The Story of Lot and His Daughters
As discussed in class, the Old Testament is a story of the constant struggle between the Lord and his authority, and humans and their rebellion. God brings down punishment upon Man, but saves a few righteous individuals. It is within the framework of this constant struggle that the rules of an evolving society are laid down and recorded. In the story of Lot and his daughters, we see the taboos of disobedience to the Lord, incest and poor hospitality condemned.
The pericope begins in Genesis 19, when the Lord tells Abraham that he will destroy Sodom unless he can find ten righteous men in the city. The angels of the lord come to Sodom to find its righteous men, and Abraham’s nephew, Lot, receives them. He treats them as honored guests, washing their feet and feeding them. A crowd of overly curious Sodomites harass Lot, demanding to see his guests. Lot protects his guests, even offering his two virgin daughters up in their stead.
This can be read in two ways. One sees this as an act of pandering his daughters out. This calls into question Lot’s values. His good treatment of the angels, and God’s subsequent protection of Lot, shows him to be righteous, so this must not be the case. I choose to go with the chain of thought that this is meant to be an example of the Sodomites’ lack of interest in women. They ignore the offer and try to attack Lot and his household.
Lot’s actions stress the importance of being a good host at a time when the only things that mattered were one’s family or tribe name, and one’s fair treatment of those one came in contact with. In Dante’s Inferno, in the Ninth Circle of Hell, traitors to guests are second only to traitors to benefactors as far ...

...ventually attempting to curse and rule over them. In Deuteronomy 2:8-21, we see that the Lord had the Israelites leave both tribes alone, showing a small amount of favor for Lot and his descendants. In fact, the Moabites resurface throughout the Old Testament, at times even subjugating the Israelites (Judges 3:12-29). It is possible that the Lord used the Moabites to teach the Israelites the importance of staying true to him, again echoing the constant struggle between the benefactor and his family.
This rebellion and punishment simply repeat the cycle of the power struggle between God and Mankind that the Old Testament is based on. It is a book of lessons for living a life in a time when societies were still learning how to function. Through the story of Lot, three rules of society are re-stressed. They are to obey authority, be hospitable, and avoid incest.
The idea that man's relationship with good and evil is not predestined is a central idea in this novel. The conflict between good and evil is a universal battle. Many characters in the novel, East of Eden, struggle both internally and externally with Good versus evil.
...n idea about the human psyche and the nature of evil. Throughout the novels, we have acts that were dubbed as evil. Some of these were: the acts of the rabbi’s son, the killing of Simon, and even the joy Eliezer felt at the death of his father. All of these points and the many that weren’t mentioned all shared a singular idea. It was that the ulterior motive of these acts revolved around people reacting on instinct and desire. From these, we gain the final message of the novel that was proven time and time again. This message was that evil isn’t an act that just isn’t moral. Evil is the primal, instinctual, an animalistic rage that lives in the darker part of our heart, a part of the heart that is brought to light upon the moment the chains of civilization are broken..... A moment where we fall prey to our instincts and our conscience disappears into the darkness.
within the story of Lot there are loopholes and homosexuality has been present with in
The Israelites regarded the Edomites as close relatives, even more closely related to them than the Ammonites or Moabites. Specifically, they identified the Ammonites and Moabites as descendants of Lot, Abraham’s nephew, but the Edomites as descendants of Esau, Jacob’s brother (Gen. 19:30-36; 36). Thus Edom occasionally is referred to as a “brother” to Israel (Amos 1:11-12). Edomites seem not to have been barred from worship in the Jerusalem temple with the same strictness as the Ammonites and Moabites (Deut. 23:3-8). Yet, as is often the case with personal relations, the closest relative can be a bitter enemy. According to the biblical writers, enmity between Israel and Edom began with Jacob and Esau (when the former stole the latter’s birthright)
In the article “Never Say Anything a Kid Can Say!” Steven C. Reinhart shares his struggle of finding the fundamental flaw that existed in his teaching methods. He is a great teacher, explained mathematics well, he was dedicated and caring, but his students were not learning and with low achievement results, Reinhart had to question his teaching methods. He began to challenge himself. He committed to change 10% of teaching each year and over many years he was able to change his traditional methods of instruction to more of a student-centered problem-based approach. This article promotes students to engage through the use of questioning.
In Genesis 19, we read a very interesting but sad story about Lot and the men of Sodom. Sodom was an extremely sinful city that God was about to rain His judgment. Lot was the only righteous man in Sodom but it is strange that Lot would protect his guests from sexual molestation but readily offered his two virgin daughters to be molested by the wicked men of Sodom. Even in this generation we read, hear and see similar things happening around us. A parent would under fear, pressure or even no pressure prostitute his or her child. Sometimes it is a husband prostituting his wife. Lots daughters would have been raped by the mob and would have probably resulted to their death. This kind of act destroys the family foundation, gates and releases
Polonius is similar to the Rosencrantz and Guildenstein except that instead of merely trying to procure information from Hamlet and deliver it Claudius, Polonius takes the information that he gleams and tries to spin it in a way that will benefit him. An example of this is how he perceives Hamlet's madness, not as grief for his father or an act, but instead as symptoms of being love-sick with Ophelia, Polonius' daughter. He even goes to extreme and dramatic lengths to prove this saying that he would have the King, "Take this from this if it be otherwise." (2.2.168). Eventually, Polonius is slain as a result of this greed driven deception, continuing the theme that deception brings
Here Hamlet calls Polonius “[A] Tedious old [fool] ” and refers to him as the fishmonger (2.2.237). It is clear that Hamlet lacks respect Polonius. Perhaps Polonius is crying for attention, more respect, or exert more power from Hamlet. “...Ophelia, Laertes, and Claudius all have high regard for Polonius. Hamlet disdains the man.” It seems as if he can place power over his own children but not necessarily anyone else. Polonius has similar characteristics to that of the classic “Igor” or Fritz character. He is the uncredited but needed sickick to the villain but that has little to no benefits however, he does it because he feels that he has must provide the honor for his family “How say you by that? Still harping on /my daughter. Yet he knew me not at first; he said I / was a fishmonger. He is far gone. And truly, in my /youth, I suffered much extremity for love, very near / this” (2.2.204-09) because being the sidekick provides better opportunities and outer appearance than being known as the fishmonger. Polonius does most of the work with gaining information about Hamlet as Claudius stays hand off everything that can make him out to be the villain. In fact Claudius almost only uses the Polonius name to do the majority of his dirty work. By having Laertes attempt to kill Hamlet during a duel but also using Ophelia to get to Hamlet
While Polonius often appears insignificant, he actually plays a crucial role in the plot of Hamlet. Polonius is an advisor of the king and the father of Laertes and Ophelia and is elderly and demented man. As a character Polonius should address the question of whether he is a devoted father or a ruthless politician. Polonius eventually dies but since hamlet is a Shakespearian tragedy and in a Shakespearian tragedy most if not all characters die, but Polonius death is the first of many deaths to occur, and it is the cause of many of the other. There is some controversy on whether Polonius is responsible for his death, even though hamlet actually killed Polonius.

Exodus begins in Egypt where the pharaoh is enslaving thousands of Israelites. He fears there are too many Israelites so he demands midwives kill all male babies. Moses is born and after finding him by the Nile, the pharaoh’s daughter takes Moses as her own. After killing a Egyptian, Moses escapes to Midian and starts a family. Meanwhile in Egypt, the oppression of the Hebrews worsens, and God decides to intervene. He tells Moses to go to Egypt and bring the Hebrews out of Egypt with his brother Aaron. Moses travels to Egypt and tells the Pharaoh to free the people or face god’s wrath. The pharaoh ignores Moses’s warning. God incites a wrath of ten plagues on the Egyptians. After the plagues, the pharaoh allows the Hebrews to leave.
Poverty is one of the biggest issues in Egypt. In the fifth social plan of the government, (FY03-FY08), the fight against poverty is one of its main objectives. Government officials plan to improve these rates of poverty by improving reading and literacy rates and increasing education and employment.
According to Murray & Cooper (1998) “Compared with women who had been well in the postnatal period, those who had experienced postnatal depression were more likely to report behavioural difficulties in the child. These principally concerned sleeping and eating problems, temper tantrums, and separation
Teamwork is one of the important component that is required in any types of business organization . Team is defines as “a small number of people with complementary skills who are committed to the common purpose, performance goal, and approach for which they hold themselves mutually accountable”(katzenbach and Smith 1993,Boddy.d,2011) . Teamwork offer numbers of advantages like in teamwork work are completed earlier because large task are divided into smaller projects and then it find out an individual who is best for doing the jobs. Tasks that are smaller in size also need less time and brainpower then the work is less sporting to the people who are working. Teamwork also helps in combing the unique skills of people and makes them work efficiently. In a teamwork strength of different people are combined for the benefit of entire team and to produce better product and teamwork also help in building the unity among the group member .In a teamwork relationship play an important role because it helps people to communicate properly with one another whereas friendship helps in creating a job satisfaction. Support system is also important because if support system will be stronger than people will be comfortably depend on each other. These are the advantage of the teamwork but in teamwork there are also disadvantage like in teamwork there is an uneven participation of the members because they depend on other for doing the majority of work this can lead to hatred in the workplace. In a teamwork everyone is not team player, as they cannot perform well while team is working because they want to do their own so they might face problems to get fitted in a certain work culture, which will result in displeasure. In teamwork there is less creati...
