The book I read this month was The Maze Runner by James Dashner. The lexile of my book is 770 and it was published in the year of 2009. I decided to read this book this month because when I attended Blue Lake Fine Arts Camp my cabin counselor would read this book to us every night. We only finished half of the book and I wanted to finish it because it “hooked” me on because it had so much action in it.

The Maze Runner is about a teenage boy who wakes up in an elevator with no memory of his past, besides that he knows that his name is Thomas. When the elevator reaches to the top and the elevator doors open he gets pulled up by other teenage boys into the heart of a huge maze, called the Glade. In order to maintain order in the Glade, Alby and Newt (the leaders of the Glade) enforce strict rules. Each one of the Gladers’ have a job. They can be Runners, Builders, Sloppers, Baggers,Cooks, Map-makers, Med-jacks,Track-Hoes, or Blood Housers. Thomas is a Runner which means that everyday he has to run throughout the maze tracking the wall movements trying to find a way out or figure out the solution to the maze. The Runner’s have to track the wall movements because every night when the walls close and they move. One day after Thomas arrives in the Glade, a girl is lifted up from the elevator. The Gladers’ were perplexed because never in the entire two years that some of them have been here a girl was brought up from the elevator. However, unlike the boys, she begins to mumble gibberish and she falls into a coma. The Gladers’ have a theory that her arrival triggered something in the maze and that’s what caused the sun to disappear, the monthly supplies to stop coming,and the walls not closing, causing the lethal Grievers to enter and killing one Glader every night.
