The main character, Jane Eyre is left in care, under the supervision

of the Reed family. Whilst Mr Reed is on his death bed he asks one

thing of his wife. That was to care and to keep a roof over miss

Eyre’s head, he loved Jane dearly and he was the only one in the

family who did.

Jane was kept under the roof of Mrs Reed but was not looked after or

shown love at all. This resulted in mental cruelty and the things that

Mrs Reed put forth to Jane also resulted in Physical cruelty.

Mrs Reed has two uncaring, selfish children who abuse Jane and Mrs

Reed just turns a blind eye. This therefore has scared Jane

physically and mentally. Many adults within the first four chapters

of Jane Eyre abuse children including Jane herself, in more ways than

one and I will explain further how I feel this effects the

relationships those children have with people, mainly adults.

Mrs Reeds son, John hits Jane and causes bleeding, she knows full well

that he hit her because she saw it happen but she decides to believe

what she wants to believe and that was that her son is the good little

angel that she wishes she had brought up. Jane is punished and

therefore gets sent to the Red room. This is a room where Mr Reed

died and is said to be haunted, even Mrs Reed and the maids only go in

there in day light when they have too. Mrs Reed knows full well that

Jane will be scared of this. Jane even passes out in evidence to how

petrified she became. This is a fo...

like little Georgiana then she would be able to get away with a lot

more and be let off with her faults.

In conclusion I think that the reason that the relationship with

adults and children were so minimal was because of the injustice of

their whole lives. The adults are the ones who can help and change

the way they live but they don’t. The children feel a lot closer to

other children as they are in the same situation as themselves. When

Helen was dying, she did not want any adult by her side, she wanted

Jane and this just shows that in a time of life and death situation

the one who Helen trusted was a 10 year old girl who had very little

experiences of the world. If justice was achieved by the adults, and

the pupils lives got better, easier and more comfortable then I think

that the relationship between adults and pupils would have improved

greatly.
