In looking at journals for this research essay I originally searched physical therapy, because it is my degree plan and field of interest. The articles which began standing out to me, were the journals on the spine. The articles just on the spine alone were intriguing, but reading the articles on the lumbar spine really caught my attention. The spine is so complex and has so many things to it, but the main area that people have issues with is the lumbar part of the spine. The article which we will be discussing today will be “Efficiency Methods of Physical Therapy Rehabilitation of Osteochondrosis of The Lumbar Spine” by Annals of Mechnikov Institute.
In this article it states, “Low back pain is a disorder that affects in an acute, recurrent
Based on the findings presented, Dr. Green made the correct diagnosis in predicting that this gentleman had a spinal cord injury.

What is scoliosis? Scoliosis is a musculoskeletal disorder that causes the back to curve sideways like and “S” or a “C” and cause the body to lean to one side. Scoliosis can eventually if not looked into and not treated colid with your bodily organs like your heart, lungs, and kidneys. This can cause you to slump down into a hump and cause it hard to breath and do physical activity.
“The doctor of the future will give no medication, but will interest his patients in the care of the human frame, diet and in the cause and prevention of disease” by Thomas A. Edison. Chiropractors use hands-on spinal manipulation and other alternative treatments on the spine which will enable the body to heal itself without surgery or medication. Chiropractic care began in 1895 when its founder, Daniel David Palmer, claimed any and all diseases could be healed by nothing more than just his hands. Dr. Palmer examined a janitor who was deaf for 17 years after the janitor felt his back was out of place, so Dr. Palmer gave an adjustment to what was felt to be a misplaced vertebra in the upper back. The janitor then observed that his hearing improved thanks to Dr. Palmer. Chiropractors use manipulation to restore mobility to joints restricted by tissue injury caused by sitting without proper back support. Chiropractic is primarily used as a pain relief alternative for muscles, joints, bones, and connective tissue, such as cartilage, ligaments, and tendons. About 22 million Americans visit chiropractors annually

Have you ever been adjusted by a chiropractor? Have you ever been in a chiropractic office? They are always extremely busy and have very wide open space! Chiropractors also like to keep their offices clean and busy with patients so they can get more business. During the day the chiropractors office is very busy. The chiropractors are always nice and respectful to their patients. Do you know anybody that works at a chiropractic office, or even is a chiropractor? Because many chiropractors have their own family, they usually give them free or discounted adjustments. This research paper will talk about the salary, schooling requirements, and the job outlook of the chiropractor. It will also explain what chiropractors do in their job. I hope that I will become a chiropractor someday after all my college years. Hopefully Alex will start a business and invite me and ask me to work for him! He has already talked about starting a business in the tropical islands somewhere. Chiropractors can make a lot of money, they just need to know how to adjust their patients the correct way.
Tests after tests including MRI’s, X-rays, and experimental procedures were performed to show I had five ruptured disks in the lower lumbar section of my back. Tedious Examination done by a group of doctors concluded I had a crippling disease of the spinal column called spinal stenosis. Spinal stenosis is a narrowing of the spinal canal that causes compression of the spinal cord. (Lohr,1) If this disease was ignored any longer, it would lead to many other problems affecting other areas of my back to help support this weakness. It was an extremely rare case for an athlete my age.
Chronic lower back pain is a major health disorder in the world today (Mendelson, Selwood, Kranz, Loh, Kidson, Scott, 1983). It can cause many physical, mental, and emotional problems on the victim (Mendelson, Selwood, Kranz, Loh, Kidson, Scott, 1983). Many people find their work so unbearably painful that they often have to stay home. Others experience depression, inactivity, and social isolation (Kaplan, Sallis, Patterson). Treatments range from the conventional methods such as medication and surgery to the alternative or unconventional methods such as acupuncture. However, only a small percentage of low back pain patients have the type of condition for which surgery can be used so acupuncture is becoming more popular (Lehmann, Russell, Spratt, 1983).
The spinal cord is a major channel in the body where motor and sensory information travels from the brain to the body. It has white matter that surrounds a central gray matter. The gray matter is where most of the neuronal cells are located. Injury to the spinal cord will affect the conduction of information across any part of the spinal cord where the damage is located (Maynard et al., 1997). This will often result in permanent disability of a certain muscle or region of the body (Meletis et al., 2008) and a loss of tissue where the damage is located (Peng et al., 2009). As of now, there is no treatment for spinal cord injury expect for steroids. All steroids can do is provide protect of the spinal cord from secondary injury for specific patients (Peng et al., 2009).
Spinal fusion stabilizes the spinal vertebra by fusing the disk spaces between the vertebra. The purpose of Lumbar fusion surgery is designed to help create solid bone between the adjoining vertebra. Classically Autograft bone has been used for fusion. This case study demonstrates the successful use of a synthetic bone graft called Signafuse. Signafuse is a moldable bone graft comprising a proprietary combination of patented bioactive glass particles and biphasic mineral granules suspended in a patented resorbable polymer carrier.
Chiropractors work and care for patients with health problems of the neuromusculoskeletal system also known as the nerves, bones, muscles, ligaments and tendons. Chiropractors use many ways to understand a patient's condition by asking questions and examining the patient closely, and determining whether body structures are out of place. In order to appropriately diagnose a patient, they often use x-rays to get a picture of the patient’s bone structure, laboratory tests, urinalysis, blood tests and stethoscopes.Chiropractors use multiple techniques to relieve pain and solve health concerns for patients including spinal adjustments and manipulation. Manipulating parts of the body is a very common way to relieve pain in the spinal column. The
In order to comprehend spinal curvature, we must first analyze the anatomy of the spine. The spinal column’s main purpose is to provide support for the body, and protect the spinal cord. The spine is composed of 33 bones which are arranged one on top of the other in order to give it its natural curved figure. The spine consists of 24 vertebrae that are moveable and 9 fused vertebrae. The spinal column also consists of five major regions- cervical, thoracic, lumbar, sacral and coccyx region.
During the course of their lives 70 – 80% of individuals will experience low back pain (LBP) (Deyo and Weinstein, 2001; Godwin and Goodwin, 2000; van Tulder, 2001); furthermore, over 80% of such patients report recurrent episodes (Waddel, 1998). It is estimated that 80 – 90% of patients will have recovered within 6 weeks, regardless of treatment (Bronfort et al, 1996; Jackson, 2001; van Tulder et al, 1997). However, 5 – 15% will develop chronic low back pain (CLBP; 12 weeks) (Bigos et al, 2001; Quittan, 2002; Tortensen et al, 1998): this is more difficult to treat (Cottingham and Maitland, 1997; Frost et al, 2000; Hidebrandt et al, 1997) and treatment has variable results (Carpenter and Nelson, 1999; Rainville et al, 1997) Current evidence suggests that exercise and intensive multidisciplinary treatment
Medical study is a combination of clinical experience and scientific research, which requires proof and evidence. These two components can help physiotherapists with diagnosis, provide treatments for patients and making clinical decision. However, what are the ways for individuals to testify the effectiveness of these methods and treatments? Is there scientific evidence proving the information is correct and up to date? How helpful and appropriate are these methods and treatments to the patients? Hence evidence-based practice is necessary. It has a strong impact in physiotherapy, to ensure researches are more focused and relevant to physiotherapists and as a guiding principle to practice and treatment of patients.
Through the use of social media and the news, the stories of a few of the dogs diagnosed with short spine syndrome have gone viral. This is an extremely rare condition that only 13 reported dogs in the world have. The news of this disorder first came up when one of the owners of a short spine syndrome dog told her story. The video quickly went viral and many others began to tell their stories too, proving that these dogs weren’t the only ones. Although the dogs look very strange, often described as looking like a hyena, or a pig mixed with a frog, they are almost completely normal. The disorder is caused from severe shortening of the vertebral column or spine due to the compression of vertebrae, which leaves the dog with a fused spine that curves in multiple areas, crooked ribs, and cramped organs. As can be seen from looking at the dogs, it seems like they have no neck. In fact, they
