Different stages of learning like the stages of human life are a continuum; the earlier stages of learning are the establishment of the higher stages of learning. All students have their own needs and capabilities when they are learning. Therefore, there are different ways of teaching to fit the students’ different capabilities. There are different teaching methods and three effective teaching methods are traditional teaching methods, open discussion, and e-learning.
The traditional forms of teaching include a formal classroom setting, books, lecture, notes, homework, and attendance. The traditional teaching method is one-way; the teacher lectures to the students and the students take notes. The students all have the classroom book that they read from and the teacher gives homework for the students to do. The teacher takes attendance every day and the students’ attendance affects the overall grade for the class. The advantages of this teaching method are; it is easy to teach many students at the same time, it is systematic, and it provides a basic approach to teaching. The disadvantages of this method are; the students may not get enough individual attention and the students may not learn the information with this method. This traditional teaching method is a good way to teach many students at the same time. However, some students might not feel comfortable asking questions in this setting. For this reason, some students might get behind or stop attending classes. One of the advantages of this formal teaching method is that it is systematic. It is an easy method to follow because it is a simple format; the teacher lectures and the students listen, the teacher gives homework and the students do it, and the teacher g...

...the work is online and the students never meet each other. Also, it is easy for students to procrastinate or forget to check on the class if it is up to them to do the work on their own time (Astuquipán).
In summary, there are a variety of teaching methods being used today such as. All of these have their own advantages and disadvantages. Open discussion is the best teaching method because it makes the information more interesting for the students, it reinforces the information for them, it makes the information more understandable, and it allows the students to speak directly to other students and their teachers. E-learning and traditional teaching methods are also widely used but have their own disadvantages. It is important to know the advantages and disadvantages of all of these so students and teachers can choose the best method for their own lifestyles.
For some students, the time they have in the classroom is not enough for them to grasp the topic. While teachers usually offer a period for students to see them for extra help, some students do not have time for this. Most students have commitments outside of the classroom, such as m...
When we are in a class we expect certain level of behaviour in terms to deliver a lesson effectively. There are moments where the students purposefully or not break that level. Some of the reasons for that are: lack of interest, inappropriate challenges or learning disabilities. All of these reasons are closely linked with the level of motivation which is the main leading power of progress.
Learning styles is one of the ways schools have changed over the past couple of years in regards to diversity. The varieties of learning styles of students have become more aware to educators. There are three main learning styles; visual learning, kinesthetic learning, and auditory learning. Visual learners take up about half of student learners using textbooks, charts, course outlines, and graphs are useful instructional aides (Sadker, p. 47). Kinesthetic learning is also known as tactile learning. These students learn by hands on learning. Planning for student to have movement in class will help these learners. Our last learning style is the less of the three called auditory learning. These students learn best by hearing; they can remember the details of conversations and lectures and many have strong language skills (Sadker, p. 47). By providing a time for these students to recite the lesson themselves can support this form of learning. To be an effective teacher for all the learning style diversities means being able to be flexible and incorporate a variety of teaching techniques.
In order to be an effective teacher there needs to be an understanding that we all learn differently, this means that no single teaching strategy is effective for all students/learners all the time. This makes teaching a complex process because you need to understand and meet the requirements of all of your learners. Students learn best when they aren’t asked to simply memorise information but when they form their own understandings of what is being taught. When a student has successfully learnt a new idea they are able to then intergrate this information with their previously learnt information and make sense of it. To be an effective teacher you need to work jointly with students to asses where they are at, be able to give feedback on how the student is going and ensure that they are understanding the lesson (Killen, 2013) According to Lovat and Smith (2003) students learning must result in a change in a student’s understanding of the information being taught. In order to show understanding they must be able to share this information with others and want to learn more (Killen, 2013). In order to have a deeper understanding of what is being taught they need to be aware of the relationship that exists between what they knew previously and the new information that is being learned (Killen, 2013).. Students need to be given goals that they can achieve in order to feel a sense of mastery over their own learning, this gives students motivation that they are able to complete tasks and to keep going.
There are many advantages to online learning, it affects the way people can learn. According to “Effects of Technology on Classrooms and Students”, “students have a greater willingness to write or work on computational skills”. “They say student like the immediate results of having online learning.” Another advantage is that students can learn at their own pace. With learning at their own pace they will be able to actually know the information well. If, they are in a regular classroom setting they may no...

A student maybe inattentive or not participating in group, due to reasons such as passive listening or the way subject is being taught or explained cannot hold his attention or he has already pre-learned these content ahead and spaces out instead or he does not understand what is being taught at all.
This first part of this module, Effective classroom focus on instruction design. I have learnt various methods to plan, resource, implement, analyze and evaluate teaching. I also recognize the importance of planning in classroom teaching. Although a good planning is a necessary condition for effective teaching, it is not sufficient because students¡¯ responses and behaviours are always unpredictable. Therefore, a well-equipped teacher should have adequate knowledge in classroom management and understand different approaches in solving discipline problems. Certainly, the most important is that teachers should be able to apply appropriate approaches according to different situations. In this portfolio, I will give my personal theory of classroom discipline and teacher-pupil relationship first. Then, my reflection on the topics covered will be included. Moreover, cases from my previous learning and teaching experiences and newspaper will also be used to illustrate the application of various approaches for effective classroom management. Lastly, I will summarize the knowledge, skills and attitudes I learnt in this module and their importance for my professional development as a teacher.
Another concern that some students might have is communication. Some students might not need to have a teacher in front of them and teach the course material to them, to whereas some students might need the te...
Throughout history people as well as animals have found ways to make life, as we know it simpler. With this ease comes a greater level of technology, which requires humans to once again adapt to this ever-changing society. In result, communication, understanding and knowledge plays key importance to how our society grows. Through trial and error we have learned how education works and the best method of teaching, but we still sometimes wonder what is the absolute best way.
The biggest challenge before a teacher is the presentation of a lesson. If a lesson presentation is effective, students can reach the goals of life by acquisition of knowledge; and if the teacher is unsuccessful in his presentation, it is impossible to achieve the educational objectives. The method of teaching is directly related to the presentation of the lesson. The method of teaching depends on the nature of the subject, and the tact of the teacher. This essay is aimed at assessing teaching methods and strategies used in schools and discuss innovations that should take place to make them more effective and learner centred. Brandes and Ginnis (1996:167) acknowledge that the movement from established well-known ground to explore new teaching strategies is a tough challenge to teachers.
Going to school and getting a great education is important for a successful future in today’s world. Years ago, many children did not go to school and many young adults opted to work instead of attending college. In today’s society, gaining a high level of education is almost always mandatory for many jobs. There are many changes being done to the education system along with new items and ways of teaching in the classroom. There is a growing amount of changes in the classroom such as technology, teaching time, teaching styles, and freedom of space.
In this course I experienced an important change in my beliefs about teaching; I came to understand that there are many different theories and methods that can be tailored to suit the teacher and the needs of the student. The readings, especially those from Lyons, G., Ford, M., & Arthur-Kelly, M. (2011), Groundwater-Smith, S., Ewing, R., & Le Cornu, R. (2007), and Whitton, D., Barker, K., Nosworthy, M., Sinclair, C., Nanlohy, P. (2010), have helped me to understand this in particular. In composing my essay about teaching methods and other themes, my learning was solidified, my knowledge deepened by my research and my writing skills honed.
There are seven learning styles and techniques. The first kind of learner is a visual learner also known as a spatial, this is when someone prefers using pictures and images to understand a topic. The aural learner also known as the auditory-musical person, is a person who prefers using music or sound. There is the verbal learner or the linguistic person who prefers using words, both in speech and writing. Next is the physical learner also known as the kinesthetic learner, the preference of this learner would be using the body, hands, and sense of touch to learn. Following that would be the logical thinker or the mathematical person, who prefers using logic, reasoning and systems to learn. The social learner also known as the interpersonal learner is someone who prefers to learn in groups and with other people. This type of learning style can be great for student in the traditional classroom setting. Last there is the solitary learner or the intrapersonal person. This is someone who prefers to work alone and use self-study methods. This type of learner would best be fit in the online classroom setting. Knowing what type of learner, you are can be important in helping to improve the speed and quality of learning. It can help avoid putting a student in an awkward position. Learning styles can have a great impact on students just as much as the
Simple approaches and flexible means are the key to effective learning. Monotony and regimentalized fashion of learning is usually not recommended for the growing minds to ensure that the minds remain open and accept more stimuli from the surroundings.
