Abortion is a big part of the American government because being a citizen in a democracy leads one to believe that their opinion matters. Abortion is one of the most and has for the most part always been a controversial topic. In a democratic society, people are allowed to share their opinion and vote on what they want. As a citizen of America, we should also know the fact and history behind our views and opinion on topics such as abortion. Living in a democracy, everyone will have different opinions, but when an opinion has a law passed in favor of them, “folks wanna pop off” as Obama would say. Pro-life advocates argue that the fetuses must be saved and that many of these abortions are done in cases that are not hopeless. Pro-life can argue that only 13% of abortions are because of rape and the incapability of not being able to carry a child because of health issues. They believe that the government should preserve all human life no matter what the circumstances may be. Pro-choice advocates believe that abortions are to save the life or health of the mother or terminate pregnancies where the fetus cannot survive birth or after birth. Many of the reasons for wanting an abortion include, that it would interfere with work, they cannot afford a child, and they are a single parent. They believe that people should have unlimited independence, including making their own decisions regarding their reproductive systems. The main conflict between these two groups is that Pro-Life believes that an undeveloped human life is sacred and the government should protect, while the pro-choice group believes that the government should not intervene with a women’s right to decide whether or not if she wants to continue on with her …show more content…

As you may have noticed, with over 1.04 million abortions in the U.S, there are many conflicts with pro-life and pro-choice advocates. With the Supreme Court announcing that they will hear another abortion case and make the decision in 2016, the pressure is put on the presidential candidates because their views will be very crucial. This case is said to be one of the most vital cases on abortion in the last two decades according to CNN’s Pamela Brown. Republican candidate Ben Carson has recently compared to abortion to slavery in an article written by Eric Bradner, so you can infer that he will probably receive some votes from people who are pro-life. Another republican candidate, Senator Marco Rubio, stated on CNN that “all human life is worthy of protection”.
