The Importance of a Healthy Father/Daughter Relationship

The short story, Everything Stuck to Him is a sweet tale of a young couple who is struggling in the beginning of building their family. The young man in the relationship is discovering the harsh fact of sacrificing hobbies or activities for the people he loves. Throughout the tale it is clarified that the family has very little in value towards their life, and this is another key importance to how they struggle as a young family. The man and wife live underneath a dentist office in a miniscule apartment, and do not even have a room for their baby daughter. The family is new to being parents, and when the precious baby is crying all night long the mother is extremely worried about the health of their child. In this part of the story it becomes clear to the reader that the man is going to have to sacrifice the hunting trip that he had been looking forward too. Carter plays an interesting view of this story, by starting and ending with a conversation of the little girl, who is now older, having a conversation with the father about the story that is portrayed. The introduction and conclusion of this text, Everything Stuck to Him, have a lighthearted touch to the text; it shows how the father and daughter relationship is a strong one, how the family is suggested a happy life, and displays how the father/daughter relationship has become a sturdy one by the jumping of time frames throughout the short story.
The daughter in Carver’s text, Everything Stuck to Him is older in the beginning of the text, and obviously has a strong friendship with her father because of the actions they portray throughout the story. ...he reassurance of the narrator, who kept repeating how much they loved each other, had kept the interest of the reader’s conciseness alive. In the end of the story it had a lighthearted moment that was important to the thought of the reader. They had stopped their fighting, the boy had returned to be with the love of his life, and they had shared a moment of laughter. Nothing could have worked out so perfectly the way their fight did, it gave the reader a sense of hope about real love. Also the final frame of the daughter and man reminiscing over the memory of the woman, who had obviously passed away, was a touching moment in the mind of the audience. It displayed the true love the young man and young woman had shared, and how that had blossomed into a love that had lasted for a lifetime, and still affected the man as he was old and alone after his wife had passed.
