My name, Nicole, is derived from the word for "victory" in Greek. Although I feel I do have a distinct purpose in life, I have never referred to my name's meaning in order to know it or remember it. Malidoma means "be friends with the stranger/enemy" in the Dagara language and this is Malidoma's mission in life. He told the elders of his identity and purpose on Earth when he was a soul taking on human form in his mother's womb. On the third day after his birth, Malidoma was named as such because it is a constant reminder of his purpose. Malidoma had to tell the West (the stranger/enemy) of his people. Some people think the swastika, a cross with four arms of equal length, with the ends of each arm bent at a right angle, was created by Nazi Germany, but it wasn’t. The swastika is actually an ancient symbol that is used in Hinduism, Buddhism, and Jainism. In the Western part of world, the swastika since the 1930’s has mostly been associated with the infamous flag of Nazi Germany and the Nazi Party. The swastika was also created 5,000 years before it was used by the Nazi Party, and the symbol represents “good fortune.”

Pocahontas grew up as one of her father’s favorite children although she didn’t live a carefree life as many people think princesses do. Pocahontas learned how to forage for food, and and build houses to help contribute to her tribe. Like many Algonquian-speaking Virginia Indians of the period, Pocahontas most likely had several names, for use in various contexts. It is said that early in her life she was called Matoaka, but later was known as Amonute. The name Pocahontas was used in childhood as a nickname, which meant “playful one”, this was mostly likely in a casual or family context. Pocahontas met a man from the Jamestown civilization named John Smith, after she saved his life from execution. As Pocahontas was only 12 years old she became a frequent visitor at Jamestown, finding that John Smith was someone that she
The swastika was far from being Hitler's own invention. It originated in primitive cultures when people noticed that the big dipper rotated around the North Star. This rotation formed the pattern of a swastika when charted four times a year, that is, every thirteen weeks. The implication is that "the swastika may have been primarily and generally employed by primitive races as a sign for a year or cycle" (Nuttall,19). There were many cultures all over the ancient world using the swastika as a symbol. In Scandinavian countries it symbolized "the turning wheel which in the Bronze Age was connected with the god of the sky" (Davidson, 67). Thor, the god of the sky, drove his wagon across the heavens creating thunder and lightning (Gelling, 143). Thor is also associated with maintenance of the turning of the seasons (Davidson, 72). To honor him, ancient pagans decorated their swords and spears with the swastika (Gelling, 148-9). Different cultures obviously had different meanings attached to this symbol. A coin from Syracuse, now located in the British Museum Collection, had a swastika stamped on it. In the middle of the swastika was a human head. This was interpreted as "the image of a state and its single central ruler" (Nuttall, 459). Regardless of the symbolism of variations in th...

Unlike Grendel, she receives has no name of her own, she is simply referred to as Grendel’s mother. If Grendel is descended from the line of Cain, then his mother must be a part of that descent, his status, therefore, is in some ways dependent on hers (Slusser). Grendel 's mother is not as powerful Grendel, but she is motivated by revenge after finding out what the had been done to her son. She set out on a “savage journey” grief racked and ravenous, desperate for revenge (Beowulf, lines 1276-1278) She head out for the mead-hall looking to take her anger out on the people who killed her son. She manages to kill one of many men but leaves when she sees the strength of the men at the hall. Beowulf follows her and is determined to kill her, doing this results in him becoming the invader into her hall just as Grendel and her where in Heorot. Here Grendel’s mother fights back when Beowulf attacks her, however not being as string as Grendel, she also ends up being killed (Beowulf,
Agape is the highest of the four types of love in the Bible. This term defines God’s immeasurable, incomparable love for humankind. It is the divine love that comes from God. Jesus Christ demonstrated this kind of love in its highest form (Zavada 2017). Many people may feel they show true Agape, but when it becomes terrifying they will stay away from this kind of love; however, it may come from meeting a stranger for the first time. Unfortunately, you don’t count your true friends until you find those who will show you Agape as it is believed Christ showed to his Father in Heaven. The true love between friends and family members usually ends at the level of Philia or Storge and only few will generate into Agape. For one to proclaim Agape without being misinterpreted, one needs to first show another love called Philautia, a Greek word for Self-love. Absolutely, you cannot share what you do not have. If you do not love yourself, you cannot love anyone else either. The only way to be content is to find that unconditional love within you. Only once you learn to love and understand yourself, will you be ready to search for the spiritual freedom of the Self (Sol
The Vedas, which are the oldest written tradition in India, (2,000 - 600 B.C.) were written largely by the Indo-European invaders of India, known as the Aryans. (The correct spelling is cakra, though pronounced with a ch as in church.) The word was also a metaphor for the sun, which "traverses the world like the triumphant chariot of a cakravartin." (ruler) and denotes the eternal cycle of time called the kalacakra, or wheel of time. In this way, it represents celestial order and balance.
