Being able to project and vocalise effectively is vital in drama and in every day communication. Speech allows us to convey messages to one another in an understandable format to all. Communication and building relationships rely heavily on being able to vocalise our thoughts but being able to do so with the correct emotion and interpretation. Tone can be split into another subcategory of amount and quality. The tone amount refers to the volume level within a speech. If we are loud we usually express a higher pitch in our speech. When we are quitter our pitch tends to soften and be lower for it.
The quality of tone is something in which we use to convey emotion, we speak softly or aggressively to convey different emotions. This however, does not need to affect the volume of the directed speech, but it does change the intent delivered by the person speaking.
An overlooked tool for speech is the use of pauses within a dialogue. Pauses can be an effective way to draw attention from the audience to create anticipation for what is to happen next. It can emphasise deeper emotions and adds emphasis to a statement. However, if it is overused it begins to lose its usefulness and the audience become less engaged.
Using tools for speech and for breathing in drama is very important. It can alter the emotion and the tone one is trying to convey within a speech and further deliver a message that a vocalised message alone cannot do. The correct method of breathing can lead to a clear voice and a

Also, it identifies furthermore other aspects around communication that we commonly don’t think of, for example; personal appearance. The way we display ourselves expresses volumes. Therefore, it also shapes our listening, and observation of what others are essentially communicating to us. You could be putting off nonverbal cues that symbolize something other than what you are essentially verbalizing. I will be utilizing this article for my research paper. When it comes to communication there are many underlying things that effect the communication besides what is being said these things are nonverbal and unwritten communication. These things are what the mind sees or hears and you don’t necessarily have to recognize those subtle changes. Whether it is in the things you see from subtle facial expression change of the eyes squinting and a turn of the head as something is being spoken, or if it is the raise of the tone of the voice at the end of a sentence. I shared this information with my best friend and she was amazed that the way people interact is generally the same within groups in society. Brian Tracy once said, “Communication is a skill that you can learn. It 's like riding a bicycle or typing. If you 're willing to work at it, you can rapidly improve the quality of every part of your life.” Communication is defined as the process of acting on information. Communicating is a very essential component of everyday life. According to the text book, the average person spends between eighty and ninety percent of their “waking time” communicating (Beebe 2). Communication improves our relationships as well as our overall health. Without communication, the human species would end because it is such a necessity. There are a variety of forms of communication including interpersonal, mass, public, small group and intrapersonal

Some people are not big talkers but you always understand what they are saying by their actions, body language and facial expressions. Another positive indicator is when a person has their body relaxed and facing the sender, this projects active listening skills which are always a plus. Direct contact with the person is important but not in an uncomfortable way. Using a soft tone voice is also a great positive indicator; it conveys sincerity and positive reception of the message being sent. Negative indicators would be wandering eyes, constant movement of an arm or leg; these signal that a person is bored or not interested in the message being sent. Folding arms leaves a negative impression also; it signals that a person is not open to receiving the message that is being delivered. The receiver can also experience negative and positive effects of demonstrative communication, for example if a sender is being aggressive or using a negative tone when delivering the message, the receiver may feel uncomfortable or threatened. It is important to speak slowly and with a gentle tone when talking to someone if you want that person to really understand what is being said. When a person is angry or uncomfortable that will likely come across in their delivery because their voice will be raised, and the body language will be
