It was with this gun that Cruz was able to shoot and kill seventeen people at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School. There have been multiple incidents in American history alone that could have been avoided had existing gun regulation laws been enforced and monitored. Such incidents would include the Sandy Hook shooting in 2012, the 2007 Virginia Tech Shooting, the 1997 Columbine High School shooting, and a 2011 shooting involving Congresswomen Gabrielle Giffords. At this point, many people had focused on the regulatory issues of guns. Mosbergen stated, “As the nation mourned in the wake of that unthinkable tragedy, many citizens and lawmakers raised their voices to demand” (Mosbergen).
Some people believe that guns should be heavily regulated. Criminals will always have ways of getting weapons, whether it be from the black market, cross borders, or illegal street sales. New gun control laws will not stop them. Since the shootings of Columbine High School, Virginia Tech, and Sandy Hook, the frequency of mass shootings has increased greatly. Gun control is not effective as it has not been shown to actually reduce the number of gun-related crimes. Instead of considering a ban of private firearm possession, and violating individual ownership rights, it may be more practical to consider the option of partially restricting firearm access.

When twenty children and six educators were gunned down, many citizens were outraged and begged authorities to pass more stringent gun laws because with fewer guns, there could possibly be fewer incidents involving gun violence. Many people believe that the widespread availability of guns is making society unsafe. Each year, nearly 100,000 Americans are shot, 32,000 of them die, 47 children are shot every day, and eight of them die, according to the U.S. News Digital Weekly. In order to solve this problem, more stringent background checks should be required by all applicants, restriction and enforcement on the sale of guns at gun shows need to improve, and the availability of automatic weapons should be limited.

There are usually people who are far left or far right but there could be some in the middle who could easily be pushed in a certain direction depending on the topic at hand. When the 17 unfortunate students of Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School walked into class on February 14th, they expected the day to be a regular and happy day. Little did they know that it would not be joyful at all, but that it would become their last. On that very day Nikolas Cruz, a 19 year old barged into school with an AR-15 rifle and shot and killed 17 innocent students. This was not the first time a shooting this gruesome had occurred. Over the last decade shootings like the Parkland Shooting have become as common as small thefts. This has caused uproars among the student bodies.
