Thomas is one of the main characters from The Maze Runner series written by James Dashner. The books are set in a mysterious place called the Glade. Thomas wakes up in a giant box and the only thing he can remember is his first name. He soon learns about the Glade and about the boys who lead it. It turns out, Thomas is one of the most interesting characters ever written because soon after he arrives at the Glade, he makes friends and proves to be a leader among the boys. From the very beginning of Thomas arriving at the maze, he is a leader among the group of boys. “These things are beatable.” (Dashner 344) This was Thomas’s words about machine like animals, called grievers that are programmed to control the maze. Thomas thought this even though grievers have killed about fifteen Gladers. This shows how optimistic Thomas is and how he believes the Gladers will solve the maze. Along with being a good leader, Thomas is also selfless in his actions toward others. He would do anything to help other boys and risk his life to save someone else's. “Using the method of pushing Alby’s arms and legs up two or three feet at a time, Thomas slowly made his way up the stone wall.” (Dashner 123) To save Alby …show more content…
He has one goal which is to help solve the maze, and his actions are all to benefit that cause. His personality also does not change throughout the story. Even with discoveries and big happenings in the maze, Thomas does not get cocky or let anything get in his way. Thomas’s mindset stays pretty constant through the entire story. I chose Thomas because of the huge impact he has on The Maze Runner book. Another contributor is that I thoroughly enjoyed reading this book even though I do not like to read. I found this book to be very interesting. He is interesting to me because I would want to be like him if I was in the situation he was in. I would want to be a selfless character who would do anything to help solve the
First, he looked at the drawn maps of the maze and it didn't take him long to figure out how to solve the maze and how to do it. “We need wax paper and scissors”(from chapter 15) is what Thomas said to his friends, as if he didn't want to loose this sudden train of thought . Another example of Thomas's unknown intellect was when he intentionally threw himself into a griever to go threw the changing to get some of his memorise to see if he would remember anything that would be helpful for him and his friends. This all proves that Thomas knew what he was doing and how to do
Now Thomas from The Maze Runner has to keep moving he doesn’t look back he has to keep on moving forward (or backwards, wherever the maze takes him). Besides Chuck (which was probably his best friend at the time) he left them for
Anyone as brave as Thomas does not sit back and relax to watch one of his injured friends from being trapped outside as it is about to hit night time. An injured person outside of their safe haven almost equals imminent death. Thomas instinctively ran to his injured comrade in order to save him, to only find out that he himself is also trapped outside of the Glades. "For several seconds, Thomas felt like the world had frozen in place. A thick silence followed the thunderous rumble of the Door closing, and a ...
It was cold, dark, and he had no idea what was going on all he can remember partially of his name. He had started hearing conspicuous noises. He then looked at the sides of the chained wall. He saw this terrifying creature, then jolted back as soon as he saw it. Everything had just stopped and the top of the room opened up. This guy had then jumped down and brought him up and said, “Day one greenie.” As soon as he got up he started to run. But after 5-10 seconds he then fell. The guy who brought him up told him, “As long as you’re here you’ll never run again.”
On top of Thomas being stronger and smarter, he has one more advantage in the maze. MEMORY. In the book Thomas feels as if he has been in the maze multiple times before. When he is out with Minho or Newt he has an easy time remembering where he has been and where he is going. The reason he remembers is because (spoiler alert), he constructed the maze. This gives Thomas an advantage over someone like chuck who is scared and never been in the maze. Thomas isn’t scared of the maze just curious how and why it got there, little did Thomas know that he put it
Hey you, Yeah… YOU! Would you want to live in a society where you live in a box for your entire life, and mean absolutely nothing to the just about anyone? For science right? NOPE! Obviously, Societies fall as a result of a corrupt government, Failing Social Structure, and Sickness. It is due to these factors that many great societies such as Greece, Rome, and the society depicted in the book Maze Runner fall.
In The Maze Runner, Thomas and a bunch of other guys from the glade are stuck in a giant maze with no way out. Thomas is the main character and this is how he follows the hero’s journey and becomes a hero. Reasons are Call to adventure, Ordeal, Death\, and rebirth, Crossing the threshold.
...han others and when the man holding the flag fell he ran to the rescue and was brave enough to keep moving forward. Thomas had the great honor of becoming Corporal. No one could have ever predicted that was to happen earlier in the movie because he was one of the weakest and slowest he had the hardest time in the camp because he used to live like a white educated man but in the end he proved to be a good fighter and became a Corporal. Camp helped Thomas tremendously making him the most changed and bravest man in the fifty-fourth regiment.
Chuck’s special bond with Thomas flourished and began when he became Thomas’s first friend at the Glade. Chuck is more welcoming and fond of Thomas than the other boys seeing that he reassures Thomas constantly: “Don’t
In The Maze Runner, Thomas recalls nothing of his life except for his name. He finds himself surrounded by a bunch of boys. Like all the other Gladers, Thomas appears in the Glade terrified and disoriented. However, he senses a powerful bond to the Maze. He quickly exhibits courage and confidence when he saves Alby and Minho from the Grievers after they had to spend the night in the Maze.
Through connecting with his former best friend, Victor was able travel to Phoenix to reclaim his father’s ashes and belongings. During the trip we see Thomas and Victor reminisce about their former days as friends, and although at the end they both agreed that they could not be friends, they gained a deeper understanding of each other. Even though Victor could not say it, deep down, he knew that his best friend was in fact Thomas.
Alby was the first one sent into The Glade so he is like the father to everyone who’s been around the longest and knows the most about The Glade and The Maze. When Thomas was sent from the cage that sends in the “Greenies,” (new members who are sent into the maze,) and thrown into the slammer Alby was the one to get him out and show him around. He also made the rules and assigned everyone jobs. But, he ended up dying because he was already ill and ended up sacrificing his life for the safety of the others. Therefore, everyone looked up to him because he knew what to do when to do it, and how to do it. Alby was the smartest one when it came to The Glade and The Maze. Furthermore, the evil figure with an ultimately good heart is the mean person who has the potential to be good. This person would be represented by Gally. In the begging, when Thomas came into the maze Gally grabbed him up and threw him onto the ground before he took off running.

When the doors of the elevator open up he is pulled into a humongous square surrounding, called the Glade, by a group of teenage boys. The boys in the Glade refer to themselves as the ‘Gladers’. Thomas learns that the Gladers have lived in there for two years and that the Glade is located in the center of a maze which contains a labyrinth of high walls that move during the night and deadly creatures called grievers. The Glade is led by two boys, Alby and Newt; they both maintain order in the Glade by enforcing strict rules and jobs that keep the Gladers busy. A day after Thomas’ arrival an unknown girl arrives in the Glade. This shocks everyone because the Gladers only receive a new person every month, never within the same week. This also shocks everyone because she was the only girl in a maze full of boys. The girl also gives a message that everything is going to change and that she is the last one ever. Right after her message she immediately falls into a coma. The arrival of the girl causes many things to go chaotic including the sun seizing to rise, the Gladers stop receiving supplies from the creators of the maze, and the doors of the Glade that protect the Gladers from the grievers at night stop closing. When the girl, Teresa wakes up she informs Thomas that they both knew each other in the past and that the maze was a code. Thomas and the people who run around the maze to map out the labyrinth, the runners, look through the archives of the maps and find out the code. Then the leader of the runners, Minho, figures out that the cliff they thought was just a cliff was actua...
He puts together all men from the wise, the old and the wild by stating that they all will eventually face death, and when that time comes he urges them to fight “rage” for longer life, rather than just accepting death. His portrayal differs from Dickenson’s as he presents death by using metaphors and imagery. (Napierkowski p49-60) He describes death as being “that good night” and the use of that metaphor causes death to become something unknown. Thomas suggests that death is like night time, it’s dark and unfamiliar. Thomas is presenting death as something that should be feared and something that we should fight against. His message in the poem is about how precious the gift of life is and he uses imagery with the phrases “old age should burn and rave at close of day. “(752) and “wild men who caught and sang the sun in flight.” (752) Thomas uses those poetic devices to convey anger and how powerless someone feels when being confronted by death. When Thomas reveals his father’s curse at the end of the poem you get a sense of passion that he feels for life and how he desperately wanted to send this powerful emotion to his
