Baptism
On April 12 2015, I saw an infant Baptism at St. Clement of Rome Church at the 11am mass. I went to the mass that morning with my brother Christian. The other people that attended the baptism were the baby about to be baptized, the parents, godparents, and about twenty other people that were friends or family of the parents. The baptism happened after the mass so I explained to the family why I was there and assured them I wouldn’t ruin the baptism. We sat a couple rows behind the family. The baby was wearing the traditional white garments symbolizing purity. The priest then came up to where the family was standing on the right side of the church and started the ceremony. The priest then

In the reading Peter tells us to repent, be baptized, and receive the gifts of the Holy Spirit. Even though the baby had not committed any sins, she still had original sin. Through baptism original sin is washed away and the baby was allowed to accept the grace of the Holy Spirit. The priest then asked the godparents if they would provide guidance and help the child grow in the church. The priest then said a prayer for the godparents and parents and for everyone who had gone before them. He anointed the baby’s head with oil making the sign of the cross while he did it. Through the water the sins were washed away and the baby was born to a new life in the church. Then everyone in the audience renewed their baptismal vows. The priest told everyone that the oil represented our call to be priests, prophets, and kings. The baby was then baptized at the at the baptismal fountain and sealed with the oil. The godfather took the baptismal candle and lit it from the Paschal candle representing that this child is sent from the church to be a light for the world. At the end of the ceremony we all said an …show more content…
With it being their first kid they had so much love and excitement for the child's introduction into the church. Grace’s godparents were also very excited to be a part of the child’s life. My parents have always sent me and my siblings to Catholic schools but we never really go to Mass. My own godparents are my Dad’s brother and my Mom’s sister. I used to be really close with my godmother Jean but with the combination of having her own kids and getting older we have grown apart. I’m still close with my godfather Mark but has moved to California and has a family of his own so now he is just someone I get to see four or five times a year. Lastly, I hope that when I am a parent or a godparent I can share the same excitement and love for bringing a child into the Catholic
One of the main reasons for the different denominations is their core, or fundamental, difference of belief concerning baptism. I hope to show many of the individual beliefs that are held by the different denominations, and to go back to the Bible and show what it has to say concerning baptism. The point is not to distinguish who is right and who is wrong, but to make people think about what they have been taught in their denomination, and to compare it to what the Bible has to say on the matter. If we go back to the original Greek we find several words used for baptism, baptizing, and baptized. All of these words have their root in the Greek word ƒÒƒÑƒàƒäƒç, Bapto; meaning to overwhelm, i.e. cover wholly with a fluid. The most common Greek word used to describe the act of baptism is ƒÒƒÑƒàƒä_ƒê_ƒÙƒå. This is the word used throughout scripture for baptism. If translated directly into the English language, its meaning is: "The process by which a man or object is completely immersed in water and then withdrawn from it again." (Barth 1948) This is what John the Baptist did; he baptized them by immersion in the Jordan River that came to him, after they repented of their sins (Matthew 3, Mark 1, and Luke 3). Here we have our requirements for baptism as laid out by the Bible: 1) You must repent of your sins 2) You must be immersed in water 3) You must come to be baptized (not be brought) Later in Matthew 28:18-20 Jesus adds to these requirements that the believer: 4)Be baptized by another believer 5)Be baptized in the name of the Father, Son, Holy Spirit According to the scriptures "John the son of Zechariah in the fifteenth year of the reign of Tiberiu...

Here one can see the significance of baptism extending far beyond the momentary act that is the baptismal rite. Baptism is an act of birth; it gives an immediate and direct connection with Christ’s resurrection, and it lays the foundation for fellowship, which
may not be a part of them forever. At least the child has had the

“Be assured, and doubt not, that not only men who have attained the use of their reason, but also little children who have begun to live in their mothers' womb and have there died, or who, having been just born, have passed away from the world without the sacrament of holy baptism,
In Christian communities, especially communities that practice adult baptism, the ritual is seen as more than just an act of repentance for the forgiveness of sins. The specific actions associated with baptism have evolved to represent Jesus’ death (the liminal stage) and resurrection (the reaggregation stage). By manipulating the symbolic actions in the ritual “so as to bring them into parallel with the pre-established non-symbolic system,” we are better able to understand the symbolism of the three stages of this rite of
The Bible is our textbook life, and it also places a high value on doctrine. God wants us to know important things, and gave us the bible to help, and guide us. Unfortunately, many Christians know very little about the Bible and its Christian doctrine. We believers put our interest in other things, and know a lot about things that do not matter. In Romans 6: 1 introduces us to the major doctrines of the Christian faith.
St. Anne and Joachim were Mary’s parent and gave birth to one of the two children without Original Sin. Mary was left, as a fulfillment of a divine promise left, in a Temple at Jerusalem(“Saints Anne and Joachim.”). The angel Gabriel came down to Heaven and told Mary that, “you have found grace with God,” and “you shall conceive in your womb, and you shall bear a son,”(Catholic Public
At 9:55 a man referred to as an usher greeted me and handed me a program. The room I entered into next was large and had an aisle down the center separating the seating. There were eight chairs seated side by side in each row and fifteen rows in total on each side of the aisle to provide comfortable seating for 240 people. I took a seat amongst the rest of the youth in the second row from the front of the platform. On the platform at the front of the room sat various instruments, a large podium and multiple speakers. There was a large, rectangular opening in the center wall at the back of the platform where a large tub with steps, referred to as the baptism tank, was located. Beyond the tank was a large wooden cross hanging on the wall.
There are many positive and negative arguments about infant baptism in the Catholic Church. Baptism is a Christian. Baptism is the second biggest sacrament known to Christian religions. Baptism is a Christian sacrament marked by a ritual, which admits the recipient into the Christian community. In the Roman Catholic tradition baptism is celebrated by immersing a persons head with water.
Throughout history, fathers have had the privilege of giving their daughters away in marriage, and this is symbolised today by the father walking his daughter down the aisle at her wedding. Every father longs to be able to present his daughter, having raised her in a careful, nurturing home, as a chaste and lovely virgin to the young man she loves. Paul’s desire was to present the Corinthian church ‘as a pure virgin’ to Christ. His jealous guard over the purity of the bride of Christ was to preserve their minds in the purity and simplicity of devotion to Christ.
Baptism, one of the most prevalent signs of Christian faith, has, for a long time, been a highly debated topic within the community of the body of believers. There are many different ideas surrounding the different practices and views of baptism, even the reason of why we carry out the act of baptism. Just as the idea of a marriage ceremony is to profess your love and commitment to each other, a baptism ceremony has the same effect, but instead your commitment is to Christ. This essay will take a look at this topic, the philosophical ideas surrounding it, how the Bible address it, and also the historical context in which this theological topic falls into.
In addition, the submersion in water. represents Jesus' own death and resurrection. By using the same methods of baptism, we are following Jesus' footsteps. The white garment in which the infant is clothed, or the white. clothing, which the adult would wear during Baptism, represents innocence and purity of mind. They are cleansed from sin, whether it is.
