In the book: “The Way of the Knife: the CIA, a Secret Army and a War at the Ends of the Earth”, the author Mark Mazzetti mainly talking about the changes between before and after the Pentagon and World Trade Center were attacked by terroristic organization at September 11 2001. Before 9/11 attacks, CIA’s traditional main tasks are associating with the military and spies, and are committed to steal state secrets from other countries, and monitoring the important events that took place around the world. The Pentagon did not do many human spying, and for the CIA did not get the officially permission to kill and CIA need to try its best to avoid killing. After 9/11 attacks, there are many changes, the Pentagon started to do many human spying, …show more content…
Considering of the limit budget, the President Obama thought that use “knife” is much cheaper than traditional way of war. This does not need to send many armies to the war place, and does not need to station a huge force to war place for a long time, and also does not need to spend money and time to renew the Middle East. Since there was more and more wrong information collected by CIA, after CIA cannot early warning the “Arab Spring”, White House started to dislike CIA. In order to retrieve the situation, CIA allied with other private intelligence organizations. America spend seven years to station a huge force at Pakistan, CIA only killed three leaders of a terrorist organization, which was totally not enough. CIA got the intelligence that Lashkar-e-Taiba will attack Unite State, for this reason many of spies went into Pakistan as diplomatic officer. Before American troops were sent to Pakistan, CIA did not make a positive identification of a criminal before execution, they were not hundred percent sure the person was Bin Laden, but they would rather to kill a wrong people than miss the chance to kill Bin Laden. And in their opinion, people who is male and over than fifteen years old, and act around the place of military
In the aftermath of the terrorist attacks on September 11, 2001, the United States was incredibly eager to strike back at the nations thought to be responsible for this horrific tragedy. These attacks were quickly attributed to the terrorist group al-Qa’ida, led by Osama bin Laden, and to the Taliban-run government of Afghanistan, which had provided sanctuary to al-Qa’ida. In response, Washington approved a covert plan led by the Central Intelligence Agency (CIA) to directly attack those responsible in their Middle East safe haven. Initiated on 26 September 2001 with the approval of the warlords of the Afghan Northern Alliance, with whom the CIA had formed an intelligence liaison relationship, Operation Jawbreaker resulted in the fall of the Taliban regime, the killing and capture of a significant amount of al-Qa’ida leadership, and elimination of a terrorist safe haven by early December 2001. Moreover, the Taliban’s collapse denied al-Qa’ida a pseudo-nation-state partner, serving to reduce the organization’s sanctuary to areas residing along the Pakistani border. Operation Jawbreaker, one of the first post-9/11 covert operations carried out by the United States in support of its national security interests, had proved successful. Word of the operation’s swift success astounded those back in Washington; dubbed the CIA’s “finest hour,” it signified the first of many victories by deposing the Taliban’s control of Northern Afghanistan.
From the end of the draft in 1973 to the military data from 2003, the number of women in service rose from 2 percent to 12 percent. A sample of military women studied in 1991 showed 69 percent to have experienced sexual harassmen...
People perceive them as "careless and wild" and perhaps even "a sign of the life the war was being fought to preserve" (Knowles 17). They go through things that everyone experiences as a teen: jealousy, peer pressure, and competition. They don't know very much about the war or about life itself. Finny even blatantly denies the existence of the war, saying that "the fat old men who don't want [them] crowding up their jobs" have "cooked up this war fake" (Knowles 107). One of the boys in their class, Leper, dreams of enlisting in the ski troops, seeing it as a safe, clean way to get involved in the war rather than having to kill and destroy.
Throughout The Butcher’s Tale: Murder and Anti-Semitism in a German Town, the murder of Ernst Winter in Konitz is very much a reflection of the overall attitudes of many Europeans during the early 20th century. It was clear that once the anti-Semitic attitudes started to become prominent in society, they spiraled out of control and started to take over entire communities. The Jewish people were blamed for crimes they did not commit, were excluded from society, and suffered from acts of violence and hate speech. Wild stories began to be spread all over town and people started to believe everything they heard, even if there was no substance behind it. This caused lots of problems in Germany, as well as Europe in general, since many people got
Osama bin Laden was an adversary of the West for years and it was known to the whole world. Unfortunately, he took it a little further by having two planes fly into the World Trade Center, one into the Pentagon and another plane possibly for the White House. As we all know, this is the unforgettable day of September 11, 2001. Thousands of Americans were innocently murdered that day and in our own country by a terrorist organization. The United States of America would not stand for this and rapidly sought out Osama Bin Laden for what he had done to us. This is the day that caused the United States to accelerate the search and destruction efforts of bin Laden. Soon after September 11th, the United States was very involved in Afghanistan in trying to find him.

On September 11, 2001, Osama Bin Ladin executed the deadliest terrorist attack on American soil. The attack killed over 2,900 people, and since then America has changed in many ways. One example is the phobia people now have against people of Middle-Eastern decent or people that practice the Islamic religion. Since people think differently of these groups, they do not treat them with the respect they give to other people. They can be denied jobs, education, housing because of their religion and/or their Middle Eastern background. Another example on how America has changed since 9/11, is the airport security has grown largely. The new change can impact many travelers, as well it spends a lot of the American government’s money.

... Sept. 11th, 2001, terrorist attack on theWorld Trade Center and the unreliability of U.S. intelligence onWeapons of mass Destruction in Iraq have been a focus of intense scrutiny in the U.S. in 2004 particularly in the context of the 9/11 Commision , the continuing armed resistance against U.S. occupation of Iraq, and the widely perceived need for systematic review of the respective roles of the CIA, FBI and the Defense Intelligence Agency. On July 9th, 2004 the Senate report of Pre-war Intelligenceon Iraq of the Senate Intelligence Committe stated that the CIA described the danger presented by Weapons of Mass Destruction in Iraq in an unreasonable way, largely unsupported by the available intelligence. In a briefing held Sept 15th, 2001 George Tenet presented the Worldwide Attack Matrix, a "top-secret" document describing covert CIA anti-terror operations in 80 countries in Asia, the Middle East, and Africa. The actions, underway or being recommended, would range from "routine propaganda to lethal covert action in preparation for military attacks". The plans, if carried out, "would give the CIA the broadest and most lethal authority in its history".
Harry S. Truman founded the Central Intelligence Agency (CIA) September 18, 1947. The main motive for the institution of the CIA was the unexpected attack on Pearl Harbor, which happened on the morning of December 7, 1941.In 1949, the Central Intelligence Agency Act was being devolved in addition to the 1947 Act, allowing the Agency more powers. The CIA was allowed to use private fiscal and govern technique. Also, the Agency was free from various usual limitations on the expenditure of funds. CIA’s most important purpose is to gather and save, decrypt and break down foreign intelligence to help both the President and Senior US government policymakers in helping America.
United States starts fighting terrorism in Afghanistan by overthrowing Taliban (Terrorist Organization). Tried to support Pakistan and Afghanistan people by bringing their Force into their countries to end war. When Osama Bin Laden was killed, it was a big victory for the US to change everything and not weaken Al Qaeda. Al Qaeda has a mission to overthrow all American troops from the land of Muslim countries. Here I recommend the United States to leave Muslim countries in their own way and do not intervene in their foreign policies and other internal decisions, if they really want to end up in a war on terror.
Edward LaRosa Mr. McMichael U.S. History IIA 10 September 2018 The Vital Role of the CIA during the Cold War The Cold War started around 1947 after WWII and was the geopolitical, economic, and ideological struggle between the two world superpowers at the time, the USA and the USSR. The two powers were competing for superiority over the other. After WWII the U.S. adopted the strategy of “containment” to combat the threat of Soviet communism from spreading across the globe.
