Reading minds isn’t something that humans are normally able to do, but is it impossible? Each person has their own mind and their own lives, everyone is their own. Many people have their own points of views that don’t always add up to what others may see. Though, books have great ways of showing this; in books, when a situation is happening or a character is thinking, outsiders are often unaware of the thoughts that aren’t their own. Where She Went and To Kill a Mockingbird show many examples of this, through internal conflicts, being someone no one else knows and is different on the outside than the inside. In his paper bag is actually just Coke, not the alcohol that Dolphus is rumored to be drinking all the time. He wants to hide his true self rather than show that he likes to be with the African Americans and pretends to be drunk to have society allow him to do so. Then, in Where She Went, Adam portrays emotions that he seems to be having. In the book, Adam realizes that all he loves and all the music and passion he used to have left him. He’s now just empty and doesn’t feel the love like he used to in what he is doing (Forman, 27). The theme is shown in this evidence because Adam is feeling sad and uninspired by what he loves to do, but to the public he seems to be happy and therefore he tries not to let his true feelings show. Adam doesn’t want fame or music anymore, he’s feeling down and it has become too much for him to handle this lifestyle because he lost his happiness. Adam’s trying to tell them, but his appearance to the outside world, of his love of music is hard to get rid of and change.
