The name of my book is ‘The mayor of Central park’. The story was written by Avi. The book is about city rats wanting to take over down town New York and the downtown baseball team. The reason why I choose this book for my book report is because it is about baseball and gives personification to animals. The theme of the book is, don’t be greedy and violence isn't an answer.
The story takes place in Central park, New York City, in the year 1900. In down town with lots of tall building, baseball fields, ponds, and people everywhere is where it goes down. Oscar Westerwit is the head coach for the Central Park Green Sox. There are also mobs here so u better watch your back at all times if you have money on you or you will get jumped. Never go down the ally ways at night because thats where to rat gangs hang out.

The main characters are Oscar Westerwit and Big Daddy Duds.
Oscar is the mayor of Central Park and Big Daddy Duds is the head honcho of the downtown rat gang. I find these character interesting because there smart, in charge and both of them like baseball. These to are the first two characters that pop in to my head when I think of the book because they are more interesting than the rest of the characters. In my opinion Oscar is my favorite character because he owns the downtown baseball team, and knows a lot about his town.
The main conflict is that Big Daddy Duds wants to take over the park and all of downtown. The thing is that Oscar the mayor of the park, doesn't like this idea so he tries to stop him. They get into a big fight with all Duds men and all of the baseball team. Right before they start fighting Oscar says there are 100 of y'all and 13 of us. Duds said then lets play baseball and who ever wins gets the park. The central park green sox won the baseball game because of arty Bigalow the fastest pitcher in the league. The theme of the book is, don’t be greedy and violence isn't an
answer. Overall the book was really good and kept making me want to read more. Some things I liked about the book are : it has baseball, and fighting in it. Things I didn’t like are that all the characters are animals and it doesn’t have as much baseball in it as I thought it would have. I would recommend this book for kids. It’s very interesting, funny and has a good moral.
First, the author uses conflict to show what the characters have to overcome throughout the course of the story, such as Mrs. Baker forcing Holling to do chores at school and
The book basically talks about two young boys both with the name Wes Moore, who grew up in Baltimore and in the same neighborhood but never knew of each others existence. This is until the author Wes Moore, the one who escaped his rough childhood in Baltimore and the Bronx, began meeting with the other Wes Moore and questioning him who is spending his life in prison because of attempted murder. The author Wes Moore who managed to escape his situation growing up had a much more supportive mother who moved him away from Baltimore and continued to push him to get an education. He lived in the Bronx for sometime with his grandparents and mother, and attended a well renowned school in the Bronx. His mother worked several jobs in order for him to
The film starts with an uprising after a white storeowner kills a black teenager. This incident Highlights Prejudices. The teenager was labeled a thief because of the color of his skin and the unjustifiable murder causes racial tensions that exist as a result of the integration of the high schools.
Despite all the rough patches Ray runs into on his journey, and his dream, he was successful in dealing with each conflict. Ray struggles to overcome conflicts, not only with himself but with society and person. In the end everything works out for Ray and he gets to build a baseball field to fulfill his unfulfilled dreams of the
history of black people in the South and America as a whole. The theme of race ties into the novel
Explain how the conflict arises and go on to discuss in detail how the writer uses it to explore an important theme.
To Begin, the first type of conflict going in the book, Shattered, is Human vs. Society. The individual involved is Ian, he is taking a stand and is fighting against society for all of the people living on the streets which have been treated like garbage. This conflict is due to poverty and the lack of respect for the people living on the streets. The society has no respect for people on the streets and consider them nothing other than garbage. This conflict relates to social justice because of the high poverty numbers, and injustice. Poverty is a very big social justice problem as it occurs almost everywhere in the world. I think the conflict would be resolved when Ian's voice reaches the government and they decide to take action. The government will need to stand up and stop the violence against poverty and lack of respect towards people with poverty. I think the conflict will be resolved with the use of government. The government should increase the taxes for the rich people and decrease the taxes for the poor people. The rich people w...
2) What is the main conflict in the book? Is it external or internal? How is this conflict resolved throughout the course of the book?
A message that really explains the movie in a sentence is every human is not perfect and each human has their own personal struggles that they will try to overcome. Boobie Miles thought he was perfect and he actually put a curse on himself and got injured right at the beginning. The primary theme in the film is the Underdogs don’t always win. We thought because they were underdogs they were going to win but they ended up losing. They still did put up a great fight. Some other themes are the impact of adults’ hopes and goals lived vicariously through their children. The most important theme of the novel involves the impact of adults’ hopes and goals lived vicariously through their children. The people of Odessa place an unmistaken spell on the shoulders of their sons to be champions every year so that the adults can take the triumph as their own. The result is that their children can never leave their triumphs and defeats of that short time behind. It follows them no matter what they make of their lives, and it is unfair that they must do so. The last important theme is that of misplaced priorities. The people of Odessa wouldn’t accept the fact that their obsession with football was impacting on the educational success of their children. Their need to have a winning season affected class time, homework, tests, and even whether school
O’BRIEN One major conflict within the book is obvious (to me anyways). Steve is accused of murder and could possibly have a life sentence. This conflict is external (character vs. character) and Steve (protagonist) is fighting against those who are accusing him (Bobo, The State, Petrocelli etc.) they are the antagonists of the game. “.It was me who wasn’t sure, it was me who lay on the cot wondering if I was fooling myself”- PG.148 STEVE.
I think the first major aspect you get is idea of the riot. He goes into great length talking about various riots that happened all throughout the nation. However, from reading it they all seemed to go down the same line. The riots are not like we typically think of but they are for the same reason. In the books, perspective the killing of a black mostly started these riots. Black people would then retaliate by rioting. This theme was recurrent. Usually the papers or word of mouth instigated the riot. Reason for this being an interesting aspect is the perception of the riots. When whites rioted, it was to protect dignity and to do the right thing. They had a so-called legit moral purpose for their actions. As Tuttle states blacks rioting were often seen as ruthless and they are depicted as animals and should be dealt with. This difference in depiction was interesting to me. I guess it would lie in the mindset of the people of those prevailing times.
The first character that intrigued me, probably because I could relate to him the most was Andrew, the "jock." A jock is the group of people that are athletically inclined and are usually part of a sports team. When all the students were confessing what they had done he seemed the most regretful of his actions. Andrew being a great wrestler at school saw an unsuspecting teammate that was much smaller than he was and decided to jump on him and start beating up on him. What made his case so extreme was that not only did beat up on his teammate but he taped his butt cheeks together. The perception that I, as well as the members of the breakfast club, had of Andrew was that he couldn't think for himself. He also thought the same thing because he said that he felt pressured by his dad to do something mischievous because he (his dad) used to get into mischievous acts often while he was in high school. So while he was looking at his smaller teammate he said that all he could here was his father telling him about being a winner and doing so many unnecessary things just because he was an exceptional athlete. When Andrew told his story it seemed that all the other people were going to cry because they could see that he regretted doing what he did.
This movie takes place in Los Angeles and is about racial conflicts within a group of people which occur in a series of events. Since there are a wide variety of characters in this movie, it can be confusing to the viewer. In the plot, Graham is an African-American detective whose younger brother is a criminal. His mother cares more about his brother than Graham and she wants Graham to bring his brother back home, which in turn hurts Graham. Graham?s partner Ria is a Hispanic woman who comes to find that her and Graham?s ethnicities conflict when she had sex with him. Rick is the Los Angeles district attorney who is also op...
