The Infamous Swastika
Phase 1
World War 2 was a very historic and dangerous moment in time that costed millions of lives. This global war began when Adolf Hitler and Nazi Germany invaded Poland in 1939. Nazi Germany at the time had major goals that needed to be met, like having complete world order, and wiping out every single race other than a pure Aryan bloodline. In order to reach this goal, Nazi Germany tried to take over countries, and they also committed mass genocide to the Jewish people.
Some people think the swastika, a cross with four arms of equal length, with the ends of each arm bent at a right angle, was created by Nazi Germany, but it wasn’t. The swastika is actually an ancient symbol that is used in Hinduism, Buddhism, and Jainism. In the Western part of world, the swastika since the 1930’s has mostly been associated with the infamous flag of Nazi Germany and the Nazi Party. The swastika was also created 5,000 years before it was used by the Nazi Party, and the symbol represents “good fortune.”
What I want to know about the swastika is why many people think negatively about the swastika. I also want to know why Adolf Hitler used the swastika symbol in his Nazi Party, and what

motivated him to used it. The swastika, in my opinion, was probably used as propaganda during World War 2 as to show other people that the Nazi Party had good fortune. I imagine that Hitler using the swastika could’ve made people join the Nazi Party to become a very powerful political party during the war. I also imagine that Adolf Hitler's goals were mainly based off the swastika to influence other people apart of the Nazi Party. The swastika was used to frighten the Jewish people and others when one was seen, but it doesn’t make sense due to the fact that the swastika actually representing something positive, but the way Germany used it is negative. I can only imagine that the swastika was used for political purposes that contributed to World War 2. Phase 2 I chose this topic because I’m currently reading a book that mostly takes place during World War 2, and the title of the book is called MAUS. To add, the graphic novel was published by Art Spiegelman. To continue, the flag that represented the Nazi Party during the second World War had a swastika on it. The motive for me to write this I-Search research assignment is for me to find out more about the swastika. More specifically, why the Nazi Party used the swastika. I hope to learn about the history of the swastika, and who invented or created this infamous symbol of “good fortune.” I also hope to find out why the swastika is hated and feared by many people because the swastika stands, or represents, for something positive and not negative. To continue, it would be great to also find out when and where Adolf Hitler found a swastika that inspired him to use it in the Nazi Party. Phase 3 Some people think the swastika was created by Nazi Germany at the start of World War 2.
In this I-Search research report, I will attempt to show that the Swastika was not created by the Nazi party. The expected outcome of the research is to prove that the Swastika originates from Hinduism, Buddhism, and Jainism. Some things that I might discover along the way during my research might be where the Swastika first appeared, why the swastika is hated by millions of people, why Adolf Hitler used the swastika in his campaign to become powerful, why the swastika is important, and what inspired Adolf Hitler and the Nazi Party to implement it as their flag. I also predict that I will find some war footage of World War 2 and Adolf
Hitler. When someone looks at a swastika, they think about Nazi Germany, unless that person’s religion is either Hinduism, Buddhism, and Jainism. In Buddhism, the swastika Indian name comes the Sanskrit word svasti, meaning good fortune, luck and well being; sometimes, dots may be added in between each arm (1). In Hinduism, the right-hand (clockwise) swastika is a symbol of the sun and the god Vishnu, while the left-hand (counterclockwise) swastika represents Kali and magic. Again in 1933, Richard Plant, a gay German Jew, fled to Switzerland and to the United States five years later, began his research when he visited Germany in the 1950’s. His book, The Pink Triangle, is the first comprehensive account of this hidden aspect of Nazism and use of The Star of David and, nevertheless, the Pink
Through this dramatic irony Orwell is trying to picture to the audience the selfishness of the pigs, and so criticizing the selfishness of Stalin and the leaders of the Russian Revolution. The selfishness of totalitaristic leaders is also depicted in V for Vendetta. James McTeigue draws this idea into V for Vendetta through allusions to the Nazi Party and Hitler. This allusion is established throughout the film, with direct representations, such as the close up of the Nazi flag in Gordons house and through the symbolism of the finger men logo which vaguely resembles the swastika. Allusions to Hitler are also drawn straight from Sutler himself. The rhyming of Hitler and Sutler as well as during flashbacks of
During World War II propaganda was ubiquitous. It consisted of a wide range of carriers including leaflets, radio, television, and most importantly posters. Posters were used based on their appeal: they were colorful, creative, concise, and mentally stimulating. Posters often portrayed the artist's views on the war. They demonstrated the artist concern for the war, their hopes for the war, and reflected the way enemies were envisioned. Posters also show a nations political status: they reflect a nations allies and enemies, how the nation saw itself, and its greatest hopes and fears of the war.
After World War I, there was a spiritual void left within the people of Germany. The outcome of the war had ripped the German society along the class lines causing great stress and tension among the people. The people of Germany had believed all along that they were winning the war, and therefore the news of surrender came as a great shock to them. To make things worse, the peace treaty established placed the entire fault of the war on Germany and left them responsible for paying for the costs of the war for all who were involved. This sparked a conflict between the middle and working classes in society. Then, the depression followed, creating even more unhappiness among the people. With all of this unhappiness because of the class divisions and the depression, the Nazi...
World War II was not only started by Adolf Hitler and Germany, but had a lot to do with the humiliation that Germany felt when the terms of the Treaty of Versailles were laid down. The harsh terms of the Treaty of Versailles may be indirectly related to the cause of World War II, but nonetheless was a huge factor in starting the war.
A light appears to illuminate another eagle clutching a swastika. Then camera switches to an ocean of uniformed Nazi men standing at attention for the speech given by the congress. The opening speaker is Rudolf Hess. The use of swastikas and Nazi standers is constant and they are abundant. Throughout the speech, regardless of speaker, the message is that Germany will rise to being a prosperous nation with proud citizens. The German citizens will have their civil rights safeguarded by the Nazis. Goebbels ensures that the Nazi power will be strengthened by the hearts of its citizens.
World War II began in 1939 when the German armies decided to invade parts of Europe, therefore causing Europeans to retaliate against the Germans (World War 1). World War II began because those countries which were defeated in World War I (Germany, Italy, and Japan) were greatly devastated by the loss. Their countries were suffering from economical problems and were also left in bad conditions after World War I. They had lost much territory and now were practically in debt for the damages which they had done during the war (1). These countries figured that the only way for them to get out of economic depression and revive their country was to take land from other countries, which was one of the reasons why the war began.
The Nazi Party, controlled by Adolf Hitler, ruled Germany from 1933 to 1945. In 1933, Hitler became the Chancellor of Germany and the Nazi government began to take over. Hitler became a very influential speaker and attracted new members to his party by blaming Jews for Germany’s problems and developed a concept of a “master race.” The Nazis believed that Germans were “racially superior” and that the Jewish people were a threat to the German racial community and also targeted other groups because of their “perceived racial inferiority” such as Gypsies, disabled persons, Polish people and Russians as well as many others. In 1938, Jewish people were banned from public places in Germany and many were sent to concentration camps where they were either murdered or forced to work. Many individuals and groups attempted to resist Nazism in Germany, but were unsuccessful. The White Rose, The Red Orchestra and the Kreisau Circle all advocated non-violent resistance to oppose the Nazi regime and even with the high risk of getting caught and potentially killed, the courageous members of these groups went after what they believed was right despite the serious consequences.
When you think of a salute, you think of the American salute, which symbolizes respect. There is one salute that everyone knows and hates and it is called the “Nazi Salute”.. This certain salute has haunted both Germany and the World since 1933. Have you ever heard of the Nazi Party? Adolf Hitler was the leader of that group. The salute can be performed at any time and by anyone. If Hitler was present, the salute was given with “Heil Hitler”. It was also given by postmen, department store clerks and was taught to children as they entered into kindergarten. . Today, a Nazi Salute is one of the most horrible gestures a human can ever do.
In the foreground, the route that Anja and Vladek are following is illustrated. The path is in the shape of a swastika, which symbolizes the Nazi’s power. It can also imply the fact that no matter where Vladek and Anja travel, they will always be in danger due to their Jewish faith. Shading is being used as well to emphasize the swastika shape and highlight the severity of the Nazi regime.
Immediately you realize the flag represents a group called the Ku Klux Klan, and based on your knowledge “the KKK is a secret organization of White Protestant Americans, mainly in the South, who use violence against Black people, Jewish people, and other minority
“Why is propaganda so much more successful when it stirs up hatred than when it tries to stir up a little friendly feeling?” (Russel). September 1st 1939 the brutal World War II was just beginning. (When did WWII start). This war was the start of many racial slurs that carried decades into the future. The Nazis knew propaganda was a very strong and reliable way to persuade people to understand and support their views, and soon enough it would help them change the course of history.
World War II was one of the deadliest wars we know of in history, with as many as sixty million casualties, most of whom were civilians. It impacted a lot of countries, almost all over the world, which is why the name is given. This war impacted many countries in the world, and damaged almost all of the countries involved greatly. It also led to the downfall of Western European countries as world powers, leaving it to the Soviet Union, and the United States. The war started in 1939 and ended in 1945, with the invasion of Poland and the Axis surrender, respectively.
World War II was a global war that lasted from 1939 to 1945. It included the Holocaust, bombs, starvation, disease, and nuclear weapons. Thus naming World War II as the deadliest conflict in human history. Shortly after, the United Nations was formed to maintain world peace.
WW2 was one of the bloodiest wars ever. Hitler was the one who started it all with an invasion on Poland. Hitler was a dictator and wanted to conquer all of Europe. But Hitler could be defeated. The Germans surrendered on May 7, 1945.
