The Trojan War happened a long time ago between two groups of people. The location of the war was in present day Hissarlik, in northwest Turkey. Many tourists go there every year, but are disappointed because there isn’t much scenery. There are forts with big walls, but the hilltop is very dusty. Many scientists and even other people dig in that area and find many things trying to rediscover the war.

The war was between the Greeks and the people of Troy. When the Trojan prince Paris abducted Helen, the wife of Menelaus of Sparta, the war began. Menelaus wanted Helen back, but the Trojans refused his request. After that, Menelaus asked his brother, Agamemnon, to lead an army against Troy. This war could have been a final act in what could be called world war zero. About 3200 year ago, the Luwians formed coalitions powerful enough to attack and destroy the Hittite Empire. A little bit after that, the Egyptian text documented an attack by people known as the Sea Peoples. This was most likely the Luwians, who were trying to gain more wealth and power. This war’s history goes way back, and researchers are still finding out more about it today.

There are myths involving the Trojan war that we don’t for sure know about. The wooden horse that the Greeks built as a disguise to get into Troy is one of them. There were too many archers to get into Troy, so they built a horse and put men inside it and made it seem like a gift from the gods. The people of Troy thought it was a gift, so they brought the horse in the city to keep it in good condition since it was from “the gods.” That night, the Greeks snuck out of the wooden horse and burnt Troy to the ground.
