There has been a clash between secular thought and religion since its formation of societies in the classical age. Both have made an equal effect on the culture of each empire by influencing people to change their belief on the world. Major religions have made interactions, which affected some of their ideas for what they have become now. The major religions during the classical age are Christianity, Judaism, Buddhism, Islam, Hinduism, Jainism, Daoism, and Zoroastrianism. These religions also have similarities and differences between each other in which it has involved them to what they've become. The major empires that have affected are Persia, India, China, Greece, and Rome. These empires' culture has influenced by religion to the extent where it has changed their lifestyle. Although secular thought has made a huge impact on the world, world religion has affected history since its reemergence of empires by exchanging culture of their ideas during the classical age.
The major religions do have similarities among each other even though they taught people different concepts and direct people to different views of ideas. One similarity that each religion has in common is that they have a Supreme Being(s) they worship to and look up to when they are in need. But not all religions worship one Supreme Being, some actually worship many. The religions that are monotheistic are Christianity, Judaism, Islam, and Hinduism. Although these religions worship only one Supreme Being, they do not worship the same one. Christianity worships God, who's the creator of heaven and earth. He is also known to have ultimate knowledge and power that no one else has. God let people live their way of life, but to go to heaven they need to have faith in h...

...h it had shaped our societies now. These were not the only empires that had a drastic change. There were also the Americas that had a similar change, but because of the way education is taught in a Western point of view, the Americas are not well known as the Western side.
Overall, both secular thought and religion has made an impact in our societies to the point it has become more complex than it was before. There are many more religions and branches from the major religions in which it can be difficult to explain. There are still questions that are not yet answer by secular thought or religion. People will make their own choices on what they want to believe and stick to that. It can be difficult to figure out which is the right answer, but throughout these empires, people were able to make a living for what they had believed is true throughout their whole lives.
During the era known as the time of the classical civilizations, there were numerous noticeable changes occurring in many civilizations and city-states around the world. In India, China, and Persia in particular, one could see the influence of religion and philosophy on the political and social structure of the time.
The three monotheistic faiths, Islam, Judaism, and Christianity all essentially believe in the same God, whether His name be Allah, Yahweh, or God. They all believe in the same
Religion reinforces the beliefs of individuals within a society. Additionally, religion has played a vital role in society since it influenced the way they lived and the rituals they may or may not have practiced. Different regions of the world during ancient time held a distinct set of beliefs, each based on different or similar principals. Deriving from the polytheistic set of beliefs, monotheism came in place of many Gods, holding just one god accountable for the creation and the existence of mankind. Christianity and Buddhism share similarities and differences, but most importantly the impact that each had on the culture is what is mostly referred to.
Religion has throughout history has always been an important part of countries across the world. The world’s first religions were founded hundreds of years ago, yet they still hold an important role in today’s society. It is important to look at how religions were like in the past, especially in the Middle Ages several centuries after the major religions first formed in order to find out why religions are still relevant in the present. Without finding out the history behind religion in the past, we would never know how and why the practice of religion is still going on. Both the Byzantine Empire and the Islamic Caliphates were two of the most powerful states at the time before the 1450’s. In the Byzantium Empire most people followed a form of Christianity similar to today’s Eastern Orthodox while in the Islamic Caliphates the dominant religion was Islam.
Through all these changes America was able to emerge as their own. America now has been divided into many countries, but two continents (North and South America). The Americas have been divided culturally too (Anglo-Saxon America and Latin America). These formations of continents can be seen through the Christian cosmology. Then the “discovery” of America caused many things to change; such as the map and the transformation of the global economy. Finally the consequences of the West holding so much power created change in the rest of the world to occur.
Monotheism is the belief in the existence of one God. There are three of the most influential monotheistic religions in world history today known as Judaism, Christianity, and Islam. These three religions share both vast similarities and differences. One significant similarity they share is the belief in one deity. The belief of one God gave many people guidance and purpose in their lives. For this reason, these three religions gained many followers and believers who had faith in God. Through faithfulness in God, many were promised eternal paradise. In the following paragraphs, I will explain the similarities and differences between the rituals, holy scripts, and salvation that these religions shared.
Religion has greatly influenced western civilization. Religion is a way to express ourselves in our own way. To be able to choose who or what we believe in freely. This gives us a sense of individualism and helps our civilization to grow and develop each religion. Just about every ancient culture practiced religion in some way. They were either monotheist, polytheist, atheist, or believed in “magic”. Western civilization was impacted by religion in more ways than one. Every religion contributed in their own way. Some religions even worked together to help create a stronger, more structured civilization.
The major similarities that all three religions share are that they are all monotheistic. This all means that they believe in one god and that he is the supreme ruler of all things. They also believe that all things are created equal under one God. They all have books of what they believe to be God's word. The Jews have their book known as the Torah.
Throughout history, Western civilization has been an emerging force behind change in foreign societies. This is the concept that is discussed in the article the West Unique, Not Universal, written by Samuel Huntington. The author makes a very clear thesis sentence and uses a variety of evidence to support it. This article has a strong very convincing point. The thoughts expressed in this article can be related to a lot of events throughout history.
Every religion has its own goal, and their own path and believe to reach their goals, however there are also many similarities in believes. Although the followers of Judaism, Christianity, and Islam may see things differently, they all fundamentally hold the same values and codes. To Islam, the Prophet Mohammad’s teaching is a complete and final revelation. On the other hand, according to the bible, Christianity believes that Jesus Christ is the true lord and savior will grant you the access to heaven in the afterlife. Judaism is founded by Abraham, and it is the base from which both of the other two religions sprung. Even though the three religions differ in many areas and on many aspects, they also agree on the monotheistic, the belief in ‘One True God.’ Those religions have many similarities and a number of significant differences about God, role of women, prayer, and salvation.
...three monotheistic religions are different in terms of their teachings the word of God and the virtues that one must live their lives in; their similarities binds them together in the aspect of teaching the true nature of life and how it must be lived. Their differences separate them from one another but if one looks closely, they are not so different. The similarities and differences would also enable each believer to understand what the other religion is stating and easily understand what makes them different. Knowing all these facts would allow one to keep in mind their reservations regarding a particular issue if debating with someone who believe s in another religion. This would also help one another to co-exist and respect those who believe in another religion and not cause any strife with them just because of varying beliefs over their selected religion.
In the article The Other Confessional History: On Secular Bias in The Study of Religion by Brad S. Gregory, Gregory discusses the ongoing secularity and secularization happening in the study of religion. He discusses religion within social sciences, whether or not religious events from the past are real or not based on the metaphysical naturalism of the said event, religion in relations to epistemological skepticism, and just plain secularization. After having read the article, it has lead me to believe that secularization really is another form of confessional history. The definition of confessional history, to my understanding, is “to write history from a religiously biased point of view” in such a way that it hinders the full capacity and full understanding of the historical event’s content. In this case, the secularization of religious events fits the definition as it takes away from the historical content of the history itself. Gregory discusses secularization in his article and
Islam and Christianity seem to have very little in common; however, the two actually show strong likeness, principally in the central areas. Both Muslims and Christians are monotheists, believing in one God. While both believe in the same God, He is called by two completely different names. He is referred to as "Allah" by Muslims and "God" by Christians. Although Islam and Christianity are two different religions, their similarities in beliefs and prayers make them comparable in many aspects.
Although many religions have different sects; which, may share different ideas just like in Judaism, Christianity, and Islam. It is evident that these religions believe in one god. The teaching and traditions of each religion make each religion unique in its own way.
Religion helps establish mankind’s place in the order of the universe. As civilization began to be established through the domestication of animals, the irrigation and cultivation of agricultural crops, and life became more complex (moving from mainly a hunter/gather existence to one that could settle down and have more time to consider advanced ideas) people began to consider questions such as, where life comes from, is there a creator or creators who helped make the world, and what happens after we die. Religion helped answer some of these questions. It gave people purpose, meaning, and perspective. Religion helped establish nations in the case of religious theocratic governments. In many of the ancient civilizations, such as the Egyptians, the Mayans, and even Mesopotamia, the priests and other religious leaders played prominent roles in help shaping the laws and government of these civilizations. As his...
