Trying your best is all that matters I never thought that four simple words from my mom could change my outlook on something so easily. I’ll tell you this I hate taking big tests, especially ones for math, and on the days of the test I always feel like I have a herd of butterflies in my stomach. I remember on the day of the final geometry test I tried to make my mom let me stay home from school. It was an especially warm day in Florida, and like always very humid. What made it even worse was that I had to take a math test. I studied all the night before, but I still felt scared that I wouldn’t pass so I begged her to let me stay home. When we finally got to school, I was feeling so scared that I would fail the test I tried to make it seem like I was sick. She finally asked me what was really wrong, and I told her that I was scared that if I failed the math test then she would be disappointed in me. She looked at me in the eyes, and told me a simple phrase that would stick with me forever “Just do your best”. …show more content…

The fear of failure was gone. Those words let me know that she would be as proud of me if I failed the test as if passed it. I went into the humid classroom with a new mindset, and it changed the experience of taking the test. Like I said in the beginning I hate taking math tests, but with the words from my mother, I felt as if I could pass the test. In the end I made an 80 on the test, I told my mom she told me I was worrying about nothing. With this new mindset I was able to go through finals week, and do all the tests to the best of my ability. I passed all my finals for that year, and my mom was very proud of me.
