Frequent urination results from the body trying to excrete the excess glucose and thirst follows as dehydration sets in. Hunger, fatigue, mental fogginess, irritability, and mood changes result from a deficiency in ATP as the body cannot produce enough purely through fat metabolism via ketones. Acetone breath quickly follows as the body starts to upregulate fat metabolism in an attempt to use ketones for ATP production. This metabolic pathway creates various ketones, but one ketone acetone, is toxic and is excreted via the lungs. It can be detected as a “fruity” odor in the breath. This upregulation of fat metabolism creates a crisis known as diabetic ketoacidosis which can lead to a coma or even death (Harvey, 2012). Another life threatening acute symptom which is not as common in type 1 as type 2 diabetes is hyperglycemic hyperosmolar nonketonic syndrome or HHNS which can result in serious consequences such as a coma or even death. It is caused by increasing blood sugar and dehydration without the presence of ketones (Harvey, 2012). It can be caused by severe infection, severe illness, and medications that reduce glucose tolerance and increase fluid loss (Harvey, 2012). The various acute symptoms of type 1 diabetes are just as deadly as the long term effects of poor blood sugar
Another type of hunger catalyst is too fast. Fasting is the voluntary abstinence from eating for an extended period of time and is considered a controversial act (Fasting 1). Fasting is done many different ways, some use it in the form of religious redemption acts such as Lent, Ramadan, and Yom Kippur (Fasting 2). Religious fasting is done in periods throughout the year. When it comes to Lent, Catholics only give up meat for forty days of the year. Other religions give up food altogether among other things, such as, Muslims who celebrate Ramadan. Religious fasting is a common partaking throughout the yea, that each religious group values.

If you're watching your weight, the festive season brings great temptation in the form of delicious food, but you don't have to avoid all of your favorite holiday treats if you practise moderation. The trick is to not deprive yourself completely of all of the delicious festive food, or you're likely to cave in and over-indulge. Rather, before eating, ask yourself if you really need or want what you're about to eat, or if you're just eating because the food is there. Decide your limit regarding food and alcohol before a social event or meal, be mindful about what you put on your plate, and don't go back for seconds. It often helps to eat a light, healthy meal a couple of hours
Christian fasting is more than denying he or herself food or something else of the flesh – it’s a sacrificial lifestyle before God. In Isaiah 58, a “true fast is not just a one-time act of humility and denial before God; it is a lifestyle of servant ministry to others. Isaiah tells us, fasting encourages humility, loosens the chains of injustice, unties the chords of the yoke, frees the oppressed, feeds the hungry, provides for the poor, and clothes the naked. (Isaiah 58: 1-9). The concept of Christian fasting isn’t a one-day thing – it’s a lifestyle of servant living for God and others.

Introduction Christian disciplines are intentional practices, relationships and experiences which put us in a place where we notice God and open ourselves up to Him . Fasting is one of these disciplines where you voluntarily give up food, drink or an everyday desire to seek God in prayer . The abstinence and self denial of a fleshly desire for a higher purpose when coupled with prayer clears us out and opens us to the will of God, additionally makes us physically aware of our emptiness that Jesus alone can satisfy . Jesus was led to fast for 40 days by the Spirit in Matthew 4, and further on in Matthew 6 Jesus has an expectation that his disciples will practice fasting. Biblical scriptures on fasting outline warnings for this discipline,
