Three values which a society definitely needs are the right to vote, fair punishments, and the right to speak out against the government. In Animal Farm, these values were used in the beginning of the book, when Snowball was there. The animals could vote on what to do, they could not be killed, and they could do what they want.
One important value in a society is democracy because it gives people the right to vote for what happens to them. When democracy was removed in George Orwell’s book, Animal Farm, Napoleon announced, “Animal Farm would engage in trade with neighboring farm […] if more money were needed, it would have to be made up by the sale of eggs” (63). This is unfair for the hens because in page 76 of the book, they had to give away

An example of no freedom in Animal Farm is when the Animals sang Beasts of England, “When Squealer, attended by two dogs, approached them with the air of having something important to say. He announced that, by a special decree of Comrade Napoleon, Beasts of England has been abolished” (87-88). This is an example of no freedom because if the animals try to speak up, the dogs will kill them because they are trained by Napoleon to kill all of the animals who do not follow the “laws”. If they had freedom, they could speak up or do what they want, like sing Beasts of England. They could speak up to do what they want, and not be scared of death, which could lead to peace because the animals could do what they wanted to, with no disputes and no threats. An example when the animals had freedom is when Mollie ran away, “She was between the shafts of a small dog-cart painted red and black, which was standing outside a public house. A fat red-faced man in check breeches and gaiters, who looked like a publican, was stroking her nose and feeding her with sugar” (46). This is freedom because the animals did not want to kill her, but they only ignored her. Also, this shows that the animals could go to the humans; they could do anything that does not harm them. This means that the animals had peace because when Mollie ran away, even though the animals did not like what she did, they ignored it and continued to do what they liked, and had no disputes about that. They kept on going with their lives as if Mollie did not run away, and had peace Therefore, freedom can be very important in a society because it gives people the right to stand up to the government, and lets people do what they want to, as long as it is not dangerous, or if it is harmful to a
In the beginning of the text, “all animals are equal” (Orwell 6) and are united under the common goal of freeing themselves from “the tyranny of human beings” (5). However, life on the farm progresses in a manner contradictory to this initial belief, and ultimately does not benefit the masses. Rather, it is driven exclusively by and for the privileged elite, “the cleverest of animals” (9): the pigs. Napoleon and his supporters are able to impose their authority upon the “lower animals” (92) by using language to create “the seven commandments” (15), and consequently re-creating them when they see fit. For example, it was declared in the Commandments that “no animal shall kill any other animal” (61). Yet, when the very pigs that created the law break it, it is re-written such that “no animal shall kill any other animal without cause” (61). These subtle manipulations take place consistently throughout the story, until all previous laws are eradicated and replaced with one overarching commandment: “All animals are equal, but some animals are more equal than others” (90). Here Orwell highlights the fact that by re-writing the past, those in power are able to directly control the future. By monopolizing language, they monopolize progress. Without “the words to express” (59) their opposition, the animals lack agency and are effectively silenced, forced to accept what is written “on the
Abraham Lincoln once said, “Nearly all men can stand adversity, but if you want to test a man’s character, give him power.” ("Abraham Lincoln Quote"). Lord Acton also said, “Power tends to corrupt and absolute power corrupts absolutely.” (“Lord Acton Quotes”). Both of the quotes show that power is not always a good thing, and can sometimes make good people, do bad things. Animal Farm by George Orwell is a novella about animals rebelling against humans on a farm in England. The novella has been said to be directly related to the Russian Revolution of the early 20th century. Immediately after the animals gained power, the pigs took over as the leaders of the animals. The pigs became corrupt with the power, and may have made conditions worse than they were with humans
The saying “history repeats itself” is used quite often, but how many times have you actually seen it happen? The book Animal Farm portrays the idea of history repeating itself. The character Benjamin and the pigs in the story show history repeating itself throughout the book. In addition to these characters within the book, North Korea displays history's repetition outside the book.
Can you imagine a world where there is a complete absence of government power- one in which there is no infringement on human freedom? Individuals in a dystopian society live their lives based on fear, not knowing what would happen next in the hands of their daunting government. Mutually, ‘Animal Farm and ‘V for Vendetta’ express the conflict in a society between the government who attempts to control as many aspects of their citizens’ life and a protagonist who realizes that they are being manipulated and no longer wants to live this way. Propaganda is an important tool to every government. In Animal Farm it is used by the pigs to influence and manipulate the animals’ opinions. The propaganda the pigs use limits the animals’ ability
In today’s society, unfair treatment is inevitable, and this is especially true in Animal Farm. George Orwell uses Animal Farm to describe the fascist behavior shown by Joseph Stalin after the Russian Revolution. He also uses the novel to incorporate his own beliefs about human nature, and to imply evidence that Dictatorships can happen in today’s society. Throughout the story, it becomes evident that not all animals are as equal as Napoleon says they are.
Often times in a communist society, a leader’s use of language can lead to abuse of power. In George Orwell’s Animal Farm, the farm leaders, the pigs, use unknown language, invoke scare tactics, and create specific laws, thereby enabling them to control other animals, to suit their greedy desires, and to perform actions outside their realm of power. Because of the pigs’ use of broad language, implementation of scare tactics, and creation and manipulation of laws, they are able to get away with avoiding laws and convincing other animals into believing untrue stories and lies that are beneficial to the pigs.

In George Orwell’s novel Animal Farm, the animals possess many traits that humans portray such as emotion and physical qualities and activities. The novel withholds many examples of hypocrisy among the animals. These acts of hypocrisy originate from the animals hatred for the humans, which eventually transforms them into humans in an animal form and the major downfall of Animal Farm. These acts of hypocrisy are primarily summoned by the pigs in many different fashions including the higher equality, the ban on human characteristics and activity and the basis of “four legs good, two legs bad”.
As soon as Old Major had died Napoleon took his place as the leader of
Because the animals decide that they want to run the farm by themselves, they make up a way of living called Animalism. The basic principles of Animalism are two, all animals are to be treated as equals, and no animals shall acquire any human traits or
... In the end, George Orwell’s dark brooding fairy tale Animal Farm proves to be a symbolic and understanding book. In its pages we can see the contrast between a supposedly communistic state where everyone is equal and the same, and how in the end it only leads to a total dictatorial establishment of totalitarianism, where everything is controlled by an elite group. Though Animal Farm was established with the idea of every animal being equal, in the end, the voice of the scheming pigs was the only one heard. Secondly, the book powerfully symbolizes key figures that have appeared in history.
The animals in the book “Animal Farm” hoped to achieve unity, equality. trust/truth, prosperity, better quality of life, freedom and individuality, in terms of the revolution. This was achieved at the beginning of the revolution, which made it a success, but in the end the revolution was a failure.
In Animal Farm Mollie, the ribbon loving horse, finds a way to escape the farm without being noticed to go live amongst the humans, instead of continuing the rebellion with her fellow comrades. Her desire to obtain attention from the humans outweighs the “evil” of man.
Animal Farm is about equality and standing up for your rights. There was a preeminent leader named Old Major who inspired the animals to rebel against Mr. Jones, the farm owner, who treated the animals brutally. This ended up happening and although it wasn’t planned, the animals are living happily without Jones and his men.
The government is in all aspects of everyday life. Quality of life depends on how effective a government is a truer and guiding its people. Animal Farm reflects events leading up to the Russian Revolution of 1917 and then on into the Stalinist era of the Soviet Union. In the book Animal Farm government was expressed in many different ways. This was shown through the seven Commandments and freedom, the book Animal Farm also related to modern-day government. These messages were expressed through many different characters and their behaviors which gave an insight on how it is related to Modern Day American government.
