Have you ever been basically not good at sports? Sounds very hard? But, in the story, “The Marble Champ,” the main character, Rachel, is just about that way. But then when she finds the sport marbles everything changes. The story is clear that Rachel practices all the time and is very motivated. Also three reason is Rachel wasn't good at sports, also Rachel was very motivated, and Rachel practiced a lot before the tournament. Well in this story it is clear that the theme of the story is, it is important to not give up on sports. First of all, it is important not to give up on sports, first Rachel she wasn't good at sports. For example when they played soccer she scored a goal for the other team and gave them a point. Another example
is when she went to go swimming all that she could do was walk on the outside of the pool because she could not swim. Also when she went roller skating the only way she could do it was holding her dad's hands, But then towards the end of the story Rachel got good at marbles. This means that Rachel wasn’t good at sports because on basically all the sports she needed help on. Another reason is, it is important to not give up on things, Rachel practiced before the tournament. First of all she squashed a eraser 100 times to strengthen her thumbs. Also after school she practiced three hours straight. Also when Rachel showed up for the tournament Rachel showed up with her thumb in a bandage from all the practice she has done and everyone was amazed. This shows that Rachel worked a lot for the tournament. Finale it is important to not give up on things, Rachel worked hard and was very motivated. First to practice Rachel would do twenty push-ups on her fingers. Second she practiced striking marbles. Then in the story it side, “I tried my best to win and i did.” Therefore, this means that she is very motivated to marbles. As you can see, One of the themes in, “The Marble Champ,” it is important to not give up on sports. You dont just give up on the sport, then you end up not being good at it.But in we learn from the story that Rachel did that alot , but when she didnt give up on marbles and she practiced alot and then she won. You never know how good you can be without not giving up.
A huge part of the story showed how a person could overcome all the odds to become successful is feats such as sports and other activities. Most sports champions show great endurance to win many competitions. Similarly, Hillenbrand indicated that Louis, a competitive runner, trained until “he (had) rubbed the skin right off one of his toes, (leaving) his sock bloody” (Hillenbrand 23). As a result of all the hard work, Louis overcome struggles such as a bleeding shin, broken ribs, and a damaged toe to set time records for many races. In my experiences, I see many people take sports and other extra-curricular activities as a burden without embracing the challenges. In contrast, Louis illustrates the rare athlete and human being who seeks solutions to
story but also to show Rachel’s feelings throughout the story. As Rachel talks about her
Everyone should alway try. No person should ever stop trying. Even when something is hard that does not mean we should stop trying. It is not good to give in just because it does not work the first time or we can not find the right way. In “The Marble Champ,” by Gary Soto, Lupe Medrano the main character, has a very hard time with sports. She is not good at any of them. The theme in The Marble Champ seen by Lupes experience is to always stay determined, and never give up. We see Lupe demonstrate this all throughout the story.
As I mentioned that this story is internal conflict because in this story we can see that how the main character use his mind by watching and learning. Especially the audience motivate him because every time he play they start to yell him, but they don’t see why he is doing so. Finally his hardworking work to win the
“It’s not whether you win or lose, it’s how you play the game” is a quote by Grantland Rice which suggests that winning is not important as long as one tries their best. In the movies “Chariots of Fire” and “Next Goal Wins”, the notion and meaning of sport is explored in both similar and dissimilar ways. Although “Chariots of Fire” and “Next Goal Wins” both follow the journey of sport and competition, the characters in the respective films show contradicting views on the idea that winning or losing sport is unimportant in light of the best effort.
Through the first half of the story we learn that the main character, Lupe is not athletic. Lupe is obviously not athletic, for example, she scored a goal on her own team when she played soccer. This girl you can tell is not one of those naturally talented sports born people. Further explained, Lupe can't run at all. I can tell that sports isn't her thing, because I mean everyone can run. Lastly she is no good at any sport. You can tell she is not a sports girl. All of these reasons show
Terry and Gabby moved to St. Petersburg, Florida and Terry enrolled Gabby into Keswick Christian school. At first, Gabby didn’t fit in and people made fun of her (Morgan 21). Gabby got her height from both of her parents, and she always was taller than most of her friends. Her height played a large roll in how she got into sports. She joined Keswick’s basketball and volleyball team (Gabrielle Reece 1). Gabby went to state championships her in her first season for basketball. She only played basketball for two seasons, but she didn’t see herself playing it in the future. However, Gabby played volleyball on both a school team and a club volleyball te...
Everyone wants to get better at something, but some want it more than others. In “How to Transform an Everyday, Ordinary Hoop Court into a Place of Higher Learning and You at the Podium”, the narrator wants to get better at basketball, so he wakes up everyday at 4:30 to go with his dad to his work. Everyday, the narrator would wait 3 hours in his dad’s car until the gym opened, only to sit on the bench and watch the other men play basketball. Finally, one of the best players, Dante, tells the narrator he can play but he’ll get “smoked”. However, the narrator proved him wrong. The narrator learns that if you persevere, work hard, and have confidence, your dreams may come true. In How to Transform an Everyday, Ordinary Hoop Court into a Place
As most athletes, who are dedicated to their sport, practice harder than athletes who just play sports for fun. However, there are disappointments in the sport. Many in which involve record holders (mostly in individual sports). Or some in which involve how state standings and/or championships are viewed. As stated by A.E. Housman, “The time you won your town the race we chaired you through the marketplace; man and boy stood cheering by, and home we brought you shoulder-high.” (Prentice Hall Literature [page 1092 lines 1-4]). As newer generations come into the sport, some are born with a gift unimaginable with great potential, people who set the school/state record cause a sadness in the record holder from the past.
I decided that I wanted to play a sport, I chose volleyball. Most of my friends played the sport so it wasn't hard for me to adjust and make new friends. Becoming a student athlete was a big adjustment for me, I could no longer float through my classes but I need to excel. And that's exactly what I did. For the first time in my high school career I made not only honor roll, but principal’s honor roll. For the first time my mom was proud of my report card, that made me even more proud. From then on I knew I wanted nothing less than what I earned, good grades and a proud family. From my decision to chose to become a student athlete not only make me work harder but, be great at everything I put my mind to. I had motivation to stay successful, to stay eligible. Three years ago if you were to ask me where I thought I would be my senior year, I probably would have told you low level classes barely making it by. Now here I am today excelling in my education preparing to take the next step in my future, college. Even if we don’t understand why we go through them, we have to be willing to let our obstacles become out
A woman had a fifteen year old daughter named Hannah who had been playing volleyball for practically her whole life. She was healthy, self confident and enjoyed learning. But ever since the new volleyball season started, her grades had been dropping. Hannah’s mom became very worried and made her quit, automatically assuming that spending too much time on sports was the cause of her failing grades. But even without her volleyball, Hannah’s grades continued to drop and she no longer seemed as happy or motivated to do well in school.
Challenges appear to be part of the human experience. In the course of history, very little has come easily. The progress that women have made in sport in the United States over the course of the last 100 years seems remarkable for the amount achieved in so little time. In relation to the other advances made in this century, including men's sport, that achievement dims. While women have made great advances, they haven't, in comparison, come that far. It would appear, from the outside, that men's sport will forever have all of the advantages, all of the rewards, all of the prestige, while women's sport is left to perpetual inequality.
The main goals behind Sport Education are to help students become knowledgeable about different sports and activities to the point where they can participate in these outside of the classroom to stay active. Also it teaches execution and strategies and encourages competitiveness. It is important for kids to be competitive because they will have to be in life and it will teach the importance of winning and losing the right way. “Sports offer kids a great chance to work cooperatively toward a common goal. And working coope...
One of the best representations I could give to someone would be a 93-year old man that almost made it to the Olympic USA table tennis team. Although he has been playing table tennis for 86 years and first started when he was 7 years old he still could not make it past the recreational level. You would think that after 86 years of playing the sport you love you would accomplish your dreams, sadly after all these years he still hasn’t made it to the Olympics, his ultimate dream. Now his dream will forever be left unaccomplished and be left for the next hopeful table tennis player. If this guy who was better than most by far with a crazy amount of dedication couldn’t make it, this just shows how hard it is to make it past the recreational
Success goes hand in hand with failure. “You win some, you lose some” is a famous quote which epitomises one of the main core’s of life as these two components are apart of every human being’s daily life. In the same way, they are a part of every sporting event. In life everyone strives for success, yet not always do we attain success instantly, often it requires many failures before success can be achieved. Humphrey asserts that sport ‘brings out the worst in people’, and yes, it is within failure where the worst is brought out of people as many people hate the feeling of failure. However, no matter what one fails at, they will always express their bad side, for example: when one fails at their job, when one fails their license and so on. Sports is the best opportunity for people to learn the benefits and necessity of failure, thus allowing their outlook on failure to be change which in turn corrects the behaviour that comes with failure. Sports also allows one to feel the sense of accomplishment that emanates with success. It therefore teaches the sportsmen how to cope better wit...
