Introduction
Leadership is a process by which a person influences others to accomplish an objective and directs the organization in a way that makes it more cohesive and coherent (Clark, 1997). Leaders carry out this process by applying their leadership attributes, such as beliefs, values, ethics, character, knowledge, and skills. Bass' (1989 & 1990) theory of leadership states that there are three basic ways to explain how people become leaders. These theories are; some personality traits may lead people naturally into leadership roles. This is the Trait Theory; a crisis or important event may cause a person to rise to the occasion, which brings out extraordinary leadership qualities in an ordinary person. This is the Great Events Theory; people can choose to become leaders. People can learn leadership skills. The basis of good leadership is honorable character and selfless service to the organization. This is the Transformational Leadership Theory. It is the most widely accepted theory today and the premise on which this assignment is based.
The purpose of this paper is to profile the most important leadership role model in my lifesomeone I have known and have observed for years. Dave Nastase, The President of Federal Enterprise Solutions (FES), Northrop Grumman Information Technology, from my organization has been selected for this assignment. Transformational Leader Profile
One afternoon after lunch I was sitting in my cubicle pondering over some issues concerning our project. Surprisingly enough, I received an email that read, thank you all again for all of your outstanding contributions, signed Dave Nastase, your FES President. Right away, I became seriously relieved and jumped with amazement and shouted, "What a leader!" Dave Nastase has been with Northrop Grumman for over fifteen years and just few months ago, he was promoted to the IT Federal Enterprise Solutions (FES) President. Many employees thought some executive members who have been with the organization longer than Dave, should have been selected for the position, but to everyone's amazement, Dave was selected, and why? Well, let's find out.
Personally, I have worked with Dave Nastase for four years, and his leadership style is what Weiskittel (1999) refers to as transformational which talks about his involvement in coordinating and integrating activities in the organization.

Leadership at times can be a complex topic to delve into and may appear to be a simple and graspable concept for a certain few. Leadership skills are not simply acquired through position, seniority, pay scale, or the amount of titles an individual holds but is a characteristic acquired or is an innate trait for the fortunate few who possess it. Leadership can be misconstrued with management; a manager “manages” the daily operations of a company’s work while a leader envisions, influences, and empowers the individuals around them.
The Leadership Challenge by Kouzes and Posner (2007) is the result of twenty years of research on the factors that influence and create great leadership. Through studies and stories from leaders with various backgrounds throughout the world, the practices and characteristics that create great leadership are delineated. Leadership is viewed not as a group of inherent characteristics, but as learned behavior that anyone can achieve. The goal of Kouzes and Posner’s book is to inspire and educate leaders through transformational leadership. As such, leadership is about mobilizing others to become and do extraordinary things.

The leadership styles present in the company is very important factor in order for the change to be successful. Chris Peterson exhibits the transformational leadership quality to tackle her new project. She is able to empower members on her cross functional team to collaborate and create a new product to launch to current and perspective clients. This type of leadership is effective as the group members were able to tackle challenging expectations considering the work environment and lack of support from other departments. DSS’s departments follow the team leadership structure. Each department vision is to work on their sole projects only. The department is committed to its work which tends to hinder other projects because of the lack of free flowing communication. The lack of communication between the teams shows poor leadership quality. The chief operating officer is ultimately the source of the lack of communication and direction. DSS Chief Operating Officer Meg Cooke has a laissez-faire leadership style. She gave Peterson authority to lead a project but provided no guidance or direction. As employees, we often have our own ideal of a good leader, which may be influenced by experiences and perception of workplace norms. Transformational leadership is one of the most popular leadership styles. Leadership is trait that is extremely important in any society. Leadership is known as the way people attempting to make a difference in a situation. However, I believe that it is better said to be a way of influencing others actions. Leadership is usually connected to a great leader that affected his or her followers in a dynamic way. Throughout the semester for my leadership class, I have expanded the knowledge in numerous ways. I now have fully understanding of the purpose and process of leadership to a society. Being a leader one must maintain an image of being the role model. I believe that this is leader should be who is someone who has the ability to influence, encourage, listen, and nurture. They are able to inspire, stimulate, persuade, shape, and have an effect on others.
