Dev Patel 9.1.15 The Hunger Games: Katniss Katniss Everdeen volunteers to take part in the annual Hunger Games, a game where kids from each district fight to the death. She is partnered with a guy named Peeta from the same district. They go to training, and the Hunger Games begin. Finally, after many hardships and challenges, Katniss and Peeta win the Hunger Games Katniss is from District 12 and she is the main caretaker of her family. Every day she would hunt for her family and would make sure that her family is happy. But, when Prim gets selected to take part in the Hunger Games, Katniss volunteers instead of her. She is determined because she has a determination of winning the Hunger Games and protecting her family. She wants to win the Hunger Games only for her family. This demonstrates another characteristic of Katniss, caring. She is the main caretaker of her family and will do anything to support them. In addition, she loves her sister, Prim. Katniss volunteered for tribute instead of Prim. Katniss would risk her life in order to save her sister, Prim . Katniss is also selfless. She values her family’s life before her life. One time Katniss showed selflessness was when she helped and cared for Rue, a person in the Hunger Games. She cared for Rue more than herself. Another time Katniss illustrated selflessness was when she helped Peeta. Once, she risked her life to find and save Peeta. As you can see, Katniss illustrated selflessness in multiple situations. Another characteristic of Katniss is that she is very brave. She showed her bravery by volunteering as tribute and standing up for her sister. She knows that volunteering as tribute means death or survival, but she toke the risk. Another reason is that during the games she faced many hardships and difficulties like the forest fire, but she reacted to those challenges bravely. As you can see, Katniss has portrayed these traits throughout the book and is a determined, selfless, brave and caring person.
