However, though abortion is legalized throughout the nation, pro-life advocates still believe it is considered an act of murder unlike pro-choice supporters who contend that it is a woman’s right to decide her parental fate. Two political and religious views about abortion are the pro-life and pro-choice.

crime against a spouse who offered himself to spawn a child. In the past, protected sex was not an option, therefore women began to conceive children more. When a woman established that they were pregnant, most of the time, they did not want to keep the child. The woman, only had one option if they did not wish to keep the child, abortion. Twenty-one percent of all pregnancies end in abortion, in the US.
It was commonly unsafe, but it was also unregulated. In 1821 Connecticut was one of the first states to declare abortion as a crime. Shortly after, New York jumped on the bandwagon in 1845. The consequence was harsh, if a woman was to get an abortion in the state of NY, then they would be punished. As the years passed, in the 1800’s abortion techniques became legal and well known throughout the United States and the world. The uproar caused dozens of bombings and shootings at clinics and doctors offices. By the 1900’s most states had already banned abortion. On November 5, 2003 a Partial Birth Abortion Ban Act of 2003 was witnessed into law by 43rd President, George W. Bush. After multiple court cases, such as Gonzales v. Carhart/Gonzales v. PLanned Parenthood, the US Supreme Court upheld the law in April 18, 2007. Since the year of 1980 the rate of women getting an abortion has decreased.

Also, after twelve to sixteen weeks, a surgical abortion can be done, it is called dilation and evaction. Medicated abortions are done eight weeks or under, during pregnancy. Twenty-eight percent of abortions are medicated. During the medicated abortions, the woman takes medications called mifepristone and misoprostol (RU-486) to clear the fetus. Each one of the procedures takes place in the first trimester because the fetus cannot exist independent of the mother during that period of time. In the US alone, 1 in 5 pregnancies end in abortion. 1.7% of women, ages 15-44 have an abortion. Eighteen percent are teens and thirty-three percent are in their twenty’s. There are 1,720 abortion providers and 839 legal clinics in the US. As awareness about abortion continues to spread, the number of abortion providers has been decreasing.
As a result, it is obvious that abortion strikes different feelings and beliefs in the mind of a person today. The debate will continue, as it has since the discovery of the procedure, as long as women have the right to choice. Educating our young men and women on preventative measures will give them an alternative solution to an age old issue.
