The world is filled with many different religions. Religion is something that is important to many cultures and is spread to people across the globe. The world’s most dominant and well known religions include Christianity, Islam, and Judaism. Though these religions are very different, Christianity, Islam, and Judaism share some important religious themes. These religious themes include: Monotheism, Sacred text, and Place of worship.
Monotheism is define as “the belief in the existence of one god or, stated in other terms, that God is one” (monotheism para. 4). Followers of Christianity, Islam, and Judaism all believe that there is only one true living God and that there is no god over their God. All three religions believe that if one believes in god than he will have an eternal life in heaven: “…human beings possess immortal souls and that they can live eternally in heaven if they surrender to [God] and accept him as the one and only God” (Sayre 135).
Another common religious theme that Christianity, Islam, and Judaism share is that they each have a sacred text. For each religion the sacred text provides instruction on how to live one’s life in the eyes of God. These text also answer the questions we all ask: who created us, and what happens to us when we die. The sacred text for Christianity is the bible. The Christian bible derived from the Hebrew bible, which is the sacred text for Judaism. The only difference between the Christian bible and the Hebrew bible is the New Testament. The New Testament include narrations of Jesus Christ as the messiah. Also the New Testament talks about the second coming of Jesus, known as the rapture. The Hebrew bible does not include the New Testament because the Jewish faith does not believe that Jesus was the son of God. Each of the three religions have a place where their followers come and congregate. All three religions also have a holy day set aside for worship. Christian’s place of worship is a church. Christians worship on Sundays and sermons are led by bishops, preachers, or a minister. “After the Crucifixion and Resurrection of Jesus Christ, his followers went forth according to his mandate to preach the Gospel and developed facilities for those who were converted… the Christians established their own communities, modeled on the Jewish synagogue” (Church para. 2). The Islamic place of worship is called a mosque. Muslims worship at the end of the week on Fridays. “Small mosques are usually supervised by the imam (one who administers the prayer service) himself, although sometimes also a muezzin is appointed. In larger mosques, where Friday prayers are offered, a khaṭīb (one who gives the khuṭbah, or sermon) is appointed for Friday service” (Islam para.43). As for Judaism, their place of worship is called a synagogue. The Jewish worship on Saturdays and worship services are conducted by the rabbi.
In conclusion, after researching Christianity, Islam and Judaism I have concluded that Islam is more similar to Judaism rather than Christianity. I make this statement for the following reasons: unlike Christianity, Judaism and Islam do not believe in the trinity. Both Islam and Judaism
