Through this experience at my community learning site I have gained better understanding of the needs of the elderly society in the means of their emotional level and medical problems. This community has seen its share of transition from an individual aspect. Transitioning to a nursing home, can be an exhausting, emotionally challenging process. While most elderly individuals hope to live out their lives in their own homes, mobility issues, health problems and outside forces often make that near impossible. Moving into a nursing home can be stressful situation for both ends of the family. Especially for elderly individuals who have been independent all their lives. Nursing homes try to can make the transitioning process easier. Coming from this since individual have a hard time understanding why they are put in a nursing home. Medical issue is the main reason why some family member decided to put their love ones in places like this. They don’t have to worry if the family member is being taking care off and they know that people are put in place to make sure that they have everything that they need. The skills that I developed while at my site were communication and understanding the medical problem that these residents face. Communicating with the residents is vital in this community due to all of the allegation that go on. It is necessary that when caring for these individuals that you communicate fluently and loud. When approaching one of the resident’s room it is best that knock on the door to let them know that you are entering their home. Individual should do this out of sign of respect for the resident due to the fact that this will be their last
