The Isabella Steward Gardner Heist

The Challenges faces by authorities in locating and missing and stolen works of art and documents. There are lots of challenges that authorities have to face when it comes to missing and stolen pieces of art and other important documents. There have been many cases of missing and stolen works that have been unsolved, they are very hard cases that have taken years to solve or years just to find the slightest clue. There are cases like the The Isabella Steward Gardner Heist that have been working on for years but still haven't been solved.

The Isabella Steward Gardner Heist, in March 1990, there was a theft of a ,the Storm, a seascape with Jesus and the Apostles, and 12 other works, including a Vermeer and a Manet. This was big news then and

still is today. Authorities have worked are to find these missing pices it has been hard to do with the more time that passes by. They have had many leads like some paint chips they said showed that they "bore no relationship to the Storm" but later tested by Hubert von Sonnenburg, a Vermeer expert who was chairman of painting conservation at the Metropolitan Museum of Art. His test showed that the chips were an exact match for a pigment known as "red lake" that was commonly used by the 17th-century Dutch master and had been used in the stole Vermeer, even the cracking pattern on the chips was the same as some of the Vermeers other works. The authorities have a hard job they have to work with lots of leads that get them no where and sometimes they mess up and over look some of there work. The Isabella Steward Gardner Heist is still unsolved and they still work on the case today In hopes to find the missing art works.

There was another cases of missing art work it was about Recovering Artwork Owned by the U.S. Government in the 1940s. The Library of Congress send some of its national treasures to a guarded facility and some went missing. Most people didn’t even know the pieces were missing and lots of people don't even know what the treasure look like. Lots of time the pieces get pasted down in family and people end of selling them for a dollar in a yard sell and they son't know how important they really are. The Government has lots of people working to recover the missing works.
