I am Trang Vu, a student with Business Administration/Accounting major at Los Angeles Southwest College and West Los Angeles College. I have attending at Los Angeles Community College District (LACCD) at two campuses above since the spring semester 2014. I feel I am a lucky student because I already knew which my major I would go for before attending colleges. I decided to choose Accounting as my major I realized that I am attracted and amazed by numbers, graphs and stories covered behind them. Since I was a high school student, Mathematics and Physics always had special appeal to me than other subjects. I enjoyed lectures and played with the numbers, I got excited when I was able to find solutions for difficult Math problems and graph the movements of neutrons. I even went on YouTube …show more content…
That summer, I was just 17 years old. I brought my laptop to the store, and made her a report on how much sales we had reached daily, weekly, and monthly. I also create charts describing and comparing between stores and using Excel application. My auntie was surprised. She had a small talk with my mother about how I helped her and what I did and that I should look into accounting field or some profession relating to data and numbers. My interest in Accounting was discovered like that. Have been attending LACCD for two year, I believe I am on a right path to fulfill my passion. I am planning to transfer to a 4 years university to develop my interest and make it my long-term career goals. Be well-prepared with strong academic background at LACCD, I strongly believe that I can land on any university of my choice. I spent many days with my close friends visiting a number of local universities such as UCLA, Cal State Long Beach, Cal State Fullerton, UC Berkeley…on a road trip with my sister to San Francisco and its neighborhood area; I took my chance to discover Stanford
Her face was priceless; Her happiness was my source of happiness at the moment. I came home to my parents in the living room and decided to approach them with my decision, as I did to tell them I would like to apply to University of South Carolina - Upstate as well; they were just as happy as Kaylee. I have a very close-knit family and they were exited I would consider a school only 30 miles away from home. My mother said in Arabic “Just think, you can still come home to a good meal whenever you desire”. I know I would be homesick if I was too far away. As the youngest of 3 sons and the last one at home, my parents depend on me to help around the house and with some communication or translation as needed. My parents are Egyptian and I have always been there when they needed me. Also, George and Androu (2 older brothers) graduated from University of South Carolina – Columbia so I knew my parents would approve and support the decision of mine, just to gradually see me end up like my brothers as George is now a pharmacist, and Androu a computer engineer in California, both seemed to make it out
After I graduated from Ponce High School, I immediately attended college at the University of Puerto Rico-Ponce where I completed an associate degree in Business Administration. Then, I started reflecting on my life and my future. I felt like I was not doing enough to get ahead and improve my chances for a better future. I wanted to travel and learn English to become open-minded and become more competitive. I decided to leave the island and went to the mainland (US) where I attended to Kansas State University, earning a Bachelor degree in accounting. Right after I graduated, I moved to New Jersey and work there for a year as an accountant. I realized that accounting was not for me. I moved back to Puerto Rico, however, I ended up getting another accounting job. And with that, I re-confirmed that accounting was not for me. I found the lack of enthusiasm in being confined in front of a computer and desk doing reports all day with minimum interaction with people. To cut the story short, in 1996, I decided to join the active duty Army in 1996, a transition that became easy for me because I was already a part of the Army National Guard. The Army has been a great experience. When it comes to diversity, I cannot think of another institution like the US Armed Forces and its components (Army, Air force, and Navy/Marines). Besides having the opportunity
My lifetime goal is helping others and I plan to use my career to fulfill it. The classes I’m taking right now and the ones I’m planning to take senior year are classes I believe will influence my decision in my college major/career as well as counting toward my GPA. This will help me get into schools who have medical programs that I’m considering. Also, taking AP classes can help me save money since I can earn college credit. I’m taking all AP classes, and the electives I’m taking have been classes that have helped me consider being in the medical field. I’ve found that over the years, science and math are what I’m doing better in versus history and english. I believe by being in the medical field, I can help others in the best way I can.
When I began high school, I decided to focus on my academics and athletics because I felt those were the most important to my future. I chose my classes carefully so that I would not only be challenged with rigorous classes, but also learn the value of working hard individually and as a team. As I’ve matured over the last few years I realized that I’m able to participate in a wider range of activities and still excel in my academics and athletics. I intend to continue to balance activities such as these while attending
I have often wondered what it would be like to experience the freedom of choosing my own class schedule. This has to be infinitely more stimulating and enjoyable. I am also aware that college will be significantly more challenging, but I have always found it easier to study for a class that interests me. I am willing to accept the fact that as long as I am in school, there will be required courses which may not engender excitement or enthusiasm; however, success should not be as difficult to achieve due to the maturity that is developing during this last year of high school. In addition, I have gained an understanding of the benefit of being well rounded. There is value in all classes taken. It helps to know that even my least favorite subject will contribute to the ultimate goal of personal and career development.
My best (and favorite) subject in school is Math. Ever since I was very little I have loved math, and worked very hard at it. When I do not fully understand topics I do extra problems to make sure that they become clear to me. I spend a lot of time working on math to make sure I understand the topics throughly. I have been in math clubs since 4th grade, and in 7th grade I represented my school at the MathCounts® competition where I won a two silver pins. I won the Virginia State Math Award in 7th grade, and this year I got an 800 in math on my SSAT. As a result of my hard work I am currently one of three students in my school to be in the highest math group, Precalculus.
... started studying again so that I could prepare for DAT. While I was studying and preparing for it, my financial situation was getting worse and worse because my business became bankrupt. At the same time, my financial situation could not be salvaged easily given that my wife could not work because of her disk surgery. Working full time and studying for the test made me exhausted. I could barely finish prerequisite courses. Besides my business suffering bankruptcy, I was also faced with personal debts that were accumulating by day. Most people though that I could not get out of the predicament but I eventually set up a plan that saw me pay off my personal debts and complete my studies. Now I want to pursue a promising career; one that will offer me a wide range of job opportunities and help me to serve mankind better. I consider Pharmacy my best career choice.
My mother loves telling the story of my response when my parents asked me what I wanted for my
As the end of my senior year in high school approached, I had to make an important decision. What school was I going to spend the next few years of my life at? When the financial aid packages arrived, I was torn between two colleges. After sitting down with my mother and discussing the advantages and disadvantages of both schools, I came to my final decision. It seemed like a year ago I was imagining what college life would be like and suddenly before my eyes, I would be a college student in a matter of four months.
In the twenty years I have been in school total, math courses have always found my weak spot. I remember the anxiety I felt as a child and teenager preparing for math tests. No matter how many hours I spent on homework and studying, I never felt prepared. Some people can grasp statistics naturally; however, I do not gravitate towards any mathematical data. Math is like a foreign language to me. When choosing to continue my education to obtain my Master’s Degree, I originally began looking for online colleges that did not require Statistics as a pre-requisition. The more I searched, the more compelled to Walden University I became. When talking with an enrollment advisor, I had to swallow my pride and fears and grasp taking Statistics because my
I enjoy the challenge of studying Mathematics as I am able to apply mathematical skills to solving real life problems. An example of this is using trigonometric identities to model scenarios that allow informed predictions to be made. Studying business has all...
I have an edge in being analytical and mathematical. These are areas where I feel that I need to focus on more because I have good potential for both. I’m currently a Finance major at Carlson School of Management, and it’s very important that somebody has great math and analytical skills. I did well in my math classes in high school, never falling below an A on any of them. Although I feel that I possess some skill with analyzing tasks, I feel that I desire to further develop in that area.
My first goal is to continue my education by earning a Master’s degree in Accounting right after completing my bachelor’s degree. The MSU’s Accounting program attracts me for both its reputation and its career opportunities available for international students. It is my responsibility as a future accountant to be really familiar and proficient at the tools accountants use regularly. Achieving my master’s degree will also help me achieving my second goal of becoming a CPA by meeting the requirement of curriculum. Thus, I am professionally and academically motivated to earn a Master’s degree of Accounting at the Broad Business College.
During my time at community college, I was at a slight disadvantage compared to the majority of my classmates that had a strong background in programming and math during high school. The high school I attended did not prepare me as much for my intended major. There were not as many clubs and advance placement classes related to the STEM field. Therefore, the only preparation I had related to my major was Precalculus and a web design course. Moreover, the grading system in high school was very different than college. In college, exams are weighted more than assignments and every class requires hours of studying. This motivated me to work twice as hard to pass all the challenging math and programming classes at my junior college. One of my toughest
Finally Looking back since I returned to school maintaining a 3.8 GPA, I felt that my first semester in the accounting program has been difficult and grades have been hard to attain, but I realized that my work experience has been helpful as it allows me to return to school with organizational skills and the intense desire not to give up despite the difficulties and perform well as I continue the journey to my degree. I hope that I can get practical experience in the field though part time internships and volunteer as well.
