The Pony Express: It Is Time To Put the Horse To Rest When Americans go to check their mail, usually people find a plethora of advertisements and bills. It is very scarce for someone to receive “treasures” in the mail because most technologically advanced people continue to drift over to the internet as a way to reach each others, via e-mail and different forms of social media. Thus the postal service is failing in this growing economy. The United States Postal Services do not need reconstruction. It should be demolished, due to the fact that hundreds of trees are being wasted, and the United States Postal Service would require millions of dollars just to keep itself alive, despite losing billions already. Thousands of trees are being depleted for continual junk mail that is sometimes never opened. According to consumers “...89 percent say in polls that they’d prefer not to receive direct-marketing …show more content…
People have been constructing letters to their loved ones for many years; updating them on how things are going. However, majority of the time the letters are never opened. Therefore, wasting trees on the paper, and money on the USPS. Most of the time all that is needed is a phone call, text, or email to reach their beloved family or friends. The United States should not reconstruct or restructure the Postal Service because it is a waste of money and trees which are used and seen everyday. Money has always been seen as vital to life because you need it to buy food, shelter, and other things, as wells as trees being vital to life because you need them to breathe. Therefore, Americans should do their part in conserving these special resources by not allowing them to be thrown away or wasted on something that no longer provides quality service, such as the United States Postal
Velazquez focuses on the unfair treatment of the poor community by large corporations. Because of this focus, she ignores the fact that in this distribution of waste-transfer stations, it can bring enormous economic values for this country’s development. Velazquez conveys that large corporations dump lots of waste and she has “personally never see a waste-transfer station on the upper East Side of Manhattan, or in the Hamptons” while almost forty percent of New York City’s waste-transfer stations are in her district (766). As a representative of her district, it is reasonable for Velazquez to be outraged by the waste-transfer stations’ distribution from her district’s residents’ points of view.
This case is about an experienced city postal carrier who has recently filled a position at a small town post office and has difficulty adjusting to a different way of life. The central characters include: Larry (the postmaster of Foster Creek), Jim (a senior carrier) and George (a senior carrier). The Foster Creek Post Office exists in a small town and the typical way of life is carried through at the post office. Harry has arrived at Foster from a fast-paced big city post office. Upon his arrival Harry is introduced to his new co-workers where he gives a shy hello and immediately begins his regular duties. Harry expresses no interest in becoming socially involved with Foster Creek and becomes further alienated from his co-workers. His remarkable efficiency and desire to complete his required work as well as any remaining incomplete work causes resentment towards his presence by the senior carriers. Larry is currently faced with the task of placing Harry with enough work to keep him occupied while maintaining harmony among the rest of the employees. His first suggestion is to lengthen Harry’s route, however the senior carriers disagree with Larry’s proposition.
The Postal Service Monopoly In the United States economy most markets can be classified into four different markets structures. But, each and every market in the United States is completely unique from the others. Generally the best type of market structure for the general public is per- fect competition because it creates the lowest possible price for the public.
1. Describe the nature and causes of the U.S. Postal Service orientation problem in the case. I offer that the causes of the U.S. Postal Service orientation problem are that the informal orientation and training structure is not defined clearly and it lacks the structure to ensure new employees are adequately prepared for their jobs as letter carriers. The poorly designed orientation and training process that is offered beyond that provided by Burgess is based on assumptions and is not reflective of well-planned design, implementation and evaluation phases of training as defined by Nick Blanchard and James Thacker.

The U.S. Postal Service is one of the largest organizations in the world. In fiscal 2005, it had nearly 705,000 career employees and handled about 211 million pieces of mail through an extremely complicated system of carefully coordinated activities (United States Postal Service Annual report, 2005).
In the 1600’s there was the foundations of representative government. In the 1600’s the colonists came up with something called a democracy. A democracy is a government in which people rule themselves. The colonists had voted for many certain laws. They ruled themselves by using the laws of society. The carter named “Magna Carta” was a character of liberties which was agreed by King John of England, it had made the king obey the same laws as the citizens. Protestantism is a branch within Christianity; this was mostly participated during the 16th century. These were people who had reformed certain practices in the Catholic churches. On November 11, 1620 the Mayflower Compact was signed. The Mayflower Compact is a legal contract which was agreed to have fair laws to protect the good.
If you would have asked me my personal opinion on the post office before I completed it I would have been on board with the folks trying to fight for it’s life. Although the United States post office is a historical monument in America, it is really no longer needed. With the amount of money it is losing, the amount of trees it is destroying, and how quickly technology is advancing I believe it is truly hurting our world more than it is helping it. There are local offices and businesses that are capable of sending out our mail just as productively as the government run office. I am in favor of saving trees, more than I am for keeping something around that has been here for hundreds of years. In eliminating the United States Post Office our world would benefit environmentally, economically, as well as financially.
The Transcontinental railroad could be defined as the most monumental change in America in the 19th century. The railroad played a significant role in westward expansion and on the growth and development of the American economy (Gillon p.653). However, the construction of the transcontinental railroad may not have occurred if not for the generous support of the federal government. The federal government provided land grants and financial subsidies to railroad companies to ensure the construction. The transcontinental railroad contributed to the formation of industry and the market economy in America and forever altered the American lifestyle.
The first post office in the United States was established in seventeen seventy-five, which makes it the oldest most reliable post service in history. It is a well know fact that in the beginning, this business was called the Pony Express, which began in eighteen sixty. Years later the US Post office has become the largest company that we rely on to deliver our mail. This mailing institution delivers more mail to a larger area than any other delivery service in the world. They are rendering assistance to more than one million people in North America. There are over six hundred thousand employees and in excess of thirty four thousand facilities nationwide. This institution thrives to provide customer service, available products, transport of products, and accessibility to all consumers. The United States Postal Service is a reliable, excellent, and efficient delivery service. They supply a wide variety of convenient products to help with any shipping needs consumers may have.
With regards to the post office, Starr appears to be completely correct. The post office system was very much influenced by the government and political decisions. This is mostly likely due to the fact that...
The speed in which the mail is transported is an important factor in sending mail by either E-mail or the postal system. E-mail easily has the leading edge in this field. With a click of a button, a message can be sent and received in a few seconds to several minutes. Whether you are sending E-mail to someone next door or across the world, the time it takes to send the message is usually the same. Data files can be easily sent to someone over E-mail; unfortunately, the larger the file is in size, the longer it will take to send and receive the E-mail. Data files can be mailed to people using the postal system if the data is copied to a floppy disk or a compact disc. The postal service can send any kind of package, from a simple letter to a computer, for a price depending on its size weight, and desired shipping speed. The speed of the postal service is a problem though. A single letter can ta...

Greenhouse gases and air pollution have reached such alarming levels that it has become imperative that everyone par takes in recycling. Recycling is the process by which an item is re-used beyond its original intent. The issue over whether there should be a federal mandate to recycle has been a highly debated issue of late. Supporters of mandating recycling believe it should be required to recycle because it reduces wastes in landfills, creates a healthier environment, and reduces greenhouse gases. However, opponents to the mandate believe recycling is too expensive, and that it is an intrusion of personal liberty. Likewise, there are “bottle bills” that consists of a deposit refund system in which consumers have the opportunity to get a refund on the deposits they pay the retailers to encourage recycling. However, many times large corporations such as Coca-Cola spend large amounts of money to make sure bills like this do not happen. Our government should pass a federal mandate that individuals in all states have to recycle. Although at first it may seem as though that would require too much government intervention, the larger more important picture is that it would significantly reduce pollution in the environment, and result in heath benefits for everyone.
Why should one write a letter? Now that the Internet exists and in just a few clicks and a "Welcome, You've Got Mail", one could send instant messages, email, or web cam, and in less than 30 seconds one receives a response. A phone call could be made in the time it takes for the writer to get the paper to write the letter, and then brainstorm about what to write, and how to write the letter. One could have picked up a cell phone and dialed five telephone numbers and could have carried at least three efficient conversations. The major reasons for the decline of letter writing include, the decline in handwriting skills in American classrooms, increase access to the worldwide web and all its advancements, and the urge to talk and go has a cell phone attached to every Americans ear. Although, the trend for a faster and more efficient technological age continues to increase letter writing is still a longer lasting conversation, which does not fade away with the hit of a button, or the hang up of a phone line.
