Toby now had hope that they would win. It had always been a dream of Toby’s to play competitive basketball and win a championship but, he was never good enough but, right now he was on fire. He had made 2 threes and had one assist. Toby hit three after three after three until the Lions were down 5 points.
Theirs were 3 minutes left of the 3rd quarter when the Spartan coach used his second to last timeout. You could tell from the stands that he was furious. “DO YOU KNOW WHY I USED THIS TIMEOUT?” silence “Michael, do you know why?”
“Yes Coach” he said in a soft scared voice
“Why?”
“Because their waterboy has scored 7 three pointers on us”
“Correct, that’s the first thing you got right today!” he said in a sarcastic voice. Toby was very glad that Coach Patrick was not negative

Keep it up guys.” They all cheered and ran on the court.
The Spartans had the ball and their first play was a alley-oop to their tallest player, the gym erupted. The next play Toby answered with a pull-up three swish, 9 point lead. The Lions rebounded the ball passed it up court to Mason, easy lay-up. 5 minutes passed Lions were up 15 but the Spartans were fighting hard. The next few plays ended up in easy layups by the Spartans because the Lions sloppy passes, timeout. “Hey guys, we’re getting sloppy, just because we’re ahead does not mean we are going to win it is a 8 point game with 3 minutes left. Lots of time for them to catch up or for us to pull away. Got it?”
“Yes coach” the team said. They came out of the huddle on fire, Toby and Jackson were hitting threes left and right. The Spartans were falling behind, their coach was furious he called a timeout and all you could hear was him yelling at his team. Of course that made his team very discouraged and came out of the huddle and made the worst pass ever that ended up in Toby’s hands and he scored a
At the next basketball practice, Andy comes in late and the coach tells him to get ready for warm-ups. In their next game, the Hazelwood Tigers are down late in the fourth quarter. Andy makes a three pointer for the win with five seconds left in the game. After the game, the coach gives Andy Rob's position as starting center and team captain.
We may be behind on the scoreboard at the end of the game but if you play like that, we cannot be defeated.” He used pathos to hit the player’s soul by explaining himself, explaining that he doesn’t want the team to be the champion by winning, he wanted the team to be the champion by showing their hard work and their passion on the field. And also the coach is using logos by bringing up the six Sons of Marshall, the six players, the six teammates who went away by a plane
After he got done the assistant coach chimed in by saying, "I think we are ready to play, so let us go out there and get the
we made a mistake coach would stop us and make an example of whoever messed up.
Despite falling behind so quickly, San Francisco refused to quit. The Lions built up an insurmountable 24-6 fourth quarter advantage. With only a minute being played in the final quarter, rookie halfback Moegle swept into the end zone on a 10-yard run, cutting the lead margin to 24-13. Moegle’s scamper and the subsequent defensive stand seemed to have ignited the team...and the rally had begun!
When Kyrie Irving sank a layup with 2:28 to play, Cleveland climbed back to an 88-82 deficit. However, Pistons guard Reggie Jackson sank a floater on Detroit’s next possession to put Detroit back up by eight. The nail in the coffin came moments later. As James drove for a bucket following a Cavs steal, Detroit shooting guard Kentavious Caldwell-Pope ripped the ball from James’ hands. Pope raced to the other end of the floor for a spectacular layup that put Detroit back up double-digits, 92-82 with 1:26 remaining. After Pope’s stellar play, the fans in The Q began to head for the
Kentucky’s Riley jumped before the ball was even thrown in the air, so we were given possession. Right away Coach Haskins told our big man David Lattin to throw down vicious dunks in order to send a message. And my goodness, did he! First time he got the ball, he seemed to stuff his armpits inside that rim! But we knew Kentucky wasn't just going to give us this victory, they've been here before, they know what they're doing. David Lattin ended up committing a foul on the Wildcat’s first possession. He needs to be smart! We need him. The game was about dead even until our star player Bobby Joe Hill had two consecutive steals and scored on both of them. The look on Adolph Rupp’s face was priceless. Before the game, he couldn't say one positive thing about Bobby Joe Hill, even acted like he didn't know who he was! Now Bobby is making Rupp’s guards look like JV! Our defense was doing a great job of getting a hand in the shooter’s face, and on offense our ball movement was superb. There were many possessions where we passed it 10 times before shooting. Going into halftime, we were up 31-28. The second half started out as a close one. The first three minutes Kentucky rallied to within a point of us, even tying us, but never got the lead from us. We eventually kept drawing fouls and ended up shooting 27 free-throws, making all but one. We had a nine-point advantage and we were able to control the pace until the final
“I took the ball right out of his hands!” (Alexie 192). In this part of the story Junior was playing a game of basketball for his school. When it started Rowdy (who was on the other team) rushed towards the basket and almost dunked it when Junior, out of nowhere, actually jumped higher than Rowdy and took the ball right out of his
It was a sad day nothing could make me happy anymore. I had been sad from the first moment I read the paper. I kept reading the list I must have read it at least ten times. Over and over again kept seeing the same names. None of the names were mine. I had finally realized I did not make the team. I was heartbroken all I have ever wanted just slipped out of my grasp. “It’s ok you’ll make it next year”, said my friend Warren. But what he couldn’t understand was that I wanted it to happen that year. I wanted to make the basketball team that year.
The championship game loss helps the audience, especially young adults with high, aspiring dreams, to understand, that even if you do work-hard and aren’t awarded with winning your goal, this isn’t the end of your journey. It only means you have to work harder in the future, if you want to succeed at your goal. This conclusion shows young children how to lose properly and how to be grateful for what they have, since being good a winning is a much easier task. For like a quote from Colin Powell, “There are no secrets to success. It is the result of preparation, hard work, and learning from failure.” The under-class, basketball players learned from the mistakes in the title game, so they could go farther and win next year’s championship, because failure should never be your excuse to not attempt something.
Rashim told Colin and Andrew that they needed to help him stand out this game. Colin said, “Rashim, we want you to go to the NBA as much you want to. We got you and we're gonna make you the MVP of this game.” Rashim knew that his friends would always be by his side to help him. The timeout was over and it was almost half-time. LaSalle was down by 8 and knew they needed to come back to stay in this game. Wissahickon missed a shot, and Andrew got the rebound and passed it to Rashim and he made a three pointer! With 4 seconds Colin got a steal and threw a bullet pass to Rashim, and he got the shot off with one second left, and he made it! The crowd was filled with excitement and cheering for Rashim. “I couldn't have gotten those points without your guys’ help,” he shouted excitedly. But the game wasn't over, and LaSalle was still
Basketball is a big part of my life, one year ago in tournament final game two of our best players were hurt and the team was relying on me. With the time winding down on the clock we were down 8 points. Somehow I got our deficit down to two points with 30 seconds left, after an intense defensive stop 10 seconds remained on the clock; our coach called a timeout. A play was drawn up for me to take the shot. Mitchell inbounded the ball to me as I came off of a screen, I had an some-what wide open shot, I took the shot, you could hear the crowd go silent as the ball left my hand and headed towards the basketball. It felt like everything was going slow motion, the ball was getting closer and closer to the hoop and I…….missed it. The buzzer sounded
Finally, the day has come, October 25th. Our game was against the Washington Wizards at 7:30p.m. I didn’t realize the whole first quarter has passed at the score of 32-20 with Portland leading. Coach looks at Presley and I and says “ get in there.” We look at each other and nod at our chance to play. “Let’s do our best,” I say to Presley. He nods in agreement.
We didn 't play the way we wanted. Even though we struggled, we still did some things right. If we just focus on the things we did well like; boxing out, playing tough defense, and rebounding, we can work around those things and build up the things that needed to be worked on. I know that we can step up and play at a higher level. We just have to make some fundamental changes and work on some things in practice and I think that it will help in our next game. We can hold on to this loss for the night but when you come to practice tomorrow we aren 't going to hang on to this feeling we need to shake it off and start to prepare for our next game. We just need to use this game as an opportunity to see what we need to work on and build off of that. Once we improve what we need to, I think we can get to the level of success we want.”
Down two with six seconds to go fatigue had taken it tolls on the players. With little energy left; over time was not an option. I knew I had to go for the win. I walk on the floor confident of my ability that was until the whistle blew quickly turning my confident to butterflies. As I fought to get open I quickly saw the ball coming my way. As I rose for a jump shot time itself began to stay still. An in flesh everything became silent. As I watch the ball leave my hand I envisioned greatness; sure the ball was on its way in I started to celebrate that was until I hear the announcer say my teammate tip in miss shot to win us the game. Mix with emotion I celebrate with my teammate. “Ok guys, we have 24 hours until tip off. Get some rest because this is going to be the biggest game of your life. Let’s bring this championship back to Barton College. Go Bulldogs and Goodnight!” Why few players stay in the lobby to hang out I took it talk upon to work on my game and reflect on the semifinal game that just took place. At basketball games you will notice how there are all sorts of fans attending the game.
