Don’t take our word for it - see why 10 million students trust us with their essay needs.
Movies and video games are often paired together. This allows for companies to achieve the biggest cash flow that they can hope to achieve, while still providing their fans with plenty of fodder for personal and group enjoyment. Yet, when they are released, video games are often deprived of their full glory because of their dependence on the movie and its success. Video games are a widely enjoyed pastime all over the world, whether they are on consoles, the computer, or even on a mobile device. Plenty of times, individuals play for the story and immersion, but countless themed games rely on their movie or television show counterparts to do the real work. This stays a harsh reality that various gamers, casual or hardcore, must face every day …show more content…
Obvious examples are ‘Lara Croft: Tomb Raider’ or Sonic or Mario games from SEGA®. These games are obvious, as they usually have sets of ‘quests’ that the character has to complete, therefore they often don’t have a set plot other than ‘defeat the boss’. However, a modern example exists as ‘Star Wars: The Old …show more content…
Though, it’s not just because of the brand name attached to it that will make it subsequently successful. The story-telling and self-insertion will truly stick with new players. Star Wars: The Old Republic is an MMO developed by BioWare, published by EA, and distributed by LucasArts. The game was released on December 20, 2011, making it almost four years old. Although it isn’t very recent, the stories that are told and revealed through gameplay are compelling and interesting, making for a very interesting time as you attempt to level your characters, defeat enemies, and discover new companions. Obviously, with the name of the game being ‘Star Wars’, the player would reason they need to watch all six or so movies that were released prior in order to achieve a complete understanding of the game. This stands to be completely false. The game is not focused on the central plot featured in the movie, and is instead focused on your own character’s life. In fact, most of the characters from the movie are never mentioned, and those that do appear are only shown in background, non-speaking cameos. However, this does not instantly make Star Wars: The Old Republic a faultless
However the film had some flaws. The beginning failed at establishing strong characters. Most of the characters in the film had no in depth personality and instead were just objects to push the story forward. On the other hand, the ending of the film was very effective. It lead well into the beginning of A New Hope. It ends with the rebels fleeing from Vader while A New Hope begins with Darth Vader boarding the rebels ship. Also the audience got an explanation to why the Death Star was so easy to destroy. Galen Erso designed the planet killer with a flaw in the the center of the star. This allowed the rebels to easily blow it up in A New Hope. Rogue One accomplishes its main goal of developing a story outside of the normal episodes in the
My reasons for this opinion are all because of the Disney movie Star Wars: The Force Awakens. First, the two movies The Force Awakens and the New Hope have the exact same plots. In all The other movies of Star Wars each plot is very different. In The Phantom Menace, the first movie in the Star Wars saga, the plot is that
Watching a film, one can easily recognize plot, theme, characterization, etc., but not many realize what basic principle lies behind nearly every story conceived: the hero’s journey. This concept allows for a comprehensive, logical flow throughout a movie. Once the hero’s journey is thoroughly understood, anyone can pick out the elements in nearly every piece. The hero’s journey follows a simple outline. First the hero in question must have a disadvantaged childhood. Next the hero will find a mentor who wisely lays out his/her prophecy. Third the hero will go on a journey, either literal or figurative, to find him/herself. On this journey the hero will be discouraged and nearly quit his/her quest. Finally, the hero will fulfill the prophecy and find his/herself, realizing his/her full potential. This rubric may be easy to spot in epic action films, but if upon close inspection is found in a wide array of genres, some of which are fully surprising.
The famous Star Wars is a movie from the epic space film series directed by George Lucas premiered in 1977. Since there are multiple Star Wars movies in the series, this paper will be focusing on the first movie of the series called Star Wars: A New Hope.
In his article titled, “Star Wars and the Roman Empire,” Martin M. Winkler writes on Lucas’ trilogy and compares the storylines in the films to the Roman empire while placing focus on the similarities
Macbeth is a play written by William Shakespeare. It is considered one of his darkest and most powerful tragedies. Set in Scotland, the play dramatizes the corrosive psychological and political effects produced when evil is chosen as a way to fulfil the ambition for power. The play is believed to have been written between 1603 and 1607, and is most commonly dated 1606. It is a timeless classic and its themes resonate within some of the most common movies and books of modern times. Star Wars is an American epic space opera franchise centered on a film series created by George Lucas. The film series, consisting of two trilogies, has spawned an extensive media franchise called the Expanded Universe including books, television series, computer and video games, and comic books. The franchise depicts a galaxy described as far, far away in the distant past, and it commonly portrays Jedi as a representation of good, in conflict with the Sith, their evil counterpart. Their weapon of choice, the lightsaber, is commonly recognized in popular culture. It is arguably a cinematic masterpiece, holding in rank two of possibly the greatest trilogies the world has ever seen. It is a timeless epic which embodies within it an allegory for the history of the world; the rise and fall of empires and their emperors; the pursuit of power; the melting pot of cultures; the struggle for survival; the advancement of human technology; and most importantly as a whole, the history of humanity. Steven D. Graynus declared, “Ultimately, what the Star Wars films offer is….rousing storytelling suffused by themes of moral struggle and transcendence” (Decent Films Guide). The franchise's storylines contain many themes, with strong influences from philosophy and religio...
My second reason that STAR WARS is the better movie franchise is that STAR WARS has better villains. The empire is a far scarier galactic villain than any threat in Star Trek because they control such a large chunk of the STAR WARS universe. Anywhere the rebels go, they have to be on the lookout for servants of the Emperor. On a more specific level, the main villain of STAR WARS: episodes...
The recently released ‘Star Wars: The Force Unleashed’ has become the best-selling Star Wars game, or of any game previously released by LucasArts , of all time shifting over 1.5 million copies of the title. LucasArts also underestimated how popular the game would become with ‘unprecedented demand’. “This further emphasizes the undiminished popularity of Star Wars” ( Faylor C, 2008 ).
“Star Wars: The Force Awakens” is part of the very popular “Star Wars” movie series and it is the 7th and latest installment of the franchise. “The Force Awakens” was one of the most awaited movies of 2015, it broke box office records, and the movie also relates to myself in a sentimental and emotional way. The first “Star Wars” movie was launched all the way back in 1977. “Star Wars: A New Hope” was directed by the creator of the series himself, George Lucas.
There are also, several movies in the series. Also, some of the scenes in the movie are interesting like the scene where Luke crashes his ship by Yoda’s hut. Although not everyone would agree my position is, that Star Wars is an incredible movie. My first reason is, Star Wars characters are amazing. The way they do the makeup and costumes is really cool.
Quite possibly one of the most iconic openings in cinematic history is “A Long time ago in a galaxy far far away.” Of course, I am referring to Star Wars. It is such a fascinating and great movie going experience. There have been a total of seven Star Wars films, but in this essay I am going to be focusing on Star Wars: Episode 3- Revenge of the Sith. This film was written and directed by George Lucas and of the science fiction genre. Revenge of the Sith was released in theaters on May 19, 2005.
It's unfortunate that most know only of the game as what geeks did during the lunch hour back in high school or have an idea of the controversy that surrounded it in the past, vaguely recalling demonic rituals and suicide in the news. Thankfully
Video games have come a long way. They have evolved from the simple game of Pong into a complex, multi-platform, multi-genre, multi-billion dollar industry.
George Lucas wrote and directed Star Wars, he had tons of creative and production control just like Hitchcock. Furthermore, the film demonstrates his aesthetic vision through recurring themes of good verse evil, heroes fighting for good and saving the day. Lastly, the film demonstrates thematic and stylistic consistencies to create the meaningful narrative. One thing that stands out from Star Wars that illustrates George Lucas’ control over the production is the credits. He did not want the credits at the beginning of the film so the audience can focus on the narrative. In the late 1950’s the auteur theory was introduced to filmmaking which created a new way of making films. Auteur theory went against the classical narrative by focusing on realism. Auteur films had ambiguous endings, which deeper into the character’s physiological state. Even though, Star Wars demonstrates certain auteur elements, it does not go against the classical narrative. To conclude, Star Wars mixed classical Hollywood techniques with the auteur theory that lead to a different and unique way of making a
During the past 10-15 years video games and movies have been in constant competition. Whether the game plot is original or has developed from a movie, the same with movies. There have been plenty of times when videos games have been made into to movies and have been least successful than the game, also vise versa. Both movies and games have a hand in advertising through there specific medium, and many experiments has conducted to figure out which one if more influential. Depending on which medium and whats it is portraying also determines if a movie is more influential than a video game.
