Personal Reflection Paper: Stock Market Project. The Stock Market Project simulation was quite an experience for me. It felt more like a wild and rickety amusement park ride than even a fast rollercoaster ride. Before I started, I didn't have much knowledge about stocks or investment strategies. However, I was eager to learn and ready to dive in! Unfortunately, my initial excitement led me to make a series of risky trades that resulted in my portfolio gradually declining in the first few weeks of the simulation. Nevertheless, despite the rough start, the project likewise gave me a glimpse of the exhilarating possibilities of the market. Through a daring (and admittedly foolish) trade, I managed to take my portfolio from last place to the …show more content…
I knew companies issued stocks, and that people could invest in them to grow their money. However, the intricacies of stock prices, ticker symbols, investment strategies, and more are entirely foreign to me. Through the project, I was able to gain valuable knowledge about different types of companies, like technology, their ticker symbols, and how different investment approaches can completely change a portfolio's performance. One of the most surprising aspects to me was the sheer speed of the market. Stock prices fluctuate constantly, sometimes within seconds! This fast-paced environment foregrounded the importance of staying informed, having a well-defined strategy before making investment decisions, sticking to the strategy, and not trading emotionally. Enthusiasm and the Importance of Caution This project unquestionably sparked my interest in the world of investing. Researching companies, analyzing trends, and making investment decisions was absorbing and exhilarating to me. Notwithstanding, the project also taught me the importance of remaining cautious and avoiding emotional decisions. Early on, I found myself selling stocks too quickly based on short-term price dips. This approach proved detrimental, and as I played, I learned the value of a long-term perspective and a clearly defined trading
For instance, Royal Bank of Canada stockbroker Brad Katsuyama. Discovered that nearly all his trades had predictable or desired results. He lost money when he should have gained it. Before he could blink, shares which would have likely profited traded far worse than the original market price.

Before we invested, we decided to pick two types of companies to invest in. We would choose companies that had expensive stock but steady increasing prices and we would choose smaller companies that had cheaper stock but whom had a chance for potential huge price increases. If the smaller companies’ stock went down the bigger companies’ steadily increasing stock would even it out, but if the smaller companies’ stock price rose greatly, like we predict, we could sell and make a good profit. We found a big name company that had reliable stock prices pretty quick, but finding a small company whose stock price could rise was hard. We
What I have learned from the stock investing game: Before playing the stock market game, I honestly had no idea how the stock market works. I, however, have learned so much about the process of the stock market. It was an advantage to learn how to buy and sell stocks without losing anything, that will indeed enable me to invest in the real stock market without any concern. I learned that there is no certainty about winning or losing; however, there are many factors that we should consider before buying or selling stocks. One of these factors is following the daily news about the firm that you are willing to buy its stocks.
There were a lot of stocks to chose from in this project as you can go for a big company or go for a small company no matter which one you chose there is risks. The five stocks that I chose were Netflix, Audi, Heineken, Verizon, and Adidas. I chose Netflix because lots of people watching Netflix, and many of those people enjoy it and it is a fast growing company as more people are getting Netflix into their homes. The second stock that I chose was Audi, it was the second company that popped into my head. From the research that I did, it was doing all right. In my freshman year, I won an internship with GF Securities, one of the first, full-service investment banks in China. By participating in several IPO roadshows for NEEQ (National Equity Exchange and Quotation) Listing in Shanghai and dealing with clients’ requests for option trading, I developed a thorough overview of practical capital rising procedures as well as the function of various financial instruments. Later, I sought a more globalised experience by joining the General Electric(GE). In the process of organising the new machine launching conference, I have fully utilised the cross-communication skill that helped the manager to reconcile the needs and expectations from different retailers. In this summer, I gained an opportunity to work within the Guangdong Internet Finance Association. It provided me with a valuable insight to the emerging internet finance industry and made me think prospectively toward the future business model of financial institutions. These highly diversified internships not only enriched my ability to work independently as well as in a team, building upon the criticism and implement ideas, and but also widened my horizon that inspired me to approach the problem from different perspective and reach a more objective
In order to make the most logical and beneficial purchases, it was first important that I fully understood the terminology used within the stock market. Words such as blue chip stock, mutual fund, stock splits, and ticker symbol would all prove incredibly important for me to understand if I was to do well within the game. For example, the first stock I bought, Disney, taught me the definition of a ticker symbol - in Disney’s case, DIS. This enabled me to quickly identify other stocks by their ticker symbols as well, and I soon became familiar with the term. In addition, when I bought Coca-Cola, I soon learned its financial importance as a reliable blue-chip stock, as it and other stocks like it proved profitable for me. My class was also required to buy a mutual fund, and in doing so I learned how exactly a mutual fund differs from a stock, the positives and negatives of buying one, et cetera. In addition, my knowledge of the history that places like the NYSE contains proved incredibly important towards my success within the game. Because I learned about the NYSE’s foundation and the many people who worked to make it what it is today, I was able to fully appreciate the importance of the stock market as I moved through the simulation. This, in turn, helped me take the Stock Market Game seriously and not waste any of my money on stocks that I considered

We analyzed the market for two weeks to determine when the equity market would turn from a bearish to bullish market. Without a change in the market and a declining bond price, we decided to invest in equities according to our investment strategy, which brought us into the second phase of our portfolio. Therefore, at the beginning of February we bought shares in Sirius, Microsoft, Neon, Washington Mutual, and Nike. As assumed, the equity market continued to plummet decreasing the value of all our stocks except for our Gold Corporation stock.
I became an enthusiast of finance ever since I was at high school. At the political economy class, my teacher asked us: if you have a million RMB, how would you use it? She then introduced us the concept of investment, and I was intrigued specifically by the stock. For the latter two years of my high school, I have been reading books and articles regarding the stock market in the U.S. and in China. As one of the outstanding students ranked top 1% in College Entrance Exam in Hainan Province, China, I was accepted by the City University of Hong Kong with a full scholarship. With the strong interest in finance, I chose quantitative finance and risk management as my major.
The stock market is an essential part of a free-market economy, such as America’s. This is because it provides companies the capital they need in exchange for giving away small parts of ownership in their company to investors. The stock market works by letting different companies sell stocks to gain capital, meaning they sell shares of their company through an exchange system in order to make more money. Stocks represent a small amount of ownership in a company. The more stocks a person owns, the more ownership they have of that company. Stocks also represent shares in a company, which are equal parts in which the company’s capital is divided, entitling a shareholder to a portion of the company’s profits. Lastly, all of the buying and selling of stocks happens at an exchange. An exchange is a system or market in which stocks can be bought and sold within or between countries. All of these aspects together create the stock market.
Never have I ever climbed a mountain peak. As a child, I imagined myself conducting expeditions in deep-frozen pathways, leading amateur explorers to the top of the world, and instructing rookies in surviving harsh blizzards. Even though slightly altered, my childhood dream has been achieved. I led a team of fellow classmates, in my Strategic Management course, to the success summit of a financial competition. Over the course of a semester, I and my teammates were supposed to create and manage a company of the IT industry, in a computer-simulated environment, along with other four rival teams. I dealt with strategy and financial matters of our virtual enterprise, while my colleagues were working on marketing and manufacturing. During the four months of the exercise, I have experienced finance from various aspects: capital budgeting, through selecting favorable investment for upcoming quarters; debt management, by assessing the necessary amount and efficiency of loans; profitability analysis and dividend policy, which had been used to compile the company’s general performance index. Working in a multinational team, which included an American, a Norwegian and a Moldovan, strengthen my negotiations skills, as well as flexibility and cooperation. But above all, this experience intensified my passion for finance. Of course, a pleasant bonus was the fact that, in the end, our company’s financial performance was six times the performance of second-best team.
I am currently majoring in Finance Management. Most of the time people think of finance as just managing money. However, finance is needed for so much more! The finance industry deals with starting businesses, developing new products, expanding markets, as well as everyday things like saving for retirement, purchasing a home, and even insurance. The stock market, asset allocation, portfolio analysis, and electronic commerce are all key aspects in finance. In this paper, I will explain how these features play a vital role in the industry, along with the issues that come with these factors.
