One of the major problems that face the Egyptian society is the traffic problem. The public transportation is now creating an obstacle for the people to use it. The people have hard times in reaching their destinations or in carrying any estimation about the time that would take them to reach their final destinations. Delay for their work and other problems would face the people. The population is increasing enormously in Egypt and thus, traffic would be an expected outcome. Public transportation is one of the main tools that the people would have to reach their jobs and their destinations. The public transportation is a low cost means of transportation if compared to the taxis and the private cars. According to the recent studies by the World Bank, Cairo is one of the cities that is witnessing traffic congestion. The accidents on the road ways are increased to reach around 4000 persons to be injured yearly in Cairo only and around 1000 person would die due to road related accidents in Cairo only. This percentage would be contributing to nearly half the pedestrians. (Khalifa, Mona; DaVanzo; Adamson. 2000) The public transportation would be numerous as public buses, metros and undergrounds metros. The traffic congestion in Cairo would be setting a financial burden on the Government, as it would cost the Government around fifty Billion Egyptian pounds per year. This amount of money is contributing to around 4 percent of the GDP growth rate of Egypt. This percent is also four times more than the costs estimated by any same size city. The loss of productivity would be one of the major effects and side effects of the traffic and the public transportation issues. The fuel consumption and the environmental pollution would be the major is...

...ication released to encourage the privatization of the public transportation and the traffic administration, however, the concept was rejected. The second solution was to increase the network of the underground but the government did not has the required budget. The ideal solution is to organize the public transportation and thus, the people would get on the bus on time and the buses would be having fixed timings. Also the buses would not be allowed to stop any where only in the specified bus stops.
The time of action is now, as traffic and the public transportation means are causing the people to have hard times to reach their work. The media should carry on awareness campaigns that would encourage the people to respect the new rules and the owners of the private cars are to be encouraged to get on the public transportation. This would decrease the traffic problem.
Traffic is caused by multiple reasons including accidents on the road, commuters traveling at the same time, bad weather, and construction activity. If we do not do something about the traffic problem now, finding workable solutions in the future will become very difficult. Some solutions are to increase the amount of roads or decrease the amount of cars, building an alternative freeway, government incentives for carpooling, or even restrictions against a certain amount of cars in one household. If even friends and family enforce these solutions, traffic may decrease. There are other options such a change in the days considered weekends. For most people, the weekend is Saturday and Sunday, but what if there was an option to change those days? If there were two certain days during the week as some peoples’ weekends instead, there would be fewer cars on the road on certain days. For example, you may get the option of having your weekend on Wednesday and Thursday instead of Saturday and Sunday. If this idea works out, this could reduce the amount of cars and traffic on the road. Another
In the city of Philadelphia the act of getting around is very hard to do, so the tactic of public transportation was created. People use public transportation to cease the vast amounts of traffic that would otherwise be created. Trains and subways running under the city made for a minuscule change of infrastructure while still getting the job done. This tactic was innovative and created a speedy technique to get in and out of the city. Public transportation was also effective because the price of a train ticket or a bus token is so much less than that of a parking spot in downtown Philadelphia. Consumers were outraged by the traffic and the prices of having their own car in the city so they took to another route, public transportation. Tactics are used by individuals (consumers) to challenge those set by higher
Based on the facts that the traffic situation is getting worse day after day and the population is growing fast, a short-term solution is the most appropriate "escape" for the problem. A solution would consist on implementing a rule by the government, restricting the numbers of cars on circulation. The restriction would by applied in car tags, even and odd numbers. The regulation should specify which days odd car tags are allowed to circulate and which days can even car tags are. The implementation of this solution would solve in a short term the large number of cars traveling on Ga. 400. It would not only make people having to find a ride in those "not allowed days" to drive but it would also reduce pollution rates, and make people transport faster to their homes or works. Like I mentioned before, dependence on somebody else's those days that drivers are not allowed to drive would be the only bad side of the solution. People would need to realize that the advantages are greater than the disadvantages.
Various aspects of traffic congestion in Toronto have been analyzed in detail. It is clear that Toronto is facing a serious problem of traffic congestion since it is the most congested city in North America. Traffic congestion in Toronto costs over $ 2 billion annually and it is caused by a variety of factors. These factors are categorized into non-recurring and recurring factors. However, the paper focused on recurring factors which contribute to the largest proportion of traffic congestion in Canada. These include increased automobile use, poor planning and lapse in implementation of laws which govern traffic systems. This leads to the use of many private cars by employees who commute to work as opposed to use of public transport systems resulting in congestion. Traffic congestion in Toronto has various adverse effects including barriers to emergency services, delays, idle time and opportunity costs as well as pollution.
Since my freshmen year of high school, I have met peers who rely on public transportation to get to school every day since the school bus system did not serve their neighborhood. They were students who were eager to come to school everyday, relying on MTS to transport them to school on time every day. Similarly, my mother relies on MTS to get her to work on time every morning and home every afternoon. Both students and adults alike have had little to no problems with the transportation system; when there were problems, MTS was able to adjust their schedules or routes to serve the community. A friend who just recently began to rely on public transportation to transport her to school has told me the interesting experiences she has encountered during the time she has used the public transportat...
Public transportation is an essential part of a city. A good public transit can encourage a city’s economic activities and can provide its citizen a convenient life. Does our Phoenix public transit work well? Does it provide sufficient service to the citizen? From my experience, the answer is no. This November I tried to attend the popular State Fair in Phoenix. However, I found that there were not any buses or metros could take me to the fair directly. It means I need 2 hours or more spend on the public transits. As the sixth most populous city nationwide (“Phoenix Quick Fact” 1), compared with Los Angeles and other big cities in America, Phoenix’s public transportation is indeed subpar. Due to Los Angeles has 154 bus lines and 30 metros (“Schedule”), New York has 316 bus lines and 28 subways(“Maps & Timetables”), while Phoenix only has 98 bus lines, and the number of metro line is only one! (“Route Schedules & Maps”) The problem is
Traffic jam is one of the most serious problems of urbanization, almost all the modern cities are facing different levels of traffic jam problems. In general, people can ease the traffic jam and not compromise the quality of life by a policy of sustainable development in two aspects including formulating a more efficient transport pattern and changing the urban construction.
Both of the two auto vehicles are brought into the human industry as the use of benefit students’ lives become more convenient traveler. In commons, the two automobile created opportunities jobs in the economic companies’ nation. Plus, several students did not noticed that both cars and public transportation have one major similar concept where two of the transit vehicle produce environmental pollution, traffic congestion, and oil consumption problems. Encounter, the public transportation and cars can cause a huge impact to the environmental which it can lead human health problems. Mostly, both of the automobile still release noxious gases into the air, and over time the built up can change the environment global warming to like an unhealthy
The development of urban transportation has not changed with the cities; cities have changed with transportation. This chapter offers an insight into the Past and the future of Urban transportation and is split up into a number of different sections. It includes a timeline of the different forms of transport innovations, starting from the earliest stages of urban transport, dating back to the omnibus (the first type of urban transportation) and working in a chronological order until eventually reaching the automobile. However, these changes in Urban transport did not happen for no reason. Different factors within society meant urban transport needed to evolve; points will be made on why society needed this evolution. In contrast I will observe the problems urban transport has caused in society as a result of its rapid progression. Taking account of both arguments for the evolution of urban transport, I will look at where it will go in the future.
We all use vehicles for transportation. People usually go to their desired destination either by driving their own cars or traveling in public transportation. Actually, it might be tough to choose that which one is the best selection for people to travel. Many people choose one of them according to their comfort while traveling and both of them have advantages and disadvantages in different conditions. Public transportation and driving own car both shares differences and similarities in many aspects, such as facility, cost, and comfort as well as traffic jam and accident occurrence.
Economies thrive on the ability of mobility. Mobility allows people to go to work, attend school and travel far and wide by using some form of transportation. It allows people and ideas to mix more freely. Over time, mobility has taken many forms, from the backs of animals, to carriages and now the automobile. Since the invention of the automobile, we have been able to decrease transportation costs, travel vast distances and decrease travel times. We are able to facilitate relationships, foster trade between places and find better jobs. However, due to the inaccurate pricing of the roads, driving cars has turned from an innovation to pure frustration. The problem is traffic congestion; the increased usage of cars has created slower speeds and longer travel times due to greater demand for the road than the road has to offer. Roughly 3.4 million Americans endure extreme commutes, in which the trip to work and back eats up at least three hours of each day (Balaker, Staley 2006). Congestion slows life down by causing massive delays, eating away at valuable time and productivity. This has become a major issue because people are stuck in traffic when they do not need to be and conditions will only continue to get worse without government intervention. Many solutions have been offered and discussed but few have been implemented. This paper will serve to outline the economic theory behind traffic congestion, alternative policy options there are for dealing with traffic congestion and ultimately what the best strategy is to solve this problem. The solution I propose is to price the highways accurately to achieve the optimum number of vehicles on the road.
The development of every nation hinges on the effectiveness of their transportation systems. Movement of goods, services and people to and from locations is made possible by transportation systems. The importance of effective transportation systems cannot be over-emphasized. Many countries face transportation problems and my country Ghana is no exception. A trip of about 30 minutes usually takes about an hour or more due to traffic jams. This is seriously impacting productivity and has become a topical issue in the country. The situation is the same in Uganda where I currently work. To this end, Transportation Engineers are needed to design roads/ highways that will stand the test of time, plan effective traffic management systems to reduce
Traffic congestion, is one of the major problems faced in the capitals and major cities in most countries. As with the increase in the growth rate, comes the growing demand for the use of transportation. This works with the response to the needs of the community.
Rail transportation is a transportation in which for movement of people and goods which from one location to another destination. Rail had been takes the important role in physical and economic development of town and cities in a country and it was developed over the world. Rail transport can be made a property value in a country increase and it must be needs improvement in transportation network expanding (Goldberg, 1970). Thus, the railway services need to be done with continuous improvement and it is important to the rail passengers of the range and quality of facilities and service on stations and trains (Gleave, S. D., 2000). The future development to a public transportation is a key to affect
...t a viable way. The government can pass and enforce stricter environmental laws, thus stopping pollution from worsening any further. Also pollution can be caused by many other ways due to bad living choices made by people, so banning ownership of vehicles is not the only way to decrease pollution. Besides, vehicles are an essential part of modern city living, so the government should find another solution to stop pollution such as implementing solar powered vehicles rather than just blindly banning the ownership of vehicles. Carbon emission from vehicles should be reduced and the government must think of a better way of solving the pollution problem rather than banning the ownership of private vehicles. Lastly, government should find a better solution to solve the pollution problem besides the banning of the ownership of private vehicles which clearly does not work.
