Before engaging in the sport of scuba diving, individuals must undergo a training process that ends in official certification from a qualified agency. For most recreational divers, this means completing all three stages of the Professional Association of Diving Instructors (PADI) Open Water Diver course.
The first phase of PADI Open Water Diver training provides basic knowledge development through classroom and/or online instruction. The
The irony in the need for survival by a suicidal diver in Robert Hayden’s “the diver”.
The First five weeks the student’s learn life saving, knot tying, underwater knot tying, basic first aid, and surf passages in small inflatable boats. Along with this is a 50-yard underwater swim, which must be completed and the students are often revived when they pass out. Also throughout out the whole six months of BUD/S (Basic Underwater Demolition School), the Seal Teams go through many torturous events and lessons. One of these being surf torture. This is where the entire class must wade into the surf zone to their waistline, then sit down with arms linked. Just to let you know the water in Coronado, California never gets above sixty-eight degrees during the summer and fifty-eight degrees during the winter. There the men with linked arms will sit there for hours at a time, soon the cold sucks out all of their body warmth and the whole class is shivering in unison as the waves crash over there heads.
Working with children from Year 5 to Year 12 in an aquatic setting. I am responsible for supervising and educating these children, whilst being actively engaged in the planning process. The service we provide caters for a number of diverse children as we regularly engage with students with physical and intellectual disabilities. Subsequently, our service incorporates inclusive planning in order to accommodate the needs of all students. As an extension of the planning process we also regularly engage in risk management
Robert Currie’s “The Diver”, on the surface, recounts a diver’s descent and ascent into a river as onlookers eagerly anticipate his fate. Beneath the surface, this poem is actually very spiritual. The diver’s descent into the water, and his arising from the water, can be compared to the crucifixion of Jesus. Through the masterful use of imagery and Biblical comparisons, Currie depicts the message that rebirth and hope can captivate and revitalize our spirits.
I have gone to regionals the past two years, and have been an alternate for state both years. Along with diving, I help coach the middle school dive team. I became more responsible from this because I had to help five kids learn how to do multiple types of dives without getting hurt. I babysit also, yet due to the fact I am turning sixteen this
Design elements are important for effective learning and transfer of training. Noe (2013) explains “…for learning and transfer of training to occur, training programs need to include meaningful material, clear objectives, opportunities for practice and feedback, learner interaction, and a supportive work environment”. Furthermore, Noe (2013) explains there needs to be an effective training program that maximizes learning and transfer of training for the trainee.
Scuba diving is diving with a self-contained underwater breathing apparatus, that is completely independent of surface supply. Providing the diver with the advantages of underwater mobility whilst being able to sustain life at underwater pressures. Embolism results when gasses in the lung expand during ascent and rupture lung tissue, causing air bubbles to enter the bloodstream.
Diving has gotten away from the stereotype based on the early days of diving, that it is a rough and tough sport requiring extreme endurance and strength. Today it is viewed as an activity done by both men and women and even children. While diving is promoted as a leisure sport, it is still a sport. One that takes an amount of physical activity. We start by carrying heavy tanks on our backs. We are in constant motion for the entire dive. Even breathing is a more difficult as we must overcome the additional pressure on our body as we expand our chest.

Before recreational or sport divers can take a plunge into the water, they must complete a course in scuba diving and become certified. There are many scuba diving agencies, the largest being PADI, but there are many others, including the National Association of Underwater Instructors and the National Association of Scuba Diving Schools. All agencies require that participants be proficient swimmers, in reasonably good health, and at least 12 years of age. The course usually consists of classroom work, practice in a pool or confined body of water, and dives in open water. In the course, students learn to use diving equipment, to equalize air pressure as they descend, to swim efficiently underwater, to clear the mask if water leaks in, and to ascend safely. Because divers cannot talk to each other underwater, they also learn how to communicate underwater with hand signals. Scuba diving should always be practiced with at least one other person, and partners should remain together throughout the dive. Certification courses teach divers the rules and advantages of the buddy system. Diving partners learn to double-check each other’s equipment, share a single air supply, and assist one another should a problem occur. Neutral Buoyancy is an important skill taught in certification class. Neutral Buoyancy is a state, in which the individual neither sinks nor floats. In this weightless state, a diver conserves energy and air and keeps diving equipment off the bottom where it could be damaged.
