In today’s society, social media has become such a big part of our daily lives, affecting not only our “social” lives, but our works lives as well. Social media in the workplace can be a valuable tool for businesses but it can also cause serious problems on the job. Employers are faced with the need to develop social media policies that allow the company to secure the positive benefits of social media use while minimizing the negative effects. Problems occur when employees abuse the ability to have Internet access for personal use during work hours, post inappropriate things which negatively affects their online presence, or issues can easily arise in the hiring process. Cheryl Conner, a writer from Forbes Contributors, said, "Whether it’s web surfing, engaging in personal phone calls, searching for new job opportunities, gossiping by the water cooler, shopping online, exploring social networks or checking personal email, a great deal of working time slips away. Of all workplace distractions, the Internet is the greatest productivity drain" (Conner). Allowing employees to access social media profiles during work hours can be a distraction and take away valuable time from work related tasks. Employees may lose this work time playing games, talking to friends or updating their own personal profiles on their social media accounts. To keep employees away from the distraction of social media while on the job, many companies have chosen to implement a social media policy to limit the use of the Internet and social media for things unrelated to their job. However, these policies are difficult to enforce if employees are allowed to use their personal cellphones or bring their own laptops to the workplace. Baseball remains today one of America’s most popular sports, and furthermore, baseball is one of America’s most successful forms of entertainment. As a result, Baseball is an economic being of its own. However, the sustainability of any professional sport organization depends directly on its economic capabilities. For example, in Baseball, all revenue is a product of the fans reaction to ticket prices, advertisements, television contracts, etc. During the devastating Great Depression in 1929, the fans of baseball experienced fiscal suffering. The appeal of baseball declined as more and more people were trying to make enough money to live. There was a significant drop in attention, attendance, and enjoyment. Although baseball’s vitality might have seemed threatened by the overwhelming Great Depression, the baseball community modernized their sport by implementing new changes that resulted in the game’s survival.

When it comes to ticket prices there are many factors that can affect the price per ticket. In this review there are three main categories that are being focused on: (a) attendance, (b) pricing strategies and (c) ticket sales. Each category has different factors that affect ticket prices differently. In attendance, there was the economic crisis that started in late 2007. Strikes can happen at any time in professional sports. There is also the probability about the opposing team and its affect on ticket prices for those events. For pricing strategies, there are two main strategies that can be used for a professional sports team: (a) variable pricing and (b) dynamic pricing. The final factor discussed is the team’s decision process of setting ticket prices. There are four main areas that are being reviewed for ticket sales: (a) tactics used to increase ticket sales, (b) team owners’ role, (c) second hand ticket markets, and (d) price inelasticity. This review will show substantial evidence in each category that affects ticket prices for professional sports in America.
Unfortunately, baseball has become more concerned about profit and less about winning percentage pennants won. It's good there is still fans in the country that ignore all the economics about baseball and just love to watch the game being played. Media has played the biggest part in exposing baseball and making it more of a business then it should be. Baseball is a growing business in the 21st century and it can only expand. The economics of baseball is not that noticeable, if it is ignored and there is more focus on winning and losing. Hopefully, people realize this and won't help Major League Baseball go down the tubes.
