Introduction
Nowadays, technology advancement creates so many things that we never thought. One of the magnificent human made is electronic book which known as e-book. This technology seems to be against their tradition way of reading in human history. E-book according to A new English Dictionary on Historical Principle (1989) is an electronic version of printed book which only can be read and handle by personal computer or a device which is designed from the purpose. While searchmobilecomputing.com (2000, November 8) defines that e-book is a tradition printed book but in electronic version that can only be read by e-reader. Apart from e-reader such as iLiad, computer and some mobile phones can also be used to read the e-book.E-book can be downloaded easily on the internet. Usually, it takes five minutes or less.
Positive impacts of e-book
According to Sasson (2005), there are many positive impacts of e-book. One of them is environmentally friendly. Compare to printed books which consume a lot of paper pulp which used up many woods, e-books do not required any papers which could save more trees and as well keep the environment to continue green. Furthermore, e-books can also be printed too. For those people who prefer to use traditional way to read books, they can easily print them with home printer or simply to go printing station nearby.
E-books also give benefits to publishers as well. Due to rapid advancement of communication technology nowadays, they can easily distribute through the internet.(Sasson, 2005) We also can get the books easily same as they were distributed. Thus, you do not need to waste up you time by driving your vehicle or searching for buses or taxis only to look up for books. It is very convenient and ...

Conclusion
Many articles approved that e-book give a lot benefits to our daily life. It helps us to improve our lifestyle. Before the creation of e-book, you may have difficulties to fill your time by reading especially when you are in inappropriate place such as crowded bus. Now, your problem is solved. Some people do not like this change of reading style. They think it will cause a problem that never have been arouse before. For example, e-book will put a lot of people out of work due to the closing of bookstore. (Wharris, 2010) Yet, we can figure out something to solve this problem rather than not facing it all. We should implement this change in all sectors especially in education. Perhaps, we should change the traditional printed textbooks to e-book textbook.
In addition, textbooks are heavy to carry around and it takes longer to find a page. Likewise with digital textbooks they are compatible with tablets, smartphones, and laptops; it’s much easier to carry around and affordable price. However, some people may argue that digital textbooks can be a distraction for people because they would not bother read anymore. The author and poet Dana Gioia argues that electronics alternatives may be a bad influence that will lead society to not read anymore. Gioia complicates matters further when she writes, “While no single activity is responsible for the decline in reading, the cumulative presence and availability of electronic alternatives increasingly have drawn Americans away from reading” (161). I think Gioia is mistaken because she overlooks on electronics being a bad influence; but doesn’t see the benefits of electronics. To demonstrate, most of my textbooks are digital, which I can easily carry my tablet around where ever I go. Also, I save more money on digital textbooks and are simple to annotated the text. Journalist Ellen Lee interview a student from Liberty University, and he states that he prefers digital textbooks because he can tap his iPad, opens the digital copy and quickly open the page. Nevertheless, he also like digital textbooks because it has a feature that allows to highlight and mark the
This source considers the issue of converting to digital books, specifically as it pertains to the effect that this change would have on the global environment. Although the research does recognize that there are disadvantages to not having a physical copy of a book and to abandoning certain platforms that do not transfer well to a digital form, overall, these researchers conclude that publishers should move towards digital products not only for the sake of cheaper long-run costs, but also for the good that going paperless can do for the environment. By displaying a series of graphs, as well as including multiple data sets, the text explains how e-books compare with printed texts; then, analysis of these facts is also included to show the reader the authors’ point.
Reading printed books have many benefits to it. A piece of evidence that can related to this is that “the book is the oldest technology, we say. Look! It doesn’t even have batteries! (Gatward) This quote can lead to a result of having no worries when reading a printed book, with many benefits to it. For example if you were outside and you wanted to read a book you would have no problem reading, but if you were reading it online you might of need internet in order to read it, but not in printed book. Also printed books will not harm your eyes but online books on computer, phones can and doctor have said that we should limited the amount of screen. Another quote is that “reading printed books before bed can helps you fall asleep faster”. (Garward) From my sources I have found out reading printed books can reduce cortisol level and you will be able to concentrate better. This way,you are able to live a healthy life without any problems in
Writer, Anna Quindlen, in her argumentative essay, “Reading Has a Strong Future.” Informs how the introduction of E-Readers is changing the perspective many have towards physical books. Quindlen’s purpose is to convey the idea written books are a thing of the past, is inaccurate and that while they will continue to thrive, E-readers are reaching people in far more communicative ways. Quindlen effectively creates not only an emotional response within her audience by building an argument, drawing statistics to increase her credibility, and involving the audience which consists of American readers.
Even though online sales and electronic books are becoming increasingly popular, printed books are still the preference of most consumers within the market according to The New York Times.(8) Due to this fact, the raw materials sector is stable and relations with the suppliers and book publishers are
First, you must learn to read. Then, you must read to learn. Reading and writing has been and will always be a vital influence in my life. The two articles I read were, “Brandon Sanderson on Why We Still Read Books In the Internet Era,” posted by Emma Chastain and, “I Am Writing Blindly,” by Roger Rosenblatt. These two articles resonated to me because of my love for technology and interest in human psychology. Without my passion of these two topics, I would not be able to be my creative, imaginative self.
Laptops are significantly more Eco friendly. The number of trees cut down annually for the production of books sold in the U.S. was estimated at 30 million in 2008. That is a ridiculous amount of trees to go into something with such an easy alternative. Replacing textbooks would not only benefit the students, but they would have a huge effect on the environment.
We are in the digital age. Along with all the other innovative technology of the 21st century, a competitor for the classic paper book has emerged: the eReader. The paper book, which was the monopoly for reading material since its invention, has most likely met its match. With a capacity of hundreds of books in devices that can be pencil thin, the eReaders are slowly dominating the market. Whichever product comes out on top is up to the consumers’ decision.
The advantages of E-books are clear. They provide the reader with a cost effective way to purchase and read books. In addition to that I found an article from WSJ by Steve Johnson that stated “E-books would likely change the way we read, write and sell books in profound ways” (Johnson). This statement is entirely accurate, because we are currently living through the transition to the digital form of publishing. Besides being cost effective E-books have many other advantages compared to traditional books. E-books have made a big impact in the lives of students. E-books being cheaper than traditional books is the single biggest reason for students to take advantage of them. Alongside that students are able ...
However, iIn spite of the current pre-eminence of e-books, it may be argued that they are not likely to replace print books anytime soon or possibly at all. Both formats have their advantages and drawbacks, which makes for one of them difficult to replace the other. Moreover, they serve differents needs and purposes. E-books are famous for their portability. Hundreds of e-books can be stored on a single device. Thus e-books don’t take shelving space and are convenient to take on travel, while even a few paper books are bulky and quite heavy to carry around. Numerous e-books are in open access, while paper books are not routinely available free of charge. E-books may be acquired and accessed immediately online, a feature I enjoy especially and treasure most: many a time I was able to buy and read an e-book at home within minutes of learning of its existence. Needless to say, e-books are considerably easier to cite and quote than print books, since the copy-paste feature spares us the trouble of retyping the quoted text. Another important advantage of digital books is their specialized software, which makes reading much easier: search and reference tools, changeable font size and day/night mode, dictionaries. Last but not least, e-books conserv...
A book which is the crystallization of human wisdom is a medium product for getting knowledge. With development of the technology, a book is not only the traditional paper book but also the electronic book which is spreading frequently in human’s lives. Some people prefer using print books, but some people are interesting in electronic books. Different people have different opinions. There are many factors to consider when discussing the matter of electronic book vs printed book, but ultimately, it boils down to the reader’s preference. We are interesting to know which one is better printed book or electronic book, and the reasons.
Getting educated is one of the most important things in life when it comes to getting a good future. By developing good knowledge of schooling, it helps establish and maintain new information as needed throughout the real world. As books are one the essential tools in learning, eBooks are being used in a everyday lifestyle. Traveling to get away places from city life, helps give reading a comforting feel. Students that use print books are eventually going to use ebooks in the future. By educating students with ebooks, it is more efficient than carrying textbooks; ebooks is more convenient and reliable to read, write and store notes. Print books are being replaced by eBooks, it helps on keeping files together and it makes notes
To conclude, there are many distinguished advantages that e-books have over traditional paper books, as e-books are lightweight, portable and hence convenient to carry, have greater update capacity, have greater storage capacity, easily accessible through online downloading as well as being environmental friendly (with saving trees). With ongoing technological development of ebooks, there have since been many added functionality for ebooks (rotational screen, hyperlink, split screen) with even many more functionality to be developed in the near future.
Some years ago, with the arrival of digital technology, the process of reading has been changed to make it easier for everybody; therefore digital books are replacing the actual physical books. In spite of the fact that paper books and digital books are very similar in some ways, such as tittle pages, copyright page, covers, chapters or tables of contents; they present a visual and a sensory difference. In fact, they have a similar action that gives benefits but drawbacks at the same time. Paper books are tangible, accomplishment, easy to share; they have a unique aroma, and a sensitive side. But people should take in consideration that digital books are the better choice, because they are portable, convenient, cheap in price, and easy to manipulate, not to mention that anybody is able to have an bunch of them in only one file, either their phones or
Books are the oldest medium of communication. Book has been the largest surviving source of print media. Although modern technology and electronic media have greatly influenced the mindset of people, books are still referred as the most essential tool to gain knowledge and information. History recalls that education and learning reached towards every person after print media; especially after printing of books. Preservation of information, education and past events of history have been stored and known to us only because of the influencing and effective books.
