The Ultimate Pet: A Pet Rock
A pet rock can be as comforting to me as any canine or feline. Some
would believe that a man's best friend is a dog. However, living in a confined
two bedroom apartment, I do not have the luxury or permission for a forty pound
dog to be plopping around. This is why I have found comfort in my pet rock. A
pet rock can replace many of the duties, such as a companionship, I can get
from a pet dog or cat.
When I go shopping for a pet, I look for the appropriate size and color
to meet my needs. Some people like big animals, some small. Some animals come
in black, brown, white, yellow; yet some are spotted. The same goes for my rock.
When I went "shopping" for my rock, I didn't want o...
The Niangua darter can be distinguished from other darters by the presence of two small, black spots at the base of its tail fin. Without these spots, the Niangua darter is nearly identical to many other darters. This is because the coloration displayed by the Niangua darter is quite comparable to that of other darters. However, these identifying spots are not apparent in breeding males. This can be attributed to the spawning behavior that they exhibit, clearing possible spawning areas with its tail. During this process, the scales along the bottom side of the tale, including the dots, simply wear off. They do, however, grow back and reappear at the end of the breeding season.
II. Many people would be interested in a low maintenance pet that is softer than a turtle and more affectionate than a goldfish.

The goal of the study was to determine personality characteristics of pets and to use the circumplex model to assess human-animal bonds. The results confirm that self-identified dog and cat people seek complementarity with their pets. However, results were insignificant between the interaction with ideal pet and the level of complementarity. It appears that the greatest predictor for human-animal attachment is the correspondence between the needs of the owner and the interpersonal characteristics of their pet (Woodward & Bauer, 2007).
When you look at someone’s pet you may not think it can teach you anything or do anything for you besides being there for you. However, a study in Austria, conducted by Pauleen Bennett and Jordan Schaan, discovered that pets became “instructors” for their owners in living a better life. “People felt they could derive unconditional love and forgiveness from their dogs, whereas human beings seemed more likely to disappoint one another” (Yuhas, 1). This statement reveals how negatively humans view each other. If a person rather be with an
Animals can help hospital patients meet rehabilitation goals (Fischman). In addition, pets can make the healing process more bearable. Animals can also provide quiet, yet successful support to patients and their families during the rehabilitation of an injury or illness. They can cheer up patients who are going through rough times and can be a reliable friend in a sometimes sad setting. It is remarkable the miracles that can be made when a caring and loving animal is by someone's side through the long journey. There have been times where a hospital patient was unconscious for months, but when their hand was placed on the back of a dog, they woke up, wondering what they were touching (Fischman). Also if someone who is in the hospital is feeling down or depressed, a visiting animal can help perk them up, and hopefully make their recovery easier and faster. Visiting animals can also help those who are in a nursing home to feel less lonely and less stressed. Nursing home patients with Alzheimer's have proven to be more calm when in the presence of an animal. Studies have shown that they get less agitated and comply easier with instructions when around an animal
For some, their pet is all that they have. People are never alone when at home with their pet because they are at home with family. Today, animals fill the void of loneliness that is felt by millions. When people come home after a long day, it’s their pet, or family, that brings them back. Their family will jump into their laps in excitement of seeing their loved one.

There are tons of things that can come to mind when one thinks of a dog or a cat. Many people make a choice to become a cat person or a dog lover. There are so many things to think about when choosing a pet. When it comes to owning a pet, most people often think about the amount of space, along with the energy levels the cat or dog might have, most people, also include the amount of attention the animal is going to need, then it comes down to the cost of the pet. Choose the pet carefully.
Ideally, pet supply would be equal to the demand for wanted pets. There may never be enough caring homes for all the pets as is evident by the fact that only about 25 percent of the pets in shelters are ever adopted. F...
In present day, people adopt canines for numerous reasons. The most common reported reason for acquiring a canine is for companionship, followed by promotion of exercise, proceeded by protection, and finally for breeding or showing (Jagoe & Serpell, 1996).

... of certain health problems and disorders is the basis on which animal-assisted therapy is built. Research has shown that pet ownership is beneficial to both the pet and owner. In the research, pet ownership has a relationship to cardiovascular health, a strengthened immune system, and a decrease in blood pressure and cholesterol levels (PDF 3). Studies have also shown that a constant animal companion lowers anxiety. By drawing attention outside, by having patients focus on the animals, anxiety, depression, pain, and anger can be mitigated.
