After analyzing both the memorandum and speech, it is clear that the memorandum is best supported because he demonstrates that etextbooks are less expensive and technology cuts down on learning time. First, etextbooks are less expensive. Dr. Akua Adu states “A 2012 report from the federal communication commission, etextbooks cost 50-60% less than regular textbooks.” A large amount of money is spent on textbooks each year for the students. Also, they can reuse textbooks for several semesters because the core information remains the same from edition to edition, eliminating the need to constantly replace the stock with every new edition. Students would be held responsible for the condition of their assigned book, and will also be given the option of keeping it at the end of the semester. In either case, the school has options in place to recover the cost of the textbook should a student destroy or decide to keep a specific book. By implementing such a program, students at the University of Delaware will be less inclined to resort to illegal measures to save money, and they will certainly be less likely to incur even more debt as the cost of college tuition continues to rise.

Through connection and communication, work ethic has improved in schools especially when a student’s score means a lot to school funding. The old ways of using textbooks can cause back pain when carrying it around everywhere and kill trees when making them. With new editions of a textbook being published it creates more worry for schools since it can cost a fortune to buy each book for classrooms to stay updated to the newest information.
The pros of this agreement is that it would help student acquire the book without struggling with the high price; in addition, it may incentive other students to take the course. Another alternative is to allow the universities bookstore to resell the used book at a lower price, so students can afford it. Using this alternative the company would be minimizing cost by printing less books, and at the same time more books are going to be in the market, the new ones and the used ones, giving students the opportunity to make a choice and improving market efficiency. As an additional alternative, Eastlane could use (technology) product development techniques to create an e-book. This alternative would benefit the publisher by saving money on printing, storage and transportation of books. In the same way, it will allow students to buy the book at a lower price. In the long run, all these alternatives would help the company develop a more efficient market strategy resulting in sales growth and profit increase. Some of the disadvantages of these alternatives in the short run could be a decrease in profit due to universities bookstore selling used books at a lower price, many students would prefer to buy the book used and save some money. Also, by allowing students to access the book through the website the professors created or the e-book, Eastlane poses the risk of people copying and selling the files to other students or possible costumers, so it is important to protects the publisher’s rights by securing the e-book and its files. Overall, these alternatives would force the publisher to lower the book price since it would cost them less to have an online version rather than a hard copy
In the readings of Everything’s an Argument, Per the text, “ …eliminating physical books from college campuses would be a positive step for our 21st century students...” (14). I must disagree with the idea that all eliminating paper course materials would be a step forward for future students. Personally, I like having paper books and other course materials because I enjoy the break from electronics. When a person reads on electronics consistently, it can damage their eyes or cause other health for the students.
Ogochukwu Vera Nnakwe is a devoted Christian who started serving and seeking God right from her childhood. She loves children so much and this is why at a very young age, she visits the orphanage every week to help the mother less babies. She would baby sit those babies, cook and feed them, wash their clothings and help out as much as she could in any way possible. She also has served in children’s ministry for years and has held different positions including as the president of the ministry. Ogochukwu believe strongly that children are like seeds that are growing and need to be watered every day and channel to grow in the right direction.
Although the internet has an infinite amount of helpful resources to aid a student in class success, and the professors will give students helpful tools to assist the student in achieving academic success, the presence of textbooks and their vital role in a student’s academic life has not been suppressed. Textbooks made for specific courses are created to help the student learn more about the standards being taught and to educate the student on the course’s content. Not only does the textbook help the student but it also helps the professor. When students own textbooks, professors can lead discussions and lessons with textbooks, direct students to specific chapters or pages in the textbook to help the student study for the content that is being discussed in class, and the class instructor can give assignments out of the textbook to see if the student is succeeding in understanding the content being taught. Even though textbooks play a vital role in a student’s class success and possibly an easier way for instructors to teach their students, the high cost of textbooks is the factor that prevents students from collecting these resources for their courses.

The Open Textbook, Affordable Textbook Act, and book store rentals are wonderful programs, but has its disadvantages that hopefully would be resolved in the 2016 presidential elections. The statistics show that many students across the nation benefit from learning with quality of teaching, the amount of accessibility it provides without having to worry about paying off student loans. School administrations should consider about transferring to an act that would benefit both the school and the students, but also provide more equality to the publishers and students.

In fact, a few schools around the country have already replaced textbooks with tablets and have seen improvements in students’ standardized test scores. Using tablets instead of textbooks is not only convenient and helpful, but it can also reduce the amount of paper wastes in school.
