Recommended: Meaning of hero
Hero, an interesting adjective with many different meanings and interpretations, but what really is a hero? Is heroism only rescuing the world from a villain? Can It be a small action of kindness? According to Google, heroism is "great bravery". In the novel "The Outsiders" written by S.E Hinton is about two gangs the "Greasers" and the "Socs" who despise each other and get into conflicts. Heroism is not only a matter of saving the world, but a small act of kindness, as evidenced by Johnny, Ponyboy, and Dally.
Firstly, Ponyboy is a hero because of his courage and empathy towards other characters, as he is not afraid to help others in times of distress. Ponyboy demonstrates when he saves the troubled kids in the church fire. Ponyboy informs the teacher "I'll get them, don’t worry-(pg.78)" This quote demonstrates heroism because he is concerned about the kids in the church. He cared to

"Get Out"-pg.79) This shows courage, bravery, empathy, and selflessness. One of the traits of a selfless person is the ability to put others first, as he saved Ponyboy and those kids despite the health hazards. People are what matter to Johnny. The children that needed saving are just like how Johnny needed saving from his abusive parents. He shows empathy as he knows how it feels to afraid, and doesn’t want the kids to be afraid like he was before. It is also very brave and courageous to go into a frightening, burning building just to save people. Another act of heroism Johnny demonstrates is when he stands up to Dally("Leave her alone Dally"-pg.22) This an courageous act. A hero is someone who steps up for others and Johnny steps up when Dally is harassing those girls. Dally is known to be unfriendly, mean and hostile, despite this, Johnny isn't afraid to tell Dally to stop. Johnny is a hero and is an amazing example of a hero, as anyone can be
Many heroes appear in the book The Outsiders. The characters that I think are heroes are Ponyboy, Johnny, and Dally. The definition of a hero for me is a person who is brave enough to do things to help someone even if it is a dangerous thing to do.A hero also cares for others and people can rely on them. Ponyboy was a hero because he saved peoples’ lives. Johnny died as a hero because he also saved the kids from the burning church and he was also relied on by his gang members. Dally was hero mainly because he cared for his gang and people relied on him. These three characters were heroes in this book according to my definition of a hero.
Webster’s dictionary defines a hero as any man admired for his courage, qualities or exploits, especially in war. Some people attribute the term hero mostly to war. My personal definition of a hero is someone who takes a stand against evil or an unjust cause. The term hero can be applied to anyone, it isn’t necessary to save the world from explosion to be a hero. The act of standing up for a friend can also be called a heroic act.
Johnny saw that Pony was unhappy because he missed his brothers that were back home. Johnny thought that the only reason Pony was still there in the church with him was because he was the one who wanted to run away in the first place . Johnny finally decided to turn himself in because Pony hadn’t committed a crime and Johnny would be let of easy for saving the kids . Johnny would do anything for his buddies but he has a limit and I think that limit is girls. I don’t think that Johnny would of yelled at Dally if he wouldn’t of disrespected those girls the way he did. Although he yelled at his buddy he was the hero of those two Socs that Dally was disrespecting and he got a complement from them and they let him and Pony sit with
The Outsiders by SE Hinton is a great coming-of-age novel that is about gangs, violent but also at the same time about love and brother ship. In the book, the society suddenly thinks the greasers, Pony, Johnny and Dally, are heroes. That really got me thinking. What is a hero?
There is a hero in us all. A hero is someone who risks their own life to save or do good for others. Ponyboy is a hero because he risked his life to save children from a burning church. Johnny is a hero even though he killed someone it was to save his friend’s life but he also saved children from a burning church. Dally has been arrested, picks fights, and drinks, but when it comes to the people he is close with he has his soft spots for them. All bad boys have a good side.
What is a hero? A hero can be classified as a number of things. A hero can be a person who in the opinions of others has heroic qualities or has performed a heroic act and is regarded as a model or ideal. Ervin Staub, a holocaust survivor from Hungary and as scholar on altruistic behavior, has written, "Goodness like evil often begins in small steps. Heroes evolve; they aren't born. Very often the rescuers make only a small commitment at the start, to hide someone for a day or two. But once they had taken that step, they begin to see themselves differently, as someone who helps. What starts as mere willingness becomes intense involvement." The business man, Oskar Schindler, demonstrated a powerful example
What comes to your mind when you hear the term hero? Is being a hero preventing villains from corrupting the universe? Yes, a hero is someone that stands up and tries to protect others from being harmed. In the book, The Outsiders, the Greasers proved to be the heroes of the story. It shows that no matter what your background is, you could always turn into a hero. They also showed that no matter how poor you are, you can still be a hero. The Greasers that I think showed bravery and fearlessness were: Ponyboy, Johnny, and Dally.
In the book, Johnny saves several characters from death. In the book, Ponyboy evolves into a hero which will be shown in the evidence. He is more than a friend to Johnny and saves a couple of children’s lives. Dally may not care about strangers, but he cares about his friends. Dally goes into the burning church for Ponyboy and Johnny. Ponyboy’s jacket is on fire and Dally put out, which saves him from a bad burn and possibly saves his life. Ponyboy isn’t the one saves. Dally goes into the burning and crumbling church to save Johnny, risking his life. The Outsiders proves that anybody can be a hero, no matter his/her
For instance, “It had taken more than nerve for him to say what he'd said to Dally—Johnny worshiped the ground Dallas walked on, and I had never heard Johnny talk back to anyone, much less his hero.” (pg. 24) This means that even though Johnny respected Dally because he was there for him when his parents weren’t, he took a risky step and stopped him from doing something wrong. By doing this, it shows that Johnny isn’t afraid to protect others like Cherry when the situation involved his friend Dally. More importantly, “I swear, you three are the bravest kids I’ve seen in a long time. First you and the blacked-haired kid climbing in that window, and then the tough-looking kid going back in to save him. Mrs. O'Briant and I think you were sent straight from heaven. Or are you just professional heroes or something?” (pg. 95) As shown, it is important to realize that Johnny, Ponyboy, and Dally wouldn’t only defend their gang members, but they would also endanger their own lives in order to save others. It proves that their act of heroism can be used in all situations. No matter what situation they are in, the Greasers use their heroic actions towards not only their gang members but other people
Heroism entails several things; a selfless act, courage, or the accomplishments of bold and daring expeditions. A hero can also mean courage in the face of death. Others may view this type of hero as stupid, or a martyr. Every hero has faults and these faults along with heroic deeds make the man or woman; a hero, heroine.
Ponyboy Curtis struggles growing up as a poor youth with his two brothers. One night while he is out with Johnny, Ponyboy is attacked by the Socs. Johnny ends up killing one of the Socs. They both flee from the scene before the news gets out. They are caught in a fire and Johnny and Ponyboy become heroes for saving some children. The story has a tragic end for Johnny but Ponyboy realises that he is fortunate, having family and friends that love him
