Have you ever noticed the word strong always precedes independent girls? I think the very definition of the world implies strength, however, I also believe that the word strong is added to further add an element that really gets the message across. When it comes to a man, we usually say 'strong men ' or 'independent men ' but not both together. Independent girls are strong. In fact, they may be stronger than men because they have to fight against the stereotypes put in front of them in regards to Independence. Not sure you understand independent girls? Following are 20 things you need to know.
1. You Can 't Tell Them What To Do
Independent girls are not controlled by anyone. They know what they want and like, and they are not going to

This is where their strength really shines through. They won 't back down. They will stay confident around other people. And people who are not as independent as they are will find them a little scary, if not downright frightening. This is especially true of men who are not used to independent girls in their life.
9. They Have A High Sense Of Awareness
Because independent girls know who they are and what they want out of life, they are much more aware than other people. They can see truths and lies easier, both in other people and in themselves. For this reason, you can play games with them. They will see the games for what they are and stop you in your tracks. Furthermore, they are not victims, so you can 't bully them into anything. They know they are in control of their life, not you, so your attempts to guilt, ridicule, or force them to do what you want will be in vain.
10. They Put A Lot Of Pressure On

They Try To Think Positively
Because independent girls are not victims in life, they try to keep a positive mindset about their life. This doesn 't mean that they don 't have a lot of bad days, but it does mean that they see things from an optimistic view and they don 't let life beat them down. If they did, they would be far from independent, and they know it.
14. They Are Inspiring!
They feel like they can do anything, and that inspires other people around them. The more girls come out as independent, the more will see independence as a trend among girls. Believe me when I say there are tons of girls who crave to be true to themselves, but are being held back by limiting beliefs and fears. They need to see girls claiming their independence and living it so that they can claim theirs too.
15. They Know They Are Not Always Right
Independent girls do not know it all, nor do they claim to. They are on a journey in life, and they know that keeping their mind open will help them find more satisfaction and happiness in life. They also know what is right for them in this moment and that it may not be right for everyone, so they are not afraid to admit that other people are going to have a different opinion than
A contributing element to someone who is insecure mindset is thinking they don’t deserve someone, so they will do anything to please them. “I skip English everyday so you and me can ride to school together”; she gives up one of the biggest parts of her education to ride to school with Raheem. She holds back what she wants to say and do to please Raheem. Her willingness to do and say anything even if it goes against what she really thinks shows that she thinks that’s the only way he’ll stay with her.
The mission of Girls Inc, as stated on their website is, “to inspire all girls to be strong, smart and bold” (girlsinc.org, 2014). This mission statement can be seen on nearly every publication and public image, it has remained central to the organization, and it continues to be a driving force in the future of the organization. The vision of Girls Inc is “empowered girls and an equitable society,” (girlsinc.org). Girls Inc. has also developed a Girls Bill of Rights, which states that the girls have the right to: “1) be themselves and resist gender-stereotypes, 2) express themselves with originality and enthusiasm, 3) take risks, to strive freely, and to take pride in success, 4) accept and appreciate their bodies, 5) have confidence in themselves and to be safe in the world, and 6) prepare for interesting work and economic independence” (girlsinc.org).
Social Independence implies that the amount of help a person takes from other individuals is equivalent to or less than the amount of help he or she gains in return. Socially independent people recognize their contribution to society and do not allow other people to influence them in any way.
The idea that teenage boys should act a certain way towards females is usually instilled in them at a young age. According to Devor, “ Femininity must be expressed through modes of… action which communicate weakness, dependency, ineffectualness, availability for sexual or emotional service, and sensitivity to the needs of others” (Devor 6-7). In other words, men have to place women on a lower pedestal because of a woman’s so called “needs” (Devor 6). The “needs” that women express are feminine characteristics. The characteristics of females listed by Devor, does not show any sign of power or dominance. Since society believes gender is a patriarchy, females have no influence and need attention. This shows that men adjust their actions around women, since they believe that women need special attention. Furthermore, if a male possesses anything non-masculine,
Authors have addressed the topic of female independence in various literary styles, including novels, novellas, and poetry. In our society today, independence for women is one of the main topics of many songs. The concept of female independence has changed over the years; people have gone from frowning upon female independence to celebrating it. Both Catharine Maria Sedgewick and pop singer Kelly Clarkson address female behavior that now, in the 21st century, is typical for many women. In Sedgewick’s Hope Leslie, the title character portrays a young woman that defies her society’s repressive Puritanical standards; she portrays independence, courage, and outspokenness. Clarkson, in her 2003 hit, “Miss Independent” expresses characteristics common in many females of modern American society; they tend to show independence, self-sufficiency, courage, and determination. Hope, in a way, is an anachronism; she represents characteristics of a 21st century woman, though living in the 17th century.
Some girls put themselves in situations that put them at higher risk. These situations can be getting high and drunk at a party or at a guys house and he takes advantage of her, as well as wearing provocative clothing and having a reputation of having sex with others. Many of these boys believe that if you take a girl out to a nice restaurant and buy her stuff that they deserve to have sex. When girls deny sex it can be seen as disrespect to guys in these communities and can lead to isolation or violence. If it is not physical coercion many of the time these girls are lied to and set up to run trains on them.
Women have a deep power within them that encourages them shine on their own. Lorde says “The erotic is a resource within each of us that lies in a deeply female and spiritual plane, firmly rooted in the power of our unexpressed or unrecognized feeling” (Essay given to us in class). Encouraging women to become independent the erotic gives women a feeling like no other, although they
...d independence is another great dilemma that I think many women go through, especially those in professional arenas and takes many of them a long time to resolve the two. Growing up in a matriarchal family, my mother has always instilled through actions the need for a woman to be independent. She raised my sister and I alone and I have seen her struggle with this dilemma, when she remarried. As Kolbenschlag said, often dependency is equated to domination, which is not what most women want. I think that sometimes everyone wishes that they had someone that they could lean on, especially through trying times, but that doesn't mean they want that person to take over the situation. I also do not believe that for a woman to be considered "independent" she must give up her femininity and individuality. In my opinion a male-dominated society has no authority to dictate the characteristics of femininity to a woman.

Kate Chopin wrote stories of women in different states of independence from the men in their lives. She felt strongly about feminism and wanted women to be liberated from the dependence of men. By looking at Chopin’s stories we can see how the characters longed to be strong and independent women. In “The Story of an Hour”, when Mrs. Mallard hears of her husbands death she feels liberated and is described as:
Feminists are some of the most feared individuals in the world due to their power, intelligence and determination. Beyoncé is one of those individuals who has had the power during the long years of her career to introduce feminism in popular North American culture. A personal favorite, “Independent Women” by Destiny’s child possesses the most powerful feminist lyrics. This songs brings up a few questions about the role of independent women. Mostly importantly, why should women have to depend on men to get what they want? Why should women feel a need to wait for men? Why can’t women do what they want and believe in themselves to get where
To say that girls are different from boys is an understatement. Boys and girls are treated and raised differently while growing up in a patriarchal environment(Chesney-Lind & Sheldon. Chapter 6); the diverse ways in which they mature physically and emotionally, boy’s and girl’s involvement or path that leads to their potential delinquency are worlds apart. In addition, bombardment by role models and advertisements of society plays a large aspect in the differences between boys and girls. The majority of female role m...
Independence is something that comes with time. While we are young, we cling to our mothers for safety. We then start to crawl, yet when we are scared we cry until our mother picks us up.
There are many classical theories that could be potentially suitable for the analysis of these women, however one of the more prominent aspects would be the theory of free will and determinism. There is an endless debate on if one possesses free will or agency. To have complete agency is to be unaffected by outside factors, therefore have a high sense of free will (Gunn, 2015).
