Many young, teen girls experience the harmful psychological effects of having an abortion. Though many people are against abortions, it is still being done. Teen’s attitudes and demeanor about themselves change drastically once they have had an abortion. The abortion has several side effects that a teen may or may not know how to cope with it. These girls experience a sense of withdraw, quilt and self destruction.
In the past two years many law-makers and statesmen have opposed abortion. Many states have set requirements for clinics and other facilities out of reach for continued services. The need for abortion in America remains an option for many teens. Counseling services should be provided in an attempt to decrease the psychological effects of this procedure. As of 2013 several surgical abortion clinics have closed. Not all are permanently. Of those that remain open, some have discontinued the abortion procedure but continues to sale abortion-inducing drugs. Abortions have not become a thing of the past, yet politicians are trying their best to have it outlawed.

Another thing to take into consideration is the physical health risks during and after an abortion. As Ring-Cassidy and Gentles(2003) said “Abortion is never with out risks”(p. 89), this tells us that you can never be sure your going to come out completely fine when you go in for an aborti...
Betty was only seventeen when she found out that she was pregnant. She and the father had been in a long term relationship, and had discussed having children of their own. However, when he found out that she was pregnant their relationship immediately changed. Suddenly he began to question her fidelity, and he accused her of being pregnant with another man’s baby. After his reaction, Betty decided not to tell anyone, especially because having a child out of wedlock was frowned upon. She began to search for an abortion clinic. She found one by looking through the telephone directory for gynecologists who did not advertise themselves as obstetricians. She went to meet the practitioner in a run-down shack in the middle of nowhere. Once Betty arrived, the practitioner immediately began the procedure. The method this practitioner used was a cervical puncture followed by an insertion of willow bark. Betty was given no pain medicine. After she left she began to bleed profusely and soon presented symptoms of an infection. Although the woman who performed the abortion told her not to come back, she did, and was given some painkillers. After a few days the infection appeared to have passed and her doctor told her she was no longer pregnant (Fadiman). Betty’s story is not a rare one. Many women suffered because of the unsafe conditions that they had endure to get an abortion after abortion was criminalized. These conditions were a direct result of new laws that punished women for attempting to procu...
In a 2006 study conducted by the CDC, it was reported that 53-56% of abortions were performed on white women between the ages of 20 and 29. Among the 46 states that provided data consistently during 1996--2006, a total of 835,134 abortions (98.7% of the total) were reported; the abortion rate was 16.1 abortions per 1,000 women aged 15--44 years, and the abortion ratio was 236 abortions per 1,000 live births. During the previous decade (1997--2006), reported abortion numbers, rates, and ratios decreased 5.7%, 8.8%, and 14.8%, respectively; most of these declines occurred before 2001. During the previous year (2005--2006), the total number of abortions increased 3.1%, and the abortion rate increased 3.2%; the abortion ratio was stable. (CDC, 2009)
The most common conflicts that cause a woman to get an abortion are based on their own personal responsibilities. Sixteen percent of women, who get abortions, believe that their life would be changed too much to acquire a child. Twenty-one percent of expectant mothers feel that they are not ready for the responsibility to care for an adolescent. Few as twelve percent have complications with relationships or are unmarried. One perecent have been raped and/or incested. Twenty-one percent have financial disputes. Eight percent currently bare children and have all they wish for. Three percent have discovered that the baby in the womb has health issues. Four perecent of the abortions are other reasons. Lastly, the abortion pill used to minimize the fetus, does not work, therefore the woman receives an
The number of abortions and abortion providers have slowly declined since the 1980’s. The article provides facts about the amount of providers available and the amount of abortions that take place. Therefore, with the amount of abortion providers declining, many women have limited access to this procedure and cannot exert their right to have an abortion.
Abortion has so many different viewpoints on the topic, some positive, some negative. Roe and Wade played a huge part in the decision making process on abortion. Everyone has their own opinions about abortion, but the opinions concerning when life begins have a significant effect on a person’s views concerning whether they are for or against abortion. Studies of the long-term effects of abortion on women are traumatic and devastating. They can include mental, physical, and emotional problems after an abortion.
In addition, one analysis, in relation to abortion problems, states, “from 1988 to 1997 found the risk of death increased by 38% for each additional week of gestation, during the pregnancy.” (Jones). “Such studies rely on information from many countries and include legally mandated registers hospital administrative data,” so current research affirms that an induced abortion increase the risk of different physical consequences, such as breast cancer, placenta previa, and maternal suicide. (Bachiochi). Late term abortion not only affects the mother’s condition physically, but also psychologically. Although not all women respond in the same way, some of them develop diverse mental disorders leading to suicide after they received an abortion. Studies in Canadian newspapers show “a suicide rate of 34.9 per 1000” from women who experimented an abortion, in contrast to “a suicide rate of 5.9 per 1000” from women who gave birth to their babies. The same newspapers report “a rate of 5.2 per thousand hospitalizations for psychiatric

Growing up with 4 younger siblings and many cousins has taught me that all babies can turn into wonderful people. By killing a baby and preventing its development into a full person is the ultimate undervaluing of a life. To take the life of a future being, especially in the horrific way of abortions which is essentially tearing and vacuuming a fetus out of a pregnant woman, would wreak havoc on anyone having to witness it day after day. The author’s battle inside of her heart would not exist if she taught these women and couples about the many alternative options that did not end in their baby dying. Amidst discussing this ethical battle, Tisdale states, “Each basin I empty is a promise- but a promise broken a long time ago,” and is speaking of the women’s unpreparedness to raise a child and the large number of women who fall victim to failed contraceptives.
A 52% of women getting abortions performed on them are younger than 25 years old and 19% are teenagers. The abortion rate is highest for those women aged 18 to 19 (56 per 1,000 in 1992 pregnancy centers.org).the reasons for this alarming rate are various and vary from person to person. But the most common decision to have an abortion is to postpone childbearing. This decision is mostly picked by the older group of women in this statistic. Another alarming fact is that a percentage of women are been pressured into abortion. Either by peers or by them realizing that they could no longer do the things they did before they became pregnant and that is when they encounter a struggle with their values. Since there is also a considerate percentage of teenage girls having abortions they are at high risk for developing serious emotional and psychological problems following abortion. Such as the impact abortion can have on a minor's emotional health, physical health, fertility, and future pregnancies. All these factors can play an important role in the future of that teenager. All of this wouldn’t have been possible without the Roe v. Wade case which in 1973, the Supreme Court decided the case of Roe v. Wade, and made abortion legal for the first time in the United States. This decision allowed women the choice to decide if they are going to terminate a pregnancy, and it allowed women the right to get a safe and legal abortion. From 1880 to 1973 abortions were illegal, and many women were having illegal and very unsafe abortions-often causing permanent damage to their reproductive organs or sometimes even death from i bleeding or infections. Since the decision was handed down by the Supreme Court, women's access to abortion ha...
In “Abortion Rights Outlined”, it is said that since the 1973 Roe v. Wade Supreme Court decision that granted women the right to abortion, many women, including teens have used abortion as a way to escape the responsibilities of being a mother. Sexual activity amongst teens has been an ongoing problem in the United States due to the fact that over the past several decades, more teens are engaging in sexual activities and have become pregnant. With teen sex already being an issue, the opportunity for teens to gain access to abortion drugs has only increased this problem. “Facts and Statistics about Teenage abortion” reported that, “Of all the teenage women that become pregnant, 35% choose to have an abortion rather than bear a child. Statistics like these indicat...
Having an abortion is a very emotional process for anyone, especially for a teenage girl. Girls who are younger than 17 are not always matured enough to handle their emotions or this type of situation. Also, a parent should be aware of this process because everyone grieves differently and they would want to know what’s going on in their kids life. “Terminating a pregnancy is often an emotional and complex decision for a woman at any age.” (Pregnancy-Unplanned Pregnancy-About Abortion Article)
In society today, teens are taught by the television and the media that pre-marital sex is not a bad thing. This problem is leading to many teenage pregnancies, that then lead to abortion. All over the world teens are faced with many challenges in their everyday lives. Sex is being portrayed as extremely appealing in the media, but what they don't show is the pregnancies and the unborn child that never asked to be created in the first place that is being discarded. Abortion is in no way acceptable, it is murder of an unborn child.
