A heated debate, that has cat owners divided, is if you should declaw your cat.Declawing has been around for a long time, but now scientific evidence is coming out about how declawing is actually quite harmful to your cat.Getting a cat declawed can cause not only behavioral problems but can have an adverse effect on a cat’s lifestyle, along with causing long term and short term pain.
Regrettably, many people don’t even know what goes on during a declawing.According to the ASPCA “Declawing of cats, or onychectomy, is the amputation of the last digital bone, including the nail bone and claw, on each front toe”(Position Statement on Declawing Cats). This procedure can lead to many complications including infections and excessive bleeding “A study of 163 cats that went under onychectomy, posted in the Jul/Aug Journal of Veterinary Surgery, showed that 50% suffered from postoperative complications, such as pain, hemorrhage, and lameness; and long-term complications including prolonged lameness, were found in nearly 20% of the 121 cats who were followed up in the study”(Declawing: Cruelty or Convenience?).These statistics show that not only did half of the cats have complications, but some had complications some time after the operation.
Along with the physical complications from the operation; there are behavioral complications from the operation “...33% of

In addition to physically and behaviorally damaging your pet declawing also ruins their way of life.According to the Humane Society of the United States “Cats scratch to remove dead husks from their claws, mark territory, and stretch their muscles”(Declawing Cats: Far Worse than a Manicure).Which also, going back to behavioral issues, can lead them to urinate everywhere so that they can mark their territory. To quote the MobileSPCA “Declawed cats will often stop using the litterbox due to pain caused by digging in their litterbox, choosing instead a soft surface like your bed, laundry, or carpets”(Declawing
Lobotomies were traditionally used to remedy patients with psychological illnesses and behavioral disorders; in the 1950s, they were mainly phased out and substituted with medications, talk therapy, and other methods of dealing. As an overall decree, lobotomies are not carried out today, and many people reason that they are essentially quite brutal. When performed effectively, a lobotomy could bring about significant behavioral modifications for the patient. For psychotic patients, lobotomies were sometimes favorable, relaxing the patient so that he or she could live a somewhat average life. Lobotomies are also notorious for producing a lifeless affect and general reduced responsiveness; this was viewed as an advantage of the lobotomy over all by some supporters of the surgery. Nonetheless, lobotomies can in addition go very wrong. The brain is a tremendously elusive and very intricate organ, and in the era when lobotomies were performed, people were not familiar with much about the brain, as they did not have the assistance of a wide variety of scientific equipment to visualize the brain and its behaviors. At its worst, a lobotomy could be fatal, but it could also cause severe brain damage, ensuing in what was in essence mental retardation of the patient. Patients could also fall into comas and persistent vegetative states after lobotomies. The lobotomy is now thought
To some people, declawing is known as a simple and minor procedure. Declawing is much more complex than just clipping their toenails. It’s actually an invasive surgery known as feline onychectomy (PETA). The problem is that declawing a cat is basically another form of mutilation. declawing leads to the removal of a cats bones in their feet which then leads the cats to have less than the paw they were
In order to change the sound, these folds must close over the larynx, so they are removed. Debarking however can save dogs lives. Many people get rid of their dog if it barks too much, thus sending them to the pound. It can also help to debark your dog if you live anywhere where the neighbors can hear the dog barking. This procedure can help the relationship with the owner and the dog because the owner wont have to constantly get onto the dog.

However, these side effects can be avoided with the proper amount of vitamin and mineral supplements. Up to 20 percent of patients who undergo the operation will require follow-up surgeries to correct complications. Common problems include abdominal hernias, breakdown of the staple line and stretched stomach outlets. There’s rapid regain of weight and all sorts of medical problems. From vitamin deficiencies to constant illness, stomach upsets, diarrhea, fatigue and horrible wound infections. Many people don’t want to admit they’ve had problems because they’re so happy to be thin; “People who have had the surgery the past couple of years are in a honeymoon state”, states Guthrie, Catherine. The author of “Bariatric Surgery: A Radical Obesity Fix. They is so thrilled to be thin. They believe being thin at all costs is more important than their own lives. Even if the patients have problems although these are some complications, most patients undergo only one surgery and there's an 85 percent success rate.
A relatively low risk and quick surgery; however, after the surgery Stella’s vocal cords began to swell and she was having trouble breathing one day while playing. Her owners realized it and rushed her to the veterinarian. The doctor had to perform an emergency surgery that involved cutting out the swollen tissue which required a large incision along her neck leaving an ugly scar. This surgery was much more expensive than the original devocalization or hiring a dog trainer and could eventually require another removal of swollen tissues (Devocalized: Stella’s
A soft purr, a gentle paw. A pet cat is a luxury that humans have indulged in for thousands of years, from their beginnings in Africa and the Middle East, all the way to homes here in 2014. Cats rival dogs as the most common pet in the United States, with 30.4% of houses owning 2.1 cats each (“U.S. Pet Ownership Statistics”).While working cats, such as farm cats, barn cats, and other rural, semi-feral animals may be kept for specific purposes of keeping pest animals at bay, the vast majority of kept cats in the US are pet cats, kept in homes for companionship and affection. Cat owners want the best for their pets, and as such is important to keep pet cat indoors, for their own safety as well as the safety of the local wildlife.
Pet owners have varying opinions on whether or not spaying and neutering their animals is the right thing to do. When an animal is spayed or neutered, the organs that are responsible for reproduction are removed so that the animal is not able to produce offspring. This is also called “fixing” an animal. Neutering, which is done in males, is a surgical procedure in which the testicles of the animal are removed to prevent the production of sperm. While spaying, which is done in females, is a surgical procedure where the ovaries and uterus are removed. It is important to spay or neuter your pets because it is better for their health, character, and the world’s animal overpopulation.
Being a carnivorous predator, the cat needs some sort of play outlet besides its usual habitat or the owner may become the object of play predatory aggression.
Today’s domestic house cats sure have changed and traveled far from their old wildcat ancestors across the world. Cats have traveled halfway across the world and now live around the world in various breeds and sizes. Even though they live today in their domesticated form they still retain some of the traits that their ancestors bestowed upon them. The African wildcat is believed to be the ancestor of all domestic cats, and they’re even still alive to this day. Over thousands of years of speciation, domestic house cats came to be from these wildcat ancestors.
As humans, having cats as pets they are expected to adapt to human lifestyle and living conditions, forgetting the fact that houses are not their natural environment. Cats, as do all animals, behave the way they do since it is in their nature, despite the opinion of some behaviors being inappropriate. A cat has no concept of what is deemed right or wrong. A cat has to be able to understand what is desired for them to do or not to do in order to live a contented life in human surroundings. Part of the way a cat learns to understand a human is by humans understanding them and why they do what they do. Communication and understanding is the key to living in harmony with a house cat.
There can be numerous variables in the cost of cat cremation. It depends on the type of cremation, memorial service, and other extras you might choose. However, below are average costs to give you a close estimate of the total amount.
The myths that spaying and neutering is cruel, will change the animal’s personality, or will make the pet fat are not true. Spaying and neutering will give a pet a longer and healthier life. The risk of breast cancer in females, and testicular cancer in males is greatly reduced. Females will also no longer have messy heat cycles, and will not attract males. In males, the urge to roam and mark territory is eliminated. Some people would say that they do not want to give their pet an unnecessary, risky surgery. If this surgery is done when the animal is young and healthy, it is almost completely safe. The consequences of not getting this done are much riskier. The urge that males have to wander away from home can put them in very dangerous situations, such as getting ran over by cars or fighting with other males. For females, giving birth is a very risky
Many humans own a cat. Cats are considered peaceful and content animals. Even though many people own a cat, millions enter animal shelters each year. How a cat is handled within a shelter depends on the cats’ heath, handling, and housing. Disposition depends on how socialized the cats are, although many shelters are required to determine how socialized and comfortable the cats are with humans before adoption. Shelters are very stressful for cats, and can result in cats behaving in uncharacteristic ways. Cats that are highly socialized and adoptable often display aggressive or fearful behaviour when under stress. High stress levels peak when the cats are confined to a small cage in a shelter or household. Cats in households are usually free-roaming cats; they experience hazardous encounters outdoors, which cause stress levels to peak. It is also hypothesised that cats within a multi-cat household are more stressed, because they have nowhere to hide or run when spatial dispersion is unavailable. When a cat is overly stressed out, the cat can exhibit behaviours which include, vomiting, diarrhea, anorexia, and fever. Cats can also recognise the voices of their owners, which relates back to the 10,000-year history humans have with cats.
However bathing a dog requires, having to give it a bath or taking it to the groomers. A dog’s nail must be cut to keep them trimmed for proper care. Unlike cats who are self-sufficient at licking them self-clean. Cats also trim their own nails by using a scratching post.
