For as long as I can remember, I have heard people complaining about how much money professional athletes make. They say that these athletes don't deserve to make that much money for simply playing a game. People even get angry when they hear how much professional athletes are making in new contracts. The athletes are not being paid public money. An athlete's entire career could end in a split second. Some people believe that athletes are overpaid because they are just playing a game, however the truth is professional athletes are not overpaid.
Almost every time the topic of professional athletes salaries is brought up the phrase “Those greedy football players are earning in a year more than what teachers and nurses will make in their entire lives,” makes an appearance. The mathematics behind this are correct; however the point is invalid. People think that the athletes are taking money away from the nurses, teachers and firefighters that, in their opinion, the nurses and firefighters work harder than the athletes that are getting paid such immense sums of cash. “The fact is, Steven Gerrard could take a 90% pay cut tomorrow and no nurse anywhere is going to benefit from it.” (Ator 5). On the contrary, the Liverpool star would would be paying the Government much less in income taxes. In any sport, if the player wages go down the owners are the only ones that are going to benefit. The only thing that will happen is that the the billionaire owners will have more money to spend on their yachts, while the average fan will see no change in prices (5). Fans are the ones who are willing to pay all of their money to see their favorite team play, buy over-priced beer, food, and jerseys (Mueller 21). All of the fans money is not going to was...

When asked “Are elite sports people overpaid?” people have varied responses. Some people would agree with this and say ‘why should a person that hits or kicks a ball be paid as much as someone who saves lives or teaches children everyday? But on the other hand some would disagree and say that sports people are paid for their skills just like everybody else! These are both very good arguments.
Players do not deserve the money they receive. There are people who do much more than the players do. Why do teachers not get paid millions of dollars to teach kids? Some of those kids end up going on to become professional athletes. Police officers and firemen risk their lives to keep people safe and most of them do not even make any more than 95 thousand dollars a year (Megerian). These athletes get fined more money than that and hand it over like someone just asked them for one dollar. Players have all of this money and do not even do anything worth earning it. Why do they get this money? It is because fans value athletes more than the important things in life like education and family.
Many people in today’s world complain about how much Pro Athletes get pay. So I ask are Pro athletes overpaid? Look at it in this sense; they are living their dreams just like most business men do everyday. If you think that professional sports is not a job then just try to walk in the shoes of a athlete for a day. Sports, like medicine, healthcare, or software, are a business. In that business, owners pay their players what they deem they are worth.
Many people can easily picture this scene in their minds: the roaring crowds, the smell of easy- to-eat foods, and the thousands of people all dressed in the same colors. That’s a description of game day at a major college. College sports bring in a lot of money, yet their players don’t receive any money. Many people view this as something that needs to be changed while others believe that only professionals should be compensated. In the essays “Let Stars Get Paid” and “College Athletes Should Not Be Paid”, both authors give their opinions on whether or not college athletes should be paid. College athletes should not be paid because they already receive many benefits from being athletes.
In recent years, a major controversy in the NCAA has been whether or not student athletes in college should be paid for playing sports. There are different viewpoints from different people stating if they should or not. Many people believe that they are already being rewarded enough with their education being paid, but even with the school’s help with their tuition and school fees, many have trouble paying personal expenses. Even though some people believe they shouldn’t be compensated for their hard work and dedication, it is the right thing to do, due to their lack of time occupied by sports and schoolwork. Many famous athletes in college such as Johnny Manziel and Tim Tebow bring in millions of dollars into their universities due to publicity and even though they are breaking their backs they don’t receive a single dime for their hard work. The college coaches also get a really high salary, just for coaching the players. They also receive many contracts that include shoe contracts, TV and radio contracts, and many perks along the way. When the coaches get their teams to the playoffs or win major games, they might receive big bonuses. It doesn’t make sense that the athletes are the ones that are doing all the work to get the far yet they don’t see any form of compensation. Many executives from the NCAA and the universities also get millions of dollars from big sporting events, and they do nothing to earn it. The athletes are the ones taking stuff out of their time and working hard to not get paid.
One reason athletes are not overpaid is the’re doing it for our enjoyment. The author mentioned,” it may seem unfair athletes
Do athletes get overpaid? Is it fair that the average NFL player gets paid 1.9 million dollars a year while the average heart surgeon gets paid 533 thousand dollars annually? I think that professional athletes don’t get paid too much. There are multiple reasons that proves that their pay is not excessive. Their careers are short, they risk their body for our entertainment, and they motivate children.

In closing, these athletes are making too much money in a society that traditionally bases salaries on the value of ones work. These athletes do not know what real work is or how hard it is to make a dollar. Although their job is difficult, they do not play a role in our economy like their salaries indicate. Therefore, they should receive less money.
The salary of professional athletes are always being debated on whether they make too much or it 's the right amount they should make. Some of the athletes do make millions and millions of dollars, but there is some that don 't. Anyways in order to make the millions first an athletes must make it to the professional level. For example in soccer only 1.4% of people actually make it to the professional level. So the rest of the people make it for other sports such as football, basketball, baseball, and others. To be considered a professional athlete you must be getting payed to play a sport. They will be playing for a league and even tournaments and get rewarded with more money if they win. Some may think an athlete
A debate that has been escalating lately has to do with professional athletes being overpaid. Professional athletes are not overpaid because they do more than just play a game. There is mental and physical preparation, being role models, and making the world a better place. Since they have to deal with more than just playing a game, they are definitely not overpaid.
In today’s society many will argue whether or not professional athletes are overpaid. In the present time athletes are being paid phenomenally large amounts of money for their entertainment. It is my claim that all professional athletes are overpaid because they do not offer society an essential function that improves or enhances our world in comparison to other professionals such as medical doctors, lawyers, and teachers. Society does not value entertainment enough to warrant such high salaries such as those of many professional athletes. There is no reason that these athletes should demand these tremendous amounts of money. This is why you have to put into question their reasoning for demanding such high salaries.
“Our president earns a yearly salary of $400,000, and he runs our country, while the athletes just provide amusement. Don’t get me wrong, but paying an athlete $ 13.5 million for a single year is just overpriced.”(DailyHerald.com) What this is trying to say is that athletes get even paid so much money than what a professional and well educated person does. To me this is unfair because the people that studied for years earn less, but athletes also worked so much to get to where they are now. Many agree that athletes get overpaid while others believe they don’t I don’t stand on any side I am neutral towards this
Athletes put their bodies on the line for the game. Athletes will put themselves in a risk of getting injured for the whole game so they should get paid a lot if they are willing to get themselves hurt for the game. Athletes have to train and travel all the time and they get any rest. It is unhealthy to not have that much rest and it is bad for you. Athletes get concussions and they brake parts of their bodies. Athletes can die from their job because of how dangerous it is, and their families worry about them also they might never be able to walk again so It’s pretty fair that they get paid a lot. Athletes are doing very dangerous things and they are sacrificing themselves for the game so getting paid a lot of money for that is
On one hand people think athletes are overpaid, I will prove otherwise. One reason they donate. Another reason is they work hard, and are responsible financially.
