What came first the chicken or the egg, and did the name for the orange come first or the name for the color? Perhaps the person who got to name everything just got lazy. How much wood could a Woodchuck chuck if a Woodchuck could chuck wood? How much juice could Orange Juice juice if Orange Juice could juice juice? Oranges are tangy cannonballs of goodness and that is sometimes all we see them as, when in reality they have an enormous explosion of health benefits that are often not recognized.
Everyone has heard the saying an apple a day keeps the doctor away, but have they ever heard the saying an orange, yes way, will help you live another day? Oranges, along with many other citrus fruit have D-limonene in them (Hezy). D-limonene has proven to help prevent skin cancer, breast cancer, lung cancer, mouth cancer, and colon cancer (Sun). This is most likely why the breakfast cereal companies will add in a glass of orange juice and say, “part of this complete breakfast”. “Because of its gastric acid neutralizing effect and its support of normal peristalsis, it has also been used for relief of heartburn as well” (Sun). D-limonene is also used clinically for dissolving cholesterol-containing gallstones (Sun).
Every good long-distance runner knows that the more red blood cells someone has, the more oxygen that can be transported to their muscles. “Oranges are rich with iron and Vitamin B6, essential in the production of red blood cells (Perfect Shape).” Other things like fiber, folate, and herperidin, also found in oranges, directly promote the proper functioning of the cardiovascular system (Hezy).
Oranges contain folic acid. “Folic acid helps in the proper development of the brain (Hezy).” However, this is not t...

Throughout this essay five points have been presented which highlighted what Erythropoietin is, how it works, what its benefits are compared to its potential side effects and its overall use in professional sport. Its function as a red blood cell producer and regulator are essential to ensure that our muscles, organs and brain have enough oxygen and nutrients flowing into it at all times. The invention of an artificial version of Erythropoietin has ensured a viable treatment for some conditions but has also opened up the possibly of unethical use in sports. The health risks incurred with use of r-HuEPO especially in the long term mean that its risks far outweigh any minor perceived benefit for athletes and as such should only be used for prescribed medical reasons.
According to Michael Pollan, the best way to eat healthily is to grow fresh vegetables. Pollan’s documentary effectively contributes evidence that eating mostly plants is naturally beneficial and prevents disease. In an experiment conducted by Steven O’Keefe, data reveals that colon cancer is more common in the United States than in Africa. The documentary simply states that the people of Africa eat mostly plants. Michael Pollan suggests that the lack of plant foods in the American diet causes a lack of fiber intake. After collecting this data, Steven O’Keefe swaps the diet of an African and American. This study eventually exposed that more vegetables in a diet can support colon health and prevent colon cancer. When stated so logically, Michael Pollan convinces the viewer that eating “mostly plants” is a necessary change for our health. He argues that historically, eating plants have been naturally healthy to various cultures and has potential to raise the well being of America.
In the poem, “Oranges”, by Gary Soto, the speaker experiences the challenges and awkwardness of teenage love. In the poem, a diffident and apprehensive 12-year-old Soto takes a girl out on a date to a drugstore on a cold December day. On this date, the teenage boy is challenged by his anxiety and poverty while trying to prove his love to his girl. The boy eventually overcomes both of these issues and is able to prove his love and develop a deeper relationship with the girl. Through the use of imagery, juxtaposition, and enjambment, the idea that people can conquer their fears and surpass their obstacles is displayed in the poem as well as the coming of age of the speaker.

The comparison of my two-day nutrition intake to recommendations demonstrates that I do not consistently consume a healthy diet. I do not follow the recommendations in the Food ...
Proper nutrition is important in maintaining a long and healthy life. Most Americans are rushed due to their busy work schedules, and do not take the time to plan their diets properly. Like me, most Americans are unaware of the importance of eating a healthy diet and consume too many foods without the proper nutrients. Throughout my life I have been fortunate. I have not had any major health problems, and have been able to consume most foods without having to worry about gaining weight. These last two years, however, I started to gain weight and have become concerned with my diet. Changing my poor eating habits has been difficult for me, however, having this assignment has taught me that it is not as difficult as I previously imagined.

...it. Such as apples, apples contain a high dosage of vitamin C and photochemical that can lower the risk of getting breast cancer. Apples also lower the risk of getting stomach, mouth, pharynx, and larynx cancer. It was studied that if the average human ate at least one apple a day the chance of getting cancer would be slimmed down by a third. Drinking coffee can also help prevent kidney, pancreatic, and endometrial cancer.
As the exercise intensifies, you need more energy and therefore more oxygen. Your blood carries oxygen from the lungs to your muscles. To keep up with these increased oxygen needs, you have to have more blood going into your muscles. As a result, your heart pumps faster, sending more oxygenated blood to your muscles per second. Aim-
"In a Green Night" by Derek Walcott is a poem about the conflicting feelings of life. "In a Green Night" focuses on the ever-present threat of death, and how our lives revolve around the inevitability of death. Through metaphors, paradoxes, and repetition, Walcott exemplifies the hopelessness and glory that occur when an artist realizes that, in his quest for creating the perfect piece of art, he is ultimately growing closer to death--just as an orange tree grows closer to death as it produces its magnificent fruit.
According to the U.S. Department of Agriculture, “despite the emphasis by nutritionists and other health professionals on the importance of fruit in a well-rounded healthy diet,” a survey taken during 1994-1996 revealed that “only 57.8 percent of people age 19 and younger ate fruits on a given day” (Fisher, 2004, p. 16).
The orange, one of the oldest cultivated fruits known to man, have been grown for more than 4,000 years. They probably originated in the part of Asia that contains India and China. Oranges are known for their delicious juice and vitamin C content. They also contain a source of potassium and folic acid.
