Katniss and Theseus find themselves in similar situations that there are many literature parallels throughout both of their stories. Volunteering as a tribute for a cruel game like situation and come out as a victorious “hero”, both have to play along as if they love someone they don’t, and have people help them along the way. The only way to know how strong you are is not always a physical strength but mental or emotional strength also.
Katniss volunteering for the hunger games to take her sister prim's place because prim is just a child in katniss’s eyes. The hunger game arena could Be identified with a maze. Peeta the other tribute for District 12 had fallen in love with Katniss before the reaping. Because of her uniqueness the crowd
The book The Hunger Games is full of critical scenes. A critical scene is a type of scene that is necessary for the book to have a story. One very important critical scene is when Prim was chosen at the reaping. When she was chosen Katniss decided to take her place as a tribute. Why did Katniss take her place? What could have happened if she didn't take her place?
Vogler states that “ The hero emerges from the special world, transformed by his/her experience (Vogler).” Katniss almost kills herself eating the berries. This part of the story is very tense and dramatic. “I spread out my fingers, and the dark berries glisten in the sun. I give Peeta’s hand one last squeeze as a signal, as a goodbye, and we begin counting. “One.” Maybe I’m wrong. “Two.” Maybe they don’t care if we both die. “Three!” It’s too late to change my mind. I lift my hand to my mouth, taking one last look at the world. The berries have just passed my lips when the trumpets begin to blare (Collins 1987).” The scene with the dogs and Cato could also be included in this category because it changes the relationship between the characters. Katniss fought for her and Peeta’s life against the dogs. And Cato could’ve killed Peeta if Katniss didn’t shoot Cato’s hand with an arrow. Katniss and Peeta then find out that the gamemaster changed the rules, so there could only be one victor. Katniss suggested that they both eat the berries and give the capitol no victors. They put the berries in their mouths and the game master instantly ended the games making them both victors. Katniss and Peeta then have to fake that they ate the berries because they couldn’t live without each other. Eventually Katniss becomes pretty fond of
You would think Katniss wouldn’t dream of teaming up with a child, but she has. Rue is so similar yet so different from Katniss’s younger sister Prim which is partly the reason why they have teamed up. They surprisingly make an impressive duo and they work so well they’ve become partners in crime. The song presented is lighthearted and connects to the scene very well because at each other’s side they feel safe and secure. They both know the situation they’re in is life or death, but that doesn’t stop them from doing as much as they can to hurt the Career tributes of 1, 2, and 4. The piece also tells how both people in the song care for each other and treasure the bond they have made, much like Katniss and
Imagine killing people in an arena for money, food, and glory. This is what Katniss Everdeen has to do in the book The Hunger Games written by Suzanne Collins. Courage is basically showing your strength when you are faced with tough decisions or fear. Katniss shows how courageous she is while battling in the arena and out of the arena with her family and friends. Katniss has to go into an arena with twenty-four other members, two from each district. There are a total of twelve districts and she is in the twelfth district. The point of the games is to show the the capital is the boss of them and whatever they say goes. They battle in an arena till there is one victor remaining. Katniss shows many acts of courage.
Katniss volunteered because her sister’s name was randomly chosen on the day of the reaping, the day each year when one known as a tribute is chosen for the Hunger Games. Prim was the minimum age of 12 when she was picked. The author, Suzanna Collins, states “… in District 12 … the word tribute is pretty much synonymous in the word corpse” (Collins 22). Katniss wanted to spare her sister’s life. “Prim … is the only person in the world I’m certain I love” (Collins 10). In the end Katniss not only survives the Hunger Games, but helps her teammate, Peeta Mellark, survive as well. Katniss was motivated to survive because she wanted to get home. “The train begins moving and we’re plunged into night until we clear the tunnel and I take my first free breath since the reaping … I begin to think of home. Of Prim and my mother … I begin transforming back into myself. Katniss Everdeen” (Collins
The Hunger Games was a good movie when it came out. This movie refers to a dystopia world in which there are 12 districts and a capitol who rules with an iron fist, in which the districts must provide a tribute to fight in an annual Hunger Game as a punishment for a past rebellion. Katniss Everdeen is a hunter from the 12th district, which Gale, her friend gives her tips on hunting. One day her sister, Primrose Everdeen, is chosen for the Hunger Games, and in order to save her, she volunteers instead to serve in the Games along with Peeta Mellark. During a TV interview, Peeta confesses her love for Katniss Everdeen, which causes the enragement of the latter; however, she later forgives him as he explains to her that it was only to gain sponsors. During the Hunger Games, she did not receive a lot of supplies except some medicine to cure a wound, but Districts 1 and 2 almost won the Game due to their training, and amount of supplies which Katniss destroys but cannot recover any of them. The Hunger Games was one of the best movies I ever watched because it has a little bit of everything and it captures the real-life survival game that we live on a daily basis.
There are many qualities within certain characters that help them in their quests. Though the characters may vary, the journey and the characteristics, in the end, are similar. Katniss and Odysseus both experienced the epic hero cycle and display similar characteristics. In the Hunger Games, Katniss Everdeen was a girl whose purpose was to find a way to support her mother and younger sister. That is until she took the place of her sister as a tribute in the Hunger Games, an annual game held by the ruling Capitol as punishment for previous rebellions. The only way out of the games was to kill. In Homer?s The Odyssey, Odysseus was a war hero who was trying
Katniss's mother who stopped caring for Prim and Katniss after the death of her husband in a coal mine explosion. This led to Katniss becoming the family's main provider. Over the past few years, there has been various books, films, and even songs about influential, heroic, women throughout the world. Some of the most recent heroic female figures include the fictional character “Hermione Granger” from the novel Harry Potter by J. K Rowling. Another strong female figure includes “Katniss Everdeen” from the novel The Hunger Games by Suzzane Collins. The two heroic women certainly share their differences. Hermoine was described as a bookworm who could be a tad bossy at times. Katniss was athletically inclined, however, lacked certain communication skills with people. Although Hermoine and Katniss have their distinct differences, they both become heroic female figures who show what the true meaning of bravery is.
The movie The Hunger Games, originally based on a book by Suzanne Collins, is about a place called Panem, which is ruled by the Capitol and has 12 districts within it. These 12 districts are separated founded on their economic statuses, meaning the higher the district, the more impoverished the residents are. There are 2 tributes that are chosen to participate, forcibly, in The Hunger Games each year. Each competitor is instructed to eliminate one another in order to survive and come out on top. There is only one tribute allowed to come out of the arena alive. Katniss lives in District 12, which is the most impoverished district of them all, and she volunteers as tribute in “the Reaping” when her sister is chosen to participate. She and the other tribute from her district, Peeta, make it into the arena with the hopes that one of them comes out the winner and above all else, alive (Ross, 2012). I will refrain from going any further just in case you have not read the book or have not seen the movie. In terms of soci...
RRRRRRRRRIP! The needle enters the newborn’s head, and it is released into Elsewhere. Meanwhile, Katniss has been hit by a knife, and bleeds out into unconsciousness. These two scenarios share one common thing; the government chose these. Lois Lowry’s The Giver and Suzanne Collins The Hunger Games are very similar and very different. Their main characters: Jonas and Katniss, respectively, also share some similarities and differences. The characters are similar through their families, rebellion, and they both live in a dystopia. They are different through the age and birthdays, the hardships, and the fact that Katniss’ family is actually her own.
Katniss Everdeen is one of the best heroes in modern mythology. “Katniss Everdeen. She is the hero we need.” (Kim, Daniel J). Katniss isn’t like other heroes in modern mythology. Heroes today are characterized by their aggression and dominance but not Katniss. Katniss is strong when she has to be, but deep inside she is truly scared. Joseph Cambell’s 17 stages monomyth is able to map out a hero’s journey and express the steps taken to become a hero. Katniss is a highly qualified hero and accomplishes several stages in becoming the true hero she is. She is loyal, but unsure of whether it is egocentric or selflessness. All heroes have self doubts during their journeys. Katniss is a hero because of her ability to love. She incorporates love while trying to fight for her life and the lives of others back home during her time in the arena. Suzanne Collins expresses that love is an important part of life: “Love *now*. While you can.”. The way Katniss is able to feel compassion and for her to have hope is what truly makes her a hero.
I think that I am kind of similar to Katniss and Prometheus because they think of the life ahead of them and what worries they need to be worried about than to be able to look behind them and be afraid. Katniss and Prometheus actually have a lot in common. Prometheus and Katniss both look of what is ahead of them to be prepared for it. Prometheus is very busy providing things much like Katniss who provides food for her family by hunting. Katniss and Prometheus both see suffering animals that are struggling to survive so they take them into their own hands.
Similarities that exist between Katniss and Prometheus is that they are both brave, smart, intelligent, have good thinking way, and they both want to help people. Why i think that they are both like all of these things is by the way they act. Why I think they are both brave is because they aren't scared to stand up for what they believe in. They are fearless.
The first angle of desire to be observed will be the desire to live. Both Katniss and Peeta thought they did not have a chance when going into the hunger games. They were both from district 12 which was the one with the one that was the most in poverty. The people from other districts were actually trained for this prior to the selecting of the participants, especially those who are from the capitol. There first encounter with there with their mentor Haymitch is not pleasant, he is drunk and gives of the impression that they have no chance to make it in these games. Haymitch becomes sick and Peeta offers to take care of him, Katniss tries to help but Peeta insist that he has control of the situation and that she should go rest. At the moment Katniss earns some more respect for Peeta and is quite intrigued by him. Soon after the hunger games began Katniss and Peeta go their separate ways trying to survive. Peeta joins the group of some of the players from the higher district while Katniss is usuall...
