The significant opinions the audience had of Thresh were affected by the falsified media. Thresh was perceived differently because of the way his personality traits were shown on a screen. Extremely falsified media was beneficial to Thresh throughout the games: where he managed to disprove these results. Thresh’s qualities that were displayed on camera overall falsified his real personality and abilities.
Although Thresh had the benefits of being large and strong, his silence portrayed on camera made him less intimidating and unknown. All through the interviews, Thresh expresses his silent attitude and nature. Thresh barely speaks or acknowledges Caesar, and he attempts making a conversation while he’s getting interviewed. He does not attempt to be witty or clever during his interview with Caesar, saying little to nothing throughout his interview. Katniss describes his unfriendly nature as “sullen and hostile”(126), stating that he’s inhospitable and doesn’t seem to care: causing the audience to be uninterested in him, losing many sponsors. Although Katniss describes Thresh as sullen and hostile she realizes his true thoughts when her life was on the edge. Katniss along with: Thresh, Foxface, Cato, and Clove, went to a feast where Clove attacked her, and Thresh was the reason for her survival. He stated, “just this one time, I let you go”(288). To allow Katniss another shot at life, he let her go unharmed. As well as showing kindness towards Katniss, he expresses his kindness to Rue: the girl tribute from his district. He saved Katniss because of her and how Katniss treated her. When he spoke to Katniss he referred to Rue as one of the reasons he was letting her go, “For the little girl”(288). To let Katniss go because of her kindness towards Rue showed his friendliness directed at her.
