Friesen goes on to explain the development of this association between the brand and Nation through the experiences of different consumers. One customer reminisces about his childhood trips to Tim Hortons, for ‘post hockey game’ donuts and hot chocolate, and considers it a place frequented by one
When it comes to the term “Tim Hortons,” what comes to the average person’s mind might have a lot to do with which generation you grew up in. If you had grown up in the 1960’s and were a big hockey fan, you would probably match the name Tim Horton as the legendary defenseman who lead the Toronto Maple Leafs to four Stanley Cups. You even may match the name to the exotic De Tomaso Pantera, which was given to Horton as a one year signing bonus by the Buffalo Sabres, which Horton later died in during a high speed crash. If you weren’t born and raised during this era, then the name Tim Horton likely pairs up to the popular Canadian trademark of Tim Horton’s coffee and doughnuts. Although Horton did not have the chance to see his company grow into the multi-billion dollar business it is today, his name still rings through the nation and is a major part of the Canadians day.
TCBY has been a frozen treats product innovator from the day its first shop opened in Little Rock, Arkansas in 1981. The great-tasting, low-fat frozen yogurt concept received an enthusiastic response from an increasingly health-conscious public. Its trendy new product propelled the company to the forefront of franchising, and was the ‘first in a long line of ground-breaking menu items that anticipated consumer preferences and continually refreshed the TCBY concept’ (Conlin 2001, p. 133). But TCBY products are just one of the reasons that thousands of operators have concluded that a TCBY franchise is the preferred opportunity in branded frozen treats, and a dynamic partner in any co-branded concept. However, TCBY is facing a lot of problems, both internal and external, during the difficult period from the late 1980s to the early 1990s, especially the problem with its franchising system. The purpose of this report is to provide a comprehensive situation analysis of TCBY, with special reference to its franchising system, and identify several concerned issues of TCBY and its franchisees, and how these issues have negatively affected the relationship between them. Furthermore, this report also provides three recommendations in the attempt to diminish these concerned issues and better maintain the relationship between TCBY and its franchisees, and most importantly, help TCBY to increase the company’s performance and achieve their strategic goals in the next few years.
During times of war, man is exposed to the most gruesome aspects of life such as death, starvation, and imprisonment. In some cases, the aftermath is even more disastrous, causing posttraumatic stress disorder, constant guilt, as well as physical and mental scarring, but these struggles are not the only things that humans can take away from the experience. War can bring out the appreciation of the little things in life, such as the safety people take for granted, the beauty of nature, and the kindness of others. These universal consequences of fighting all contribute to what war is really capable of doing, sometimes bringing out the best and worst in people, and constantly shaping society. In The Things They Carried, Tim O’Brien goes through this himself when he writes about setting up base camp in the Vietnamese pagoda, the return to site of Kiowa’s death, the story about the old poppa-san guide, and Mitchell Sanders’ “moment of peace”. When O’Brien includes these stories, it is not to insert joy into a tragedy, but rather to create a more wholesome and authentic feel into a tough, realistic war story. O’Brien’s’ “sweet” stories are there to show the hope he had during war, and also serve as a universal example that even in the darkest tunnels, it is always possible to find rays of light.
Tyrosinase is an enzyme found in Portabella mushrooms. Tyrosinase is the enzyme most responsible for the brown color of Portabella mushrooms, as it is found in larger amounts than other pigmentations. Tyrosinase is also found in Tyrosinase vesicles in the cell wall of Portabella mushrooms. Tyrosinase plays a huge role in Portabella mushrooms in that it is active in most chemical reactions including oxidation, phosphorylation and other important mechanisms within the cell. The journal article examines the biochemical characteristics of Tyrosinase in Portabella mushrooms by specifically extracting it from the gill tissue. In order to effectively examine Tyrosinase, purification of this enzyme was to be extracted which resulted in difficulties because mushroom gill tissue is small in size while the Tyrosinase enzymes are abundant in such tissue. Adsorbents and precipitation methods were used to isolate Tyrosinase. These methods, however; were not successful as they either only provided a small amount of the enzyme or decreased the enzymatic activity desired for ob...

Cultures are becoming obsessed with pumpkin spice flavors because it’s just a good flavor. Other reasons why people are obsessed because it’s a newer thing. I really don’t know why everybody likes it I guess just because it’s good. I mean how could you pass up a pumpkin spice latte or pumpkin spice Pringles, pumpkin spice doughnuts or anything like that. People also like pumpkin spice latte because it’s caffeine. The Pumpkin Spice Latte is a coffee drink made with a mix of traditional fall spice flavors.
From positive feedback of poutine, many menus have begun to create their own original gourmet varieties. Poutine joints like Smoke’s Poutinerie, is a familiar Canadian chain available nationally (except in PEI and the territories), offer creative combinations of poutine mixes for customer’s wants. The idea of a “damsel in distress” being saved by her “knight in shining armor” is one we are well familiar with. Voltaire, a philosopher from the Age of Enlightenment (a time of questioning tradition and religion, looking to science and reason) uses this same concept to satire love, in his novel Candide. Voltaire satirizes not only love, but other subjects under question during the Age of Enlightenment, such as religion and the military. Exposing there corruption, Voltaire satirizes his main focus in Candide, Leibniz’s theory of Optimism. Leibniz was another philosopher from the Age of Enlightenment, who’s beliefs differed from Voltaire's. An example of this is Leibniz’s theory of Optimism, which states that we live in the best of all possible worlds. The military, religion and love were all elements used in Candide to satirize this theory of Optimism.
When I found out I qualified to be a candidate for the NJHS, I knew I had to take this chance. This group is made up of people who depict leadership, character, citizenship, academic success, and service and I would love to join. These characteristics wouldn't just be valuable for a candidate to have, but for everyone to have to exceed in life. If I were to be in the National Junior Honor Society, it would give me an opportunity to ameliorate my future and motivate me to do better.
Timmy was struck at the news. How could he have not made competitive? He had practiced so hard. Throughout practice and until the first game, Timmy was pretty much a downer. He wished that he had never signed up for the tournament.
“You’re Home”, the slogan found in the entrances of Tim Hortons restaurants, serves as a consumer branded business being increasingly marketed as a “cultural site for the articulation of Canadian values” (Cormack and Cosgrove 62). Its establishment in 1964, with a small shop in Hamilton, Ontario has since become a nationwide staple, with more than 3,000 stores. Tim Hortons has been seen as a Canadian icon and social institution although the process of its rise lacks analysis. The brand has been built upon “a decades-long [standing] marketing campaign that touches on the most celebrated of Canadian values” (Cormack and Cosgrove 68). The appeal of Tim Hortons encompasses far more than just the selling of coffee, doughnuts and other various goods, it fosters the building and development of community through the sponsoring of sports, predominantly hockey, at the grassroots and amateur levels, as well as supporting the professional league (Cormack and Cosgrove 80). They also capitalize on TV ads that link immigration, fami...
