Beaten, broken, burned, bruised, tortured. Torture is defined as a “deliberate, systematic, or wanton infliction of physical and mental suffering by one or more persons acting alone or on the orders of an authority to force another person to yield information, make a confession, etc” (Torture). Throughout history, torture has been used for extreme punishment or unreasonably hateful oppression but more recently torture has been used to force the weaker willed into talking. Torture is an extraneous way to get any information or a needed confession from a suspect and it has very terrible effects on those who do the torturing and those who have suffered/are suffering through tortured. Even though some people believe that using “enhanced interrogation”, or torture, techniques to get some potentially critical information and/or confessions, the negative effects on both the tortured and torturer are far too great to risk. Having to argue over destroying, harming, and beating a person is completely ridiculous though it has been around for a long time. Torture has been evident globally for a long time. In these cases, these people were prisoner who were charged as guilty and in most circumstances they received a cruel and demented death penalty. Mid-South and Southern states in the United States had many racial issues back in the 1900s. White Southerners would attack African Americans for simply being of a different skin tone. These racial segregations lead to many violent attacks. Lynchings, public hangings, mob attacks, and fights were popular in the Southern states (Costanzo). Even though these incidents were popular... ... middle of paper ... ...sults show that in most cases, innocent people are harmed and convicted for no truthful reason at all. These people are crushed, collapsed, cauterized, contused, and overall, they are tortured. Torture is purposely harming another person for multiple reasons and it should never be used in any situation. Even though torture dates back to medieval times, it is not acceptable even if used as punishment. Whether to gain information, discover a disaster plan, stop future attacks, or anything else, using excess force and hurting another human being is awful. The effects on the victims and culprits of torture are too substantially great to ignore or to be outweighed by the ‘benefits’ of this type of aggression. Countless people have been murdered and many survivors still live with scars, horrid memories, mood disorders, bipolar tendencies, and many other health effects.
