In The Maze Runner there are main different themes but I feel that hope is one of the bigger ones would be bravery. In the Maze Runner Thomas shows the most bravery out of everyone and he’s pretty much the newest member. Many times throughout the story Thomas goes into dangerous situations to help others even if that means risking his own life. One of the forms of bravery in The Maze Runner is when Thomas saw Alby and Minho coming to the walls of the maze as it was closing and knew that they wouldn’t make it in time so he ran in even though he was risking his life “Thomas knew he had no choice. He moved. Forward. He squeezed past the connecting rods at the last second and stepped into the Maze. The walls slammed shut behind him, the echo of
its boom bouncing off the ivy-covered stone like mad laughter” (77).even though Thomas had a choice to run in or not he did anyway to save his friends lives which shows a big sign of bravery in the story. The news article that I have chosen also has a theme of bravery. In the news article it talks about how a 13 year old boy knocked a knife out of a burglars hand. This shows big signs of bravery because he knocked the knife out of the man’s hand to save his mother’s life even though he was risking his to do so. This act was so brave that the boy Dishant received the National Bravery Award. The connection between the news article and The Maze Runner is the theme of bravery, bravery was shown in both stories many times mainly by the acts that they did though. Both in The Maze Runner and the news article someone risks their own lives to save others (Friend,Family,Acquaintance etc…) which is how both stories are connected.
Are friends the best resources when in need? Yes, no? Well in these stories they are. Like in Harry Potter, he used his friends all the time like when he is wondering Voldemort is still really still alive who are the people that he comes to…his friends. Or in The Maze Runner Thomas when thomas is wondering about if he should go out in the maze and face the greevier’s. Who are the people that he goes to...his friends! In these two stories Harry Potter and The Maze Runner there are some similarities, but there are also some differences.
People do not have to fly to be hero, it takes much more. Many heroes of today are shown to have supernatural powers that makes them acquire amazing abilities, flying, super strength, skills to manifest anything, the list goes on. Our heroes in the present time are perceived by the audiences' mindset to have special powers but there are times where being a hero does not need to have all the extra tricks. Thomas, a character in The Maze Runner is thrown unconsciously with no memory into a place of the unknown called the Glades, consisting of only teenagers inhabiting the area. He would soon find out the whole place is bordered by a big wall that closes by night and day to protect them from the maze that are filled with demonic machines that will kill on sight. This begins his adventure, eager to learn what is out there and willing to become a maze runner which is equivalent to being a tribute for the greater good in their little homemade society. Having powers might help to become a hero, but in the dystopian novel The Maze Runner, by James Dashner, his protagonist Thomas demonstrates the hero journey in a more natural way by crossing the threshold, meeting a mentor, and lastly having tests, allies and enemies.
It was cold, dark, and he had no idea what was going on all he can remember partially of his name. He had started hearing conspicuous noises. He then looked at the sides of the chained wall. He saw this terrifying creature, then jolted back as soon as he saw it. Everything had just stopped and the top of the room opened up. This guy had then jumped down and brought him up and said, “Day one greenie.” As soon as he got up he started to run. But after 5-10 seconds he then fell. The guy who brought him up told him, “As long as you’re here you’ll never run again.”
In the novel the maze runner teens get abducted and put in a camp that was surrounded by very tall concrete walls and metal doors. The metal doors would open for a short period of time and would open a passage that led to the maze and when the doors would start closing and the maze's path would start closing too , leaving the runners stranded in the maze.
“A Worn Path” told the story of an old woman named Phoenix Jackson. She had to make a long, adventurous journey to town in order to receive medicine for her grandson who had fallen ill. Phoenix Jackson was determined to reach her destination, and she did not let anything stand in her way. Throughout her voyage, she displayed characteristics of being brave, unselfish, and senile.
During the film Shawshank Redemption there is a very prominent theme of hope. Shawshank Redemption demonstrates positive and negative ways in which the main characters Andy, Brooks, Tommy and Red display hope. Through out the movie Frank Darabont gives us an insight to how each character connects to the theme of hope. Each character connects differently to hope. For example andy persevering through digging the tunnel, Red connects to hope by become friends with Andy, Tommy gets his high school diploma and finally Brook, although institutionalized became accustomed to being the librarian for many years of his life time in Shawshank prison
Many people have done things that they can’t seek redemption for or can’t forgive themselves for, such as not being there for a friend when they need you most. Including Amir, from The Kite Runner by Khaled Hosseini. Amir is best friends with Hassan, a Hazara boy. They grow up together, and Amir later finds out that they are half brothers. Hassan helps Amir, but he allows a boy, Assef, and his group of friends to rape Hassan, which he doesn’t think he’ll ever be able to forgive himself for. Amir is redeemed because he receives letters from Hassan, he adopts Sohrab, and fights Assef.
Runner’ is ‘Fear always wins’. The reader knows this through the characters thoughts and actions toward Hassan's rape, The Taliban and Farzana's beating.
Has anyone ever shown bravery in your life? Bravery is someone who’s not afraid to step up to the challenge, Like in the book The Hobbit Bilbo shows that quite a few times, and an article about a cop saving his partner. Bravery is someone who has courage and is not afraid of something others might be afraid of , anyone can be brave and it can happen when you least expect it.
Hey you, Yeah… YOU! Would you want to live in a society where you live in a box for your entire life, and mean absolutely nothing to the just about anyone? For science right? NOPE! Obviously, Societies fall as a result of a corrupt government, Failing Social Structure, and Sickness. It is due to these factors that many great societies such as Greece, Rome, and the society depicted in the book Maze Runner fall.
The Hobbit, by J. R. R. Tolkien shows the world that bravery is not something that comes with birth and background. It is something inside us all, and we just need to reach down and get it. Tolkien dives into this concept through Middle Earth, his fantasy land of elves, dwarves, dragons, goblins, and hobbits. The Shire is the beautiful, grassy home of Bilbo Baggins, a perfectly respectable hobbit in all manners. He leads an ordinary life where anything out of the ordinary is considered absurd. But then, one deciding day, the seasoned wizard Gandalf pays our hobbit Bilbo a visit. He brings tidings of the need of his help to go on an adventure in the east. Bilbo flat out refuses, but Gandalf has a surprise in store for him. A troop of
The themes of the loss of innocence and redemption is used throughout the novel The Kite Runner to make a point that one can lose innocence but never redeem it. Once innocence is lost it takes a part of oneself that can never be brought back from oblivion. One can try an entire life to redeem oneself but the part that is loss is permanently gone although the ache of it can be dampened with the passing of time and acts of attempted redemption. Khaled Hosseini uses characters, situations, and many different archetypes to make this point.

The book I chose is the maze runner. The first important thing that happens in this book is Thomas gets sent up to the glade. He discovers how the glade works and meets a lot of the people that have been sent to the glade just like him. During his 2nd day on the glade a girl is sent up. The very first girl to live in the glade and also the last person to be sent up the glade.
